Mezzaluna - Half Moon Bay Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit. The restaurant has been in this location for 20+years and that time is reflected in a space that is a little bit tired. That said the food is absolutely terrific! Our calamari appetizer had great flavor & crunch in the batter and the calamari was fresh & tasty. Both of our entree's were fantastic in terms of taste, temperature & seasoning. The after meal coffee was appropriately strong and flavorful. All in all, a superb meal and we will certainly come back.
We had always heard that Mezzaluna was great. And it’s difficult to meet expectations when we had heard so much ... but the staff at Mezzaluna did not disappoint us. The food was delicious. So many great choices and so something yummy to look forward to next time.
Some of the best Italian food I've had in California. I'm Italian and make my own pasta. This bolognese was very good. The pasta was also fresh and good. However, the pasta was a little bit overcooked to my taste. It was still edible and I've accidentally made my own this mushy. My mother always said it was easier to digest when overcooked and I think it is. It was delicious. I would definitely go again and might use it as an excuse to go for a drive along Hwy 1.
Went here for dinner on vacation. Nice walk from our inn along the water. Food was excellent - pasta with eggplant and smoked mozzarella was nicely smoky plus a bit spicy. Servers were friendly and attentive. Good mix of customers, from romantic couples to those enjoying a night out to families. Chilly night so enjoyed being seated by the fireplace, where we also were able to watch the NCAA football semifinal game.
Had New Years Day dinner, Open Table showing a special menu, but restaurant still served normal dinner menu, which was a plus, but was not necessary. Risotto was cooked al dente, calamari steak was tender, not a big fan of the veal scaloppini, but it was tender (needed more sauce and capers), but the bomb was the fettuccini alfredo (no added meat), it was light and airy, buttery and creamy...pasta was homemade and it was cooked perfectly, you could taste the egg! Can't wait to go back!
A good italian restaurant. Tables set a bit too close together however and at peak times on weekends the resulting noise level can be a little much for a romantic evening out. Service is ussually good however as with many restaurants, the training seems minimal. A skilled wait staff should know how to greet the guest gracefully, to present drink options and special dishes, and most importantly, to read the customer’s cues during the initial interaction. Skill levels vary here and last night the young man supporting the waitress seemed to have more of a feel for interacting with the patron. He was efficient, attentive and pleasant. These are good people trying to do the job but in need of a bit more training. Overall we like MezzaLuna.
Made a reservation here at a request for a friend's birthday. We were made to wait 15 minutes for our reserved table while other parties who arrived after us were seated, and I was told I should have specified that we did not want a "bar" table. Although other party members enjoyed their appetizers and lasagna, both of my selections (prosciutto and parmesan plate, ceasar salad) were sparse and careless and of low quality - the lettuce was clearly old and had been chopped much earlier. Also, at 7:00 on a Friday evening, the place had several parties with children.
We tried Mezzanine Luna on the recommendation of our hotel. While it was quite crowded the service was excellent and we did not have to wait an excessive amount of time for our food. I would highly recommend reservations.
The food was delicious. We had Calamari Fritti, Penne Calabrese, and Linguine Toto. All of the dishes were well prepared and thoroughly enjoyable. I am super picky about my red sauce and was perfection.
A great value as well. The prices are very reasonable.
We went on the recommendation of a friend. We had no trouble getting a reservation for 8, but it was a Tuesday night.
The food was very tasty with good portions. The children’s menu was sparse so our older child ordered from the regular menu. I gave the food 4 stars because they had no pizza!
I love this restaurant, it is my favorite place to eat lunch or dinner in Half Moon Bay. I live in San Jose and the drive is always worth it. I usually eat here at least 3-4 times a year. The food is always fresh and the staff has always been friendly. I have been going to Mezza Luna for over 10 years and I have always had a good time. I think I've had everything on their menu, their deserts are really good. My favorite desert is the Spumoni ice cream.
We usually go for the Tuesday specials and this visit was that occasion with friends who hadn't been there before. The food was excellent as usual. Service was great as usual. Aside from the restaurant being so noisy to the point that I couldn't hear my dinner companion who was second seat over. A very big crowd on a Tuesday night.
MezzaLuna never disappoints! It's fantastic food, the vibe is so much fun and the service is totally authentic Italian (which means a little slow sometimes). We have tried everything on the menu and love the specials that they always have. Last Saturday we had the mushroom risotto, a special, and it was insanely delicious! They are friendly and the food is consistently great, I can't recommend this place highly enough.
Mezzaluna is the best restaurant on the Coast! We celebrated my birthday with a family dinner at our favorite restaurant. Our appetizers, calamari and antipasto della casa, were each great with unique flavors. This time, I tried the special mahi-mahi which was deliciously spiced and cooked to perfection. Another favorite that was ordered was the clam linguine which was fabulous! The other dishes, veal and salmon ravioli, were enjoyed as well. We are always happy to celebrate at Mezzaluna! The entire waitstaff was attentive and joined in the celebration with song and desserts! Thank you Mezzaluna!
The staff was very friendly and attentive. We asked for a different table than being seated against the wall and they obliged right away. We shared the meatballs on the appetizer and absoluetly loved them and the sauce!! Great with grated cheese sprinkled on top. We will return when we are there again!
