Mezzaluna - Half Moon Bay Ratings and Reviews
Husband and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. Great food and service! Husband had crab ciopino that was an extravaganza! I had one of the specials which was a grilled halibut w/greens and mashed potatoes. Both dinners were excellent!! Food is reasonably priced... dinners are under $30.
Service was good until the very end. The waiter apparently forgot that we ordered the lava cake when we first sat down, as we knew it took 20 - 30 minutes. Hence, we waited a full hour after we finished our meal before we were served dessert. Also, despite it being a special occasion (18th birthday) with birthday decorations all over the table, no candle or acknowledgement of the special occasion. That was a bummer. Food was good as always.
Food was like the olive garden of Italian. Lasagna seemed microwaved. All I ask for on lasagna is some crispy cheese on top, nope not this one. Seafood zuppa had no flavor. We were in half moon bay for the weekend celebrating my boyfriend's birthday, however even with a birthday note in the reservation, no recognition, not even a candle in the dessert or a "happy birthday " from the host. Server was absent and had no knowledge of wine what so ever, which I can look past if someone else in the place has some sort of knowledge on their somewhat extensive wine list. But not this place, I was better off googling the wines. What a waste of $200
Another Great Meal was enjoyed by all of our group ... Guillermo is a fine knowledgeable waitperson .. as usual the Quality of Food , & Quality of Service was Par Excel-lance...
The Best Italian Food within the Half Moon Bay Area
& all of San Mateo County for that matter. Thanks to Roberto & Giovanni
I've been dining at Mezza Luna for years. I love the food, and the owners personally greet the customers. Attentive staff. It's a good spot for locals, but tourists are welcome. Nice (full) bar with fireplace and a large screen TV. Separate dining room for more formal dining. Casual dress is ok.

TOO BAD. MEZZA LUNA or OPEN TABLE SHOULD TELL or WARN VALUED CUSTOMERS
I have been to Mezza Luna twice and wanted to celebrate my daughter's 24th birthday in a setting by the sea. Growing up in San Francisco there are several favorites over the years that my parents frequented, but my daughter studied abroad in Rome, Italy and so I wanted her to enjoy an authentic Italian restaurant. The weather was warm in Half Moon Bay and the evening was perfect. The food, the service and the ambiance were outstanding!
The hostess upon our arrival, completely ignored my party! Service was poor we ordered salads and meal, all came to our table at the same time after waiting forever!
Celebrating a birthday for a young lady from Nantucket! Poor service all around, never will return
The first part of dinner was really good. Service was good. Food tasted really good and arrived hot. Towards the end of dinner I was ignored. When I put my hand over my water glass indicating I didn't want anymore water to server poured water over my fingers.
We love Mezza Luna and always recommend it. Everything was excellent with the exception of the hostess who didn’t communicate with the server that it was a very special occasion, our 39th wedding anniversary. I made note of the special occasion when making the reservation on Open Table. The server felt bad when I told him.
We've been going to Mezzaluna for years, but recently, the food has becoming spectacularly special--experimental, novel, fresh, and just delightful. I had the prawns with "tuna hearts" (battarga), which seemed to be freshly homemade - this is pretty much unheard of, even in Sicily, where I came to love battarga). The pasta was terrific, al dente. While I have noticed an upward trajectory in most dishes, yesterday's (10/7/2017) offerings were off-the-chart.
Roberto & Giovanni are most gracious hosts , Serving the Best Italian Calabria Style Food this side of Italy , Guillermo is a great waiter..... Wine is always good & reasonably priced ............. We try to go as often as we can ... Takes us about 35 to 45 minutes to drive up to Princeton from our home in Purisima Canyon , about 7 miles south of Half Moon Bay & Hwy 92 . But it's well worth the drive for a GREAT ITALIAN MEAL .... Ron Fahy ( Been known to sing a song or two )
Mezza Luna is a great Italian restaurant that can be relied upon for friendly service, good food, and lively ambience. It isn't too loud to talk but it's always hopping. The bar area is cozy with a big fireplace and sports on the TV. The dining room is quieter and more formal but still has an underlying bustle. Our dinners were both excellent and were preceded by a lovely Brussels sprouts appetizer, just enough for two. Entrees were halibut served over more Brussels sprouts with capers and potatoes, and Dover sole with a lemon sauce. We dine at Mezza Luna a few times a year and are never disappointed.
