Had a great experience with lunch in my group of five.
Delicious guacamole, fresh ingredients, and awesome margaritas!
Neighborhood gem is a box to check when reviewing restaurants and Mezcalina most certainly lives up to that description. It brings not only the cuisine but the energy of Mexico to a bland corner of the city. The art is spectacular.
We love this tucked away Mexican restaurant with a convivial feel. Truly A hidden gem , It is quite sophisticated with incredible food and understated service . No other restaurant in the city comes close to their Asada or ribeye tacos ( which have a horseradish Cole slaw as a garnish). The guacamole is so good , if I lived in the neighborhood, I’d never make it again, it’s that good. The rice and beans were superb, good quality and perfectly seasoned.
This was a fun restaurant. The atmosphere was great. It is a small restaurant and very loud. We went on Cinco de Mayo so it was pretty crowded. The food was fabulous and not expensive ($18 per meal) I would definitely recommend this restaurant :)
This place was really artsy and cute. The host was accommodating after I informed him I had an open table reservation, but that he did not check us in. I had an email from open table about a missed reservation, and had to explain we were in fact there. The food was all really great for the most part. One person in our party ordered the corn appetizer and was disappointed it was canned corn vs. fresh corn and also their pork taco was more fatty meat and gristle than meat. However, the remaining parties in our group were over the moon with our food.
Creative Mexican fare, great atmosphere amongst the artwork. Will be back
This place is AMAZING!! It was super close to us and the food is fantastic.
The waiter made a suggestion for me and I loved it!
Will definitely be back!
Very tasty food and great cocktails!
Great food and service.
Friendly staff and lovely interior. Just steps from our hotel (Radisson Blu Aqua) and a relaxing way to start the long weekend. Our kids enjoyed it too.
Excellent upscale Mexican food. Mezcalina is small so it can tend to be noisy and a bit hectic. Main problem the restaurant has is trying to take care of customers with one bartender and one waiter. It may take time to have your order taken, get your bill, or attract attention for service, but the food came out hot and was delicious.
The food was exceptional though the chips were a bit stale. The service needs improvement and the noise level in the restaurant is disturbing the dining experience. The margaritas are good.
This place has fast become a favorite! The cocktails and food are exceptional, and the decor and ambiance contribute to a great dining experience!
The food was great! Service was good too. Definitely coming back.
Had a great time. Staff very interactive. Food was stellar.
Horrible! This is NOT a place to bring a family. We made reservations, but came a bit early as they told us there would be 5-10 minutes...however, that was NOT the case. We waited 40 minutes with a toddler...only to be put a seat that was empty the entire time that we were there because no one else wanted to sit there (by the door and NO room). We then waited another 10 minutes for someone to bring us water. By this point, our patience was done and we could NOT wait another 2 hours to get our food..we ended up leaving with no food and a very hungry family at 745pm...I’d recommend the staff to be more empathic towards families, hire more staff, and to be considerate when working with those that are having to wait.
Excellent choice of menu selections and service was exceptional.
This is a great place to unwind on a Friday, or any other day! We enjoyed enchiladas, tacos and the outstanding shrimp empanadas. Drinks (Malbec, margarita with Mezcal) were good too.
Just family and friends we had a really good time thank you Mezcalina for everything
Although it was only 3 servers working, they managed to make it work. They would be bartenders, servers and hostess. They did great on helping each other out. One that out-stood for his amazing attentiveness is named Martin (of course I had to ask his name and thank him for his great service) cute small hidden restaurant.
Excellent meal and service. We will be back. Definitely needs to lower the lighting. Too bright.
The food is always great! The service was great, too. There were a few large parties and I am not sure they were prepared for it...everyone hustled to make sure the guests were happy and all of the staff had smiles on their faces!
We were visiting for the weekend from Ottawa . We found this place online . The food was very good. The service was excellent. Very friendly staff. If you go
you must try the homemade salsa.
Food was excellent and at a good price point. Ambiance very unique and nice. My only recommendation is they need to space the delivery of the food better but maybe this was due to us being there on Valentine Day.
There is one guy who takes care of the entire place- host, bartender, server. Maybe he even cooks? Not possible to have a good dining experience with so little support. It’s happened twice. Not going back.
The evening started off wrong when the host sat us at the worst table in the restaurant, a tiny 2 top, wedged in between the kitchen and the bar, when half of the restaurant was empty. After we said "no way", the seater said we can sit anywhere we want. Things improved with the delicious margaritas, and chips and salsa. I had the skirt steak and enchilada, which tasted good, not super memorable. My husband had the chicken pistachio mole. Also tasty, although the color reminded him of pea soup. We will try again in the summer. It was a sub zero degree day. The restaurant filled up quickly, good ambience, nice art work.
Nice restaurant! Food was good, but I have had better fajitas. Drinks and guacamole was great! Service was amazing! So timely and hospitable.
red snapper whole fish presentation - looks as good as it tastes
great artwork throughout
friendly staff, knowledgable
quiet for conversations
great great great
It was just meh. Choice it because it was near the Harry’s Thester. There are much better Mexican spots in Chicago.
First time at Mezcalina. I am not into Mexican food honestly but this place was so good. I got chicken enchiladas, the chicken was so tender the salsa was very tasty. My friend got chicken mole tacos, the sauce was good. But what we loved was the cocktails tasty well rounded drinks. The salsa for the chips was great btw they do not offer chips and salsa free!!! We going back for dinner because we want to try the nachos and the flautas. Music was too loud for us but we saw people enjoying it, not us.
All good. Margaretas super
The food and service were good, but the music was so old that my wife and I couldn't talk to each other. Too bad, because this could have an enjoyable meal.
Absolutely loved this place! The food was fresh and delicious! Wonderful margaritas! The atmosphere is really nice with interesting decor. Definitely recommend and will for sure go back!
Best margarita in town, hands down.
Our service and food and drinks were outstanding. The server was very helpful and the decor is the best!
I love this place great Food and drinks. Staff was amazing friendly and very helpful. You will not be disappointed when you come here
Located below ground level in an open courtyard area, Mezcalina is a bit difficult to find if you have been there before and it requires going down and up a lot of stairs to reach the main street level in the area. The restaurant is attractively decorated with some very nice LARGE art pieces. the bar is also attractive. The staff is friendly and helpful with the menu and suggestions. The margaritas we both ordered were well prepared and tasted good - but too much ice filled the glass and not enough drink. If more easily accessible, I would probably try it again, but considering the "hike," we'll likely pass.
