Our dinners were delicious. We eat here every time we come to Chicago and would recommend this restaurant to our friends.
I ordered the beans and rice but after a few bites, crunched down on a BB or ball bearing! Could have cracked a tooth. The waiter took a more expensive item off the bill, but I would not go back!
We wanted to try place for restaurant week since , it’s in my neighborhood, it was the last day , they said it stop last week , I had the menu with the dates on my phone . I was very disappointed
Great food-Reataurant week dinner was nice selection of food.
Only problem -that they handled as well as they could- they seemed to be short staffed and service although adequate wasn’t great. Had to ask for water both times we needed more water. 2 or 3 waiters ( including host) and 1 busboy really booking it throughout the night. Food was hot and the kitchen was getting food out quickly but when we arrived we waited five minutes for someone to greet us (and there were two couples ahead of us who had already been waiting five minutes-one pair left without waiting.
I do recommend Reataurant-food really good but they need to increase their serving/host staff.
Fresh, Mexican, Great Guacamole, liked the chocolate cake
Looked for dining not far from Harris Theater, and what a gem we found. Very warm & cozy atmosphere. Not the usual salsas, very different & tasty. Guac was very fresh & yummy. Entrees were also very good. We enjoyed the flavorful pumpkin seed mole sauce served with the excellent seasoned shrimp dish. We will definitely recommend to others and be back to try more. Thank you for exciting our palettes with tastiness and artsy atmosphere.
Really wonderful waitstaff! Salsa was great and the ambience was perfect for a casual dinner. The cocktails were refreshing and affordable (would recommend the watermelon one)
This is my favorite Mexican dining spot...even with Rick Bayless’ places close by.
Friendly wait staff who made some great recommendations. Everything we tried (guacamoles, ceviches, tacos) were very good. I really liked margaritas as well. My favorite may have been the cochinita pibil taco. A little challenging to find but we'll be going back.
One of the best restaurants I have been at in a long time. It is a small quaint restaurant with a lot of charm. The food was great, drinks was wonderful and service magnificent. Will definitely recommend and go again.
I believe they were short staffed the day we went but the food was ok, not great and the service was pretty slow.
The food was excellent and the service from the people was great
Beautiful restaurant w great food & great service.
One of the best true upscale Mexican restaurants in Chicago. Great care taken in the food and drink preparation and presentation. Have small plates and full course meals. The value is extraordinary. The deep fried red snapper FILETE DE HUACHINANGO is one of a kind. My wifes shrimp CAMARONES YUCATECOS was remarkable, and so much more. One of the best Meszcale colllections in Chicago. Prepare to be deligted. Walking distance to Harris Theatre tucked in the New East Side neighborhood.
This is our staple spot! We go all the time and the staff has our orders memorized. It always feels welcoming, warm, happy, and fun. It’s even great for families. They’re always accommodating when our kids want adjustments made on their order. The food is always delicious and the margaritas are top notch. This is a must try dining experience!
A nice neighbor hood restaurant
Outstanding and Authentic!
Wish I had a little more shrimp for fajitas but got plenty of satisfaction
It was exceptional the food awesome and the ambiance was the best.
The food and decor were great. It is an out of the way place and a true hidden treasure. The Margaritas were top notch and the food was amazing. Fresh and excellent flavor! It will be a go-to place when I visit Chicago again.
The good took longer than usual but overall it's always good. Thank you.
Weekend getaway to Chicago (from Minneapolis)
Great Food. Unfortunately we were invaded by fruit flies most of the evening.
We loved the entire experience. The food, drinks, service and ambience were all wonderful. The art work is very nice! Will definitely be back!!!
A little slow but they were shorted staffed. Otherwise everything was great.
Always wonderful dining experience.
Very good food. Roberto is excellent, always so pleasant and helpful
Really a hidden gem! Great drinks and guacamole and tacos were filling and delicious. Great for late night eats!
In the past when you would check in on Facebook management would come over and thank you for coming. Not any more. Service was a little slow. Lighting is to write. Food is ok and margarites are good.
Worst service I've had in a restaurant in a long time. Would NOT go back.
This is our go-to restaurant because the service is good, the food is well prepared and it is close to our home. We had chicken fajitas with chips/salsa - which is customary for us.
It was a beautiful space great food and the service was warm. It was a shame they were playing aweful radio music, the pussycat dolls. It took away from the very intentional classy space itself that had so much potential. We ended up getting the food to go and eating in the lovely park across the way because the music was so distracting. Especially for lunch. Such a shame. So much potential.
What a beautiful and interesting decor. We loved the dining room but dispised the banquette that had me seating with my chin level with the table. Our reservation was for Sunday evening at 7:15. Right away our server told us she couldn't reseat us because they were closing soon. When we said "thank you, we didn't realize you were closing. We'll just find some other restaurant" she agreed to move us. The table we moved to was not level so we asked if we could move to the table next to ours. We were told no, that the restaurant was getting ready to close and that would be ...inconvenient? The food was so-so : Not as bad as the service but not nearly as good as the decor. The Elote (Mexican Street Corn) was not fresh, not grilled and swimming in cheap mayo and that's my measure of a good Mexican Restaurant.
Nothing special in a very competitive niche. Odd location.
Visiting Chicago with my husband. Made reservations. But had to wait when we got there. Ordered drinks at the bar- seemed to forget us. Staff was running around/bustling/doing all the jobs.
Our margaritas were fantastic. The guacamole with pineapple is absolutely delicious! Our waiter was fun and enjoyable! At the end they took our drinks off the bill for us having to wait!! 👍🏼
A “hidden gem” for sure. Worth the craziness!
Excellent food! Service was courteous and friendly but slow. Almost seemed like they were short staffed but our waiter said no, they were just busy all at once. ??? It was a Saturday night around 5:30-7:00. Shouldn’t they expect to be busy?
Excellent! We had a great meal, in a great atmosphere (loved the art!). Kudos to the chef for the excellent food and presentation. Only quibble was the speed of drink refill service. But that won't keep us from returning as soon as possible!!! So glad we found this place. Mezcalina is likely to turn into an established part of our pre-symphony routine!
Food and drinks great!!!
Service extremely slow
Always a great experience! Sat outside, the service was beyond outstanding!!
Surprisingly good for a restaurant hidden away on the ground floor of a shopping/office bldg.
