We all enjoyed the experience, the staff was friendly and considerate, food and drinks were very good
Great food and service! They had outdoor seating. The staff is friendly too.
Great food, sleek set-up amid COVID, quality cocktails and Tequila. Waiter was attentive but not pushy. Gracias!
The food is fabulous. Will definitely go back. Looking forward to visit again.
Todo muy bien
Great food great service if you haven’t tried it’s a must.
Drinks excellent, food bland and overcooked meat.
I was able to make a reservation two days in a row and both times the service was outstanding. I had the Chile relleno once and flautas the other time and both were outstanding! Sangria was a perfect accompaniment. Great restaurant next to the Cathedral.
Excellent food, mediocre ambiance
Great moles, beautiful platings, knowledgeable service. Definitely try the chapulines.
Mole sauce was delicious with my enchiladas but the salad was a bit bland. Ambiance is beautiful but they sat us on the patio space on a cold evening with heaters that did very little. We should not need to bundle up for dinner. Overall its good for summer time but I have had much better Mexican food.
Good location from San Jose Center for Performing Arts. The food was very good and our margaritas were yummy! We made a reservation and were seated right away. It took some time for our server to come over. We let him know we had a performance to attend he said he would be back to take our order. After a long wait, we had to flag him down to take our order and then again to get the bill. I would try this place again and hope to not get that same server.
Maybe it’s because it’s on Valentine’s Day but the food seems preparedly rushed . Chicken Mole was just sauce over boiled chicken it seems , the enchilada was tortilla with sauce on top although the beef steak was fine .
For Valentine’s Day Mezcal had a good special menu. There was extra staff so things moved quickly. Dinner was great as always. We had the Mexican chocolate cake which was delicious. Wished it was served warmed. Each woman was given a rose and chocolates for the table. A very sweet gesture to make the evening special. Mil gracias.
We came all the way from Watsonville to dine here. It was a great experience! We were here last year and menu was much larger. This time it’s just 1 sheet. That’s my only disappointment. Not enough choices. Disappointed that the tamale wasn’t available this time. Tried the chicken enchiladas which were delicious. Other then that everything was great. Took my parents along and they enjoyed it as well.
We had a reservation for 1:30pm. I didn’t know the restaurant was closing at 2:30pm. We were rushed through ordering and given attitude. The food came out like in 5 min and wasn’t very warm. It was a chicken mole. And then the guy was like so you want desert before the kitchen closes. This is when I realized that’s why he was treating us so poorly. It was a business lunch, the other person wanted flan. It was not good. No flavor. Then the bill came. I would have felt good about a $90/$100 lunch meal for two, had it been delicious. But the food was awful and the service was terrible. Will never go back! Perhaps if you schedule your meal at the early end of lunch it might be better. But one hour was apparently not enough to make it fresh and treat you nicely in the process.
We had a group of 12 teachers. I made reservations 5 days in advance. The restaurant called me 24 hours before to confirm. Our table was ready a few minutes after we arrived. Our waiter came right up to welcome us and take our appetizer order - guacamole table side of course! It's the best ever. He came back to take our drink orders. So many to choose from but many of us had the Sangria. We were not disappointed. Drinks came out quickly and our dinner orders were taken. We were having so much fun that when dinner came we were ready. The wait was perfect. Our food was fabulous. Another amazing night at Mezcal! Gracias!
Input from wife: Enjoyed the good food, the good margaritas and the giant Frida!
Mole sauces as were very good. Saturday night and service was slow. 25 minutes to get our drink order.
Poor experience, dry pork, poor service. Unimpressed.
Very bland food for Mexican cuisine. Disappointed with the table side guacamole, the salsa, the chicken soup. Would not recommend.
Absolutely amazing food and wonderful service. It was our first time here and we loved it! Will definitely return soon.
The food was good (portion size was OK), the drinks (we had mostly margaritas) were great, and the servers were really nice and attentive. The place is cute. Unfortunately, the hostess was unfriendly, almost hostile. Everyone in our group of 8+ people mentioned at some point how unwelcome she made them feel. One person was sent away from the restaurant when asking for our group ("no! They are not here!"). One person was denied to get change so we could pay the bill because they refuse to give you more than one check per group (who in the world does this these days? but they were fine with adding tip automatically). When we asked if they could push tables together to accommodate a few more people than we initially made the reservation for, we only got blank stares and eye rolls from her. Super unprofessional. People, these things happen. Don't treat your patrons like they are a nuisance.
It was great service....That place is really great. I love the authentic feel of both the food and service. I had Enchiladas suizas. Very good. Would order that again next time =)
It was a cold night which made the whole restaurant - main room and patio - very cold inside. Then the front and patio doors kept opening bringing in a draft. It was cold enough that I had my coat on and needed a blanket. Frankly this overshadowed the whole experience.
Food and drinks were very tasty and just right portions. Sadly the sauce over my meal was quite cold (like everything else).
The waiter knew we needed to be in/out in an hour so he was great on attending to us quickly. Appreciated.
If I find a nicer/warmer weather day, I will probably give it another try - think it will be worth it.
Love the Oaxacan Decor theme.
The service was authentic and good.
The menu was outstanding, different kind of Mexican food, based on traditional Oaxacan cusine
Not authentic oaxacan food
I love Mezcal! Fantastic food, great decor, and love the music :-) one of my favorite places to eat with friends, family and Business associates.
Always, excellent service and amazing food! We are regulars now because we like it so much. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
I think this may be a good drinks place. We arrived early for a reservation. We wanted a table in a corner so we waited 20 minutes for them to clear an empty table. Tableside guacamole was fun. Drinks were good. Appetizer mixed plate was a cold plate of tortilla like things. Ceviche was ok. Chicken mole sauce was great but the chicken was really really dry. A bowl of tortilla soup is almost a serving for 4. After these dishes I couldn't bring myself to order more. Staff wss friendly enough and barely had time to take our order.
The service and atmosphere was awesome and that is why I choose Mezcal however the quality of the food was poor. The chaplolines were very dry and tasted stale.
I made a reservation for my birthday for a party of 16. The restaurant called me to change the reservation time, which would have been okay except that I had already sent out invitations for a certain time. However, the restaurant was very accommodating and service was GREAT. It was almost empty when me and my party arrived but it was very loud and busy when we left. The food was not that good, but the drinks were fantastic! All in all, I would come back for the ambiance. Would love to try this place in the summer when they open up their big semi-outdoor room!
This is one of my favorite places to go when I am in San Jose. Great food, fantastic margaritas and really lovely staff.
Great place to have a business meal
Francisco's service was incredible! The mezcalitas (marguerites with mezcal instead of tequila) were out of this world. Order the table side prepared guacamole, it was so good we ordered it again. All of our dishes at our table of six were hits and all the moles were delicious. I can't wait to return the next time I am in downtown San Jose. Thank you!
Off-putting staff, extremely mediocre food.
Best Margarita in town, it is not on the menu but order the Cadillac Margarita and of course the table side guacamole.
I got there at 4pm when the restaurant was opening and getting ready for a busy Saturday evening. My partner and I were sat promptly but it took 20min for them to take our order, and 50 minutes after we were sat, our food had not yet arrived at our table. I don’t know why it took so long since the restaurant was not full yet. I ordered their salmon, which was overcooked and dry. The rice and vegetables were okay, but the palate can tell when a restaurant uses cheap cooking oils. My partner was contempt with the Tlayuda. For me, the quality of the cooking was not worth the wait nor the price. So, this was my first and last time at this restaurant.
