Mexican Festival Restaurant
Great casual Mexican with amazing service. Prices are too high for the overall package but a good meal nonetheless.
I really enjoyed Mexican festival the food was really great and the service was great as well
Food was very par. Service was good. Would be a great place for Happy Hour.
I chose to ignore the poor reviews on this site, but I shouldn’t have. We visited for Mother’s Day, and were served an extremely limited, egregiously expensive specialty menu of terrible food. It was so disappointing and I will never return. Nothing on the restaurant website or on OpenTable indicated that the only thing available on Mother’s Day would be a handful of overpriced, unappealing entrees. The only reason I ordered anything at all was because the waitress was so nice. Next time I’ll pay more attention to reviews!
The quality of the food was disappointing, the menu selection was very limited, and the prices were inappropriately high as well as unmarked on the menu. Service was completely inattentive and the fact that it was Cinco de Mayo is not an excuse as we saw other tables were well attended to.
To give one star is a lot. Came here because there were reservations available for brunch on Saturday May 5 (yes I know, cinco de mayo) we hoped that there would be a better experience since we were a small group and the restaurant was mostly empty but we were wrong. The restaurant was not running their bottomless brunch special which was quite disappointing but on top of that they were not nice or flexible about it. We were trying to be pleasant and be calm and so we ordered a pitcher of margaritas, which we had to pour ourselves, and we are not convinced even had tequila in it. Next we ordered guacamole which was fine (the only good point. We had 3 different waiters come to our table to maybe take our order and finally someone did and we weren't confident that she was correct. When out food arrives, the fajitas had 2 pieces of hair which we sent back right away, another person in our party ordered chicken enchiladas and her chicken was pink and still raw. When we complained we were made to feel as if we were mistaken about these things, there was as excuse for the chicken not being cooked and when the fajitas were brought back the waiter made a comment that the plate was clean. We ordered a round of beers but already had decided we didn't want to leave a tip because of the attitude. When the bill arrived we were surprised to see that not only had we not been comped (common restaurant courtesy to have something taken off the bill when there are multiple issues) BUT they added almost $40 for gratuity for a small group, usually I see that with groups of 6 or more. We only paid the bill and left and you can be sure we will never go back to this place again, i would advise that no one else go there!
Excellent food! Best Sangria, nachos, and shrimp and rice dinner I ever had! It’s not a pretty place, but food is great!
Food is very good but the service is horrible. They were not organized at all. they couldn’t get our orders together in a timely manner, main course came before the apps except for my sons plate which came last. Hard to tell who was doing what there and everyone was too busy to serve. I needed a straw so I got up and got one from the bar. Music was way too loud. Frustrating because the food and drinks are really good. It’s a management issue.
essen gut und preislich angemessen , Cocktails im Bereich von 8-10$
With a reservation, we waited 30 minutes to place our orders and about an hour total to get our food. Any time we placed an additional order, the waiter would take 20 mins to come with it or not show up at all.
Good food, festive ambiance. Had a very good chicken in mole sauce, good service, everyone is very nice. Drinks took a little while to arrive. Frozen margaritas in tall blue-rimmed glasses are festive. I have tasted better (I don't think the lime juice compares with fresh squeezed). Mariachi band played (Besa Me), and while they were on break, a pianist and an absolutely wonderful female operasinger treated us to a few songs (Porgy and Bess?).
Great last night before vacation dinner! Strong drinks and delicious food!
Good place, live music 🎶, we spent nice evening there, the food is not the best Mexican food,
Horrible!!! Made reservations and when we got there they said it would be 45 mins-1 hr before we got seated! Then what's the purpose of having reservations?!?! Not good!
The sangrias were amazing and strong. I would recommend the lamb, the steak and the fajitas which were all delicious. But definitely get the sangrias fro brunch they're not listed on the menu but are available.
The restaurant was not terribly busy and the kitchen was backed up. Normally, I'm pretty patient but the management at the restaurant pretended that nothing was wrong. Food finally came, it was tasty but by that point we weren't hungry. When the check came, it was the full bill, not even the drinks taken off. Done with this local place for a while.
Went on a Sunday evening for dinner with 3 people. Service was unorganized, and incredibly slow. Took nearly and hour to get an order of nachos and roast pork entree. On top of that, they ran out of avocados, and had to cancel our guacamole order. The food is actually good, the experience was brutal though.
Had a super authentic mexican meal recently with great music and singing...very friendly staff....cool margaritas....and allround good value. A must for morningsiders!
Fun place to eat...unless you want to have conversation with people you are sitting with. Live music...very loud. Recorded music....very loud. When we were leaving, the best part was live opera being sung. I had been told that opera singers come to eat/sing here. Unfortunately they started when we were done eating. The place is very festive....just too loud for talking during dinner.
This is our last-minute dinner for New Years, and it was such a fun treat! The Mariachi band is incredible, and adds such a fun atmosphere to the restaurant. Also, the drinks are huge, fun, and instagram worthy! Food was solid...nothing special but good enough. We didn't know there would be a New Years menu, so would have liked more transparency on that, but otherwise good!
Simplyyyy AMAZINGGGGGG..... my friend and I went for their New Years eve/New Year pre fixed Menu and masquerade party... simply amazing The only thing I wished was that they had more options for the App and Entrees for the pre-fixe menu . Overal experience if was ENERGETIC loved the Live dj and The mariach band. The Staff and Manager was very attentive and Checked on us every now and then. The Dessert OMG the Tres leche was AMAZING AND TO DIE FOR... We will definitely come back craving the Tres Leche cake as We speakkkkk
Great food with excellent service. We especially enjoyed the Mexican band playing catchy tunes at our table - great fun
Great place. Excellent food and attention. The only problem was that, being very crowded, it is quite noisy
Perfect place for a fun and festive Saturday night! Along with perfectly mixed tequila and rum cocktails you can listen to live mariachi music -- such a unique treat in NYC. I had the chiles rellenos and they were great, not too saucy. Will definitely come back.
It took a very long time for the waiter to come over.....then whenever we needed him, he was no where to be found, but we do love it there
I walked by and saw a lively bar scene, so decided to take my kids for a birthday dinner. I also got a child friendly takeout dish.
It was okay, but really just okay. They tried to seat us in the large second room, which was absolutely empty and freezing -- and had bulky, stuffy furniture. We moved to the area near the bar, which was a bit better, but still too cold to properly enjoy a margarita. The service was attentive and friendly and the food was just fine, nothing to rave about, but totally acceptable.
The food is not great. The enchiladas did not taste like enchiladas. The rice and frijoles were bad! The customer service and ambience is great. The mariachis are very good also. More of a place to drink and eat chips and guac. The non Mexican dishes are decent (salmon, steak).
Brunch was great - the food and service were excellent!
We will be back.
I used to go to Mama Mexico a lot and it was always lively and full. I was really surprised when they closed as they seemed so successful. Well, I tried Mexican Festival this past Sunday night and was not thrilled with the experience. The ambiance and the food were excellent, however the service was a bit ragged. The waiter didn't know what "straight up" meant and I had to convince him that the bartender would know. I had to ask for hot sauce three times. The waitress brought the bill without asking if we wanted coffee or dessert, which we did. The topper though was, when I got home, items were missing from my doggy bag. I don't expect to go back.
Service was slow, no one really listened to how I wanted things prepared..the wine took forever, then I asked for the veggies to be burnt, they came out not even close to burnt, I sent them back, they came out 15 minutes later, soggy...It was an off night
Se tarda mucho la preparación de la comida.
I remember this place when it was Mama Mexico and I guess that I should have just stayed with my fond memories. What a disappointment it was! The margaritas and the food were a big let down and I regretted all those calories I was consuming for a far less than satisfying dinner.
The food is good Mexican- lots to choose from and great fresh guac. And, it is fun to be there, especially with a group. Family favorite when the kids are in town.
Why do they put cheese on everything and not list it in the menu? I only went here because they had a special Living Social deal. Unfortunately, they had terminated the agreement with Living Social. I won't go back. The food really wasn't very good.
My first time at this restaurant, which is the latest Mexican at this location. We asked for a table away from the very loud music but halfway through the meal the very loud mariachi band came over to our side to serenade a large table so it became impossible to talk. And this was a Wednesday night so the weekends must be even louder. Casa Mexicana on Amsterdam has same quality food for less money and less noise so I'd say go there.
Watery margaritas, tasteless chicken tacos, although guacamole and tortilla soup not bad.
Went there for brunch. As a Mexican myself, I'm very happy to report this place has real, authentic, yummy Mexican food. Service was excellent too. Will definitely be going back.
Mexican Festival is a fun spot with a mariachi band that play all the favorites. The food is good too...more traditional Mexican than TexMex. In all the excitement, the service can be a little spotty. But overall this is a great place for a fun night out, not too expensive and very friendly.
my family saw this mexican restaurant in the television so we decided go there 1 hour 1/2 of driving we saw the reviews that they have they were horrible but we decided to give it a shot we got there was no body in the from to sit us we went in and I ask one the busboys to sit us everything was going good until the food came it has no taste no flavor i didnt eat at all my mom dish she got pork all the meat was grease.there is better Mexicans restaurants in ny than this one I don't recommended unlisted you don't want to eat.
great food - the guacomole is delicious an dthe service was great.
