Metzger's never disappoints! What I ordered was completely different from what I expected, but delicious nevertheless.
Delicious food, amazing drinks and incredible staff.
The food that was good was really good, while a couple of dishes fell a bit flat (for our liking). The duck and sides were delicious, while a fried Morrel mushroom dish was served luke warm and left us disappointed with such a great ingredient.
The staff was amazing and attentive.
Despite a shortcoming or two we’d definitely give this spot another chance.
A treat for the taste buds, from specialty cocktails and charcuterie, to dinner and dessert! Thank you for a great night.
Food was great and very creative. Ambiance was OK, nothing special.
It was fantastic--everything!
We had a great experience. Our bartender was knowledgeable and friendly. Our waitress was knowledgeable of the menu and the food was so, so good! We will be back😁
Great quaint eclectic restaurant
Interesting appetizers,we especially enjoyed the fried morel mushrooms. My drink St geeland was ice cold and potent with great fruity flavor also Austrian rose wine was excellent. My sister and I loved our Lambs neck entree but the duck breast sausage tasted like a very good hotdog to my brother in law. I should have asked about the tasting menu, kind of surprised no presented it.Overall a pleasant dinner on a slow cold rainy night.
Excellent and creative food, pleasant atmosphere, superb service.
Double Date Noght
Massively delicious food. German but not at all heavy. Try the smoked duck breast if they have it. Great wine selection.
It was a tough day I guess as there seemed to be only one server. We went for brunch and the place stayed filled the entire time, so I am not sure why the staffing was so off. We arrived and were promptly seated. However, it was an entire hour before our food arrived to the table. People who came and sat at the bar were able to place their order and were served much quicker. As usual, the food was very good and the portion sizes are always very generous. We will certainly continue to go, but if it is for brunch we will allow for a bit more time.
Outstanding service. Excellent food. Easy parking.Good desserts
A nice neighborhood restaurant, good beer and food selection.
We always love coming to Metzger, thanks for helping make my brother’s birthday celebration special!!
Best brunch in town
Always a treat, first time for brunch and it didn’t disappoint.
Birthday celebration with friends.
We have been huge fans of Metzger's for the past several years.
The service is always charming and attentive.
The food left a lot to be desired.
Also, the menu changes are not pleasing.
I understand menus can stagnate, however, replacement items
must be perfected. Not the case.
My husband ordered the spinach salad with speck as a starter.
The speck was inedible. The presentation was so lackluster
The bread basket used to come from Sub Rosa.
Now the bread comes from Brenner Pass. Not even a close runner up.
My husband ordered the Wienerschnitzel. So Salty!
I ordered the rockfish. Big mistake. Very fishy.
The dessert offerings were not even worth a try.
We couldn't wait to leave.
My husband e mailed the manager. Mistake.
The manager acknowledged that we were steady customers in 2016-2017.
Unfortunately, we had a year of illness and issues in our family.
The response back was, " you didn't say anything," so too bad!
Metzger's was one of our favourite places. NO LONGER. DON'T GO.
There arre so many fine restaurants in RVA that care about what their customers think.
Remember, without devoted customers, the restaurants are nothing.
One of the only places Richmond to offer authentic German food in a cozy, warm atmosphere. Offers delicious classics like weiner schnitzel, with modern German-inspired dishes like duck confit. All done by a female chef no less! When you walk in, you feel transported worlds away from Richmond. A great local destination in a great neighborhood.
Elevated dining that still treats you with the kindness and respect of a neighborhood bar. Delicious food, thoughtful wine list. Love it.
Excellent service, wonderful food done in an innovative way- a true dining experience.
Lovedddddd the pork chops and the service was amaaaazing
My third visit and such a delight! My husband and I were looking for a lighter meal, we ordered the charcuterie and squash salad. We inquired about the sunchokes on the menu and they added two different options roasted and chipped to our charcuterie plate. I adore sunchokes and these were incredible! As were the meats and cheeses. We also had the sticky toffee date dessert with a nice selection of Amaro and sherry's.
Wow, one of the best breakfast/brunch experiences we've had in Richmond. The food was decadent and hearty, the drinks were perfect for brunching, and the service sitting at the bar was as good as it gets. Highest possible recommendation!
Such a gem. Was there on Feb. 17 and our server (wish I remembered her name) was perfect. Delicious and beautiful food, excellent service, and good ambiance. Can’t wait to visit again.
Weinerschnitzel was very good. My wife couldn't find anything on the menu she liked. The rockfish was average. Desert was good but portion was small.
Server was awesome!
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The ambience was ok but the seats were hard for a long meal
Was disappointed in $65 prix fix menu. Was more expensive than necessary. Ordered fried oyster mushrooms for appetizer but they also came as a side with entree. It would have been nice if waitress would have pointed that out. The sticky toffee dessert was very good. Some lighter choices would be nice.
Sorry to hear you were disappointed in the Valentine's day menu. We did offer a pretty decadent selection for the holiday. Our normal menu has some lighter options and the a la carte selections allow you to gauge your spend for the meal. Hope you'll try us again another time!
Good time overall. We like coming here for a date night. But definitely felt price gouged for Valentines Day. Normally we can share and appetizer, then two entrees, and a dessert each. Plus a bottle of wine and stay right around $100. But for both of us on Valentines ran about $166 before tip. So may find a different spot for Valentines, but overall we like coming here.
Glad to hear you enjoy Metzger as a regular date night spot! Sorry that our Valentine's menu was more expensive than than you were expecting. We wanted to offer a special menu to reflect the special occasion. As you said, our a la carte menu has some great values on it. We did our best to communicate the special Valentine's menu with a pop up message on Open Table and by confirming reservations by phone. Hope to see you again soon!
Metzger’s is always one of my favorites in RVA. Good service and great food.
Thanks for the great review, we always strive to make every guest's dining experience great and are glad that you enjoyed yourself. It's great to hear that we are one of your favorite restaurants!
Our meal at Metzger was absolutely delicious - a truly memorable dinner - and great for a special occasion. The waitress recommended a fantastic wine and answered all of our questions with warmth. I highly recommend this place to any foodie and I can't wait to go back.
Everything was superb. We had the pieroges as an appetizer. Hubby had the pork chop and I had the chicken for dinner. Both excellent! Can't wait to go back the next time we are in Richmond. Restaurant had a nice vibe.
Great food! Server was very attentive! Excellent location
Excellent experience. The service was friendly and helpful. Very good German and Austrian wine selection. Best Schweinshaxe this side of Köln.
We keep returning to this restaurant because the food is good, it feels like a neighborhood small cozy restaurant, and it's menu is always interesting. We love the appetizers, the vegetarian dishes are really good and we sometimes order them even though we're not vegetarians. My husband enjoys the pork chops cooked medium rare and they are cool with that!
It was decent. A bit loud but a cute place. Pretty tasty and different dishes but there could have been a few more selections in each section of the menu.
Great family dinner experience. The staff was efficient and friendly, All 7 of us enjoyed the heck out of our dining experience. Bravo!
Great to see local restaurants in the city first and foremost. Food items were pricey. Three dollars for bread is a bit excessive. Food takes a while to come out and didn't come out up to temp like it sat in the window too long. Taste profiles of the food we ordered was good. The chicken schnitzel on the other hand was bland and not worth the 18 dollars I paid for it. It's not that Metzger isn't good but there are better places in the city to go to for 100 plus dollars for dinner for two. The Drinks from the bar were excellent.
