metropolitanKC - Marriott Hotel Kansas City
Overall a very average experience.
Great food, beautiful atmosphere, just ok service. The waitstaff seemed almost bothered to serve us.
When traveling, my usual plan is to avoid hotel restaurants. I have found that they typically offer bland food and mediocre service. Imagine my surprise to come across the Metropolitan at the downtown Marriott. My wife and I came here for Restaurant Week a few years ago and found a hidden gem (although hidden in plain sight). We have returned for other meals, including Mother's Day brunch and dinner before a stage performance at the Music Hall. Each time we have been impressed with the food and the service. The burger for lunch is quite good, as is their weekday lunch buffet. For dinner the BBQ Salmon and Warm Carrot Cake are excellent. Parking is easy below the hotel and the restaurant will validate for 2 hours parking.
Sadly, the meal took over an hour to serve. The prime rib ordered “medium rare” was served well done. The server was very kind, but kitchen did not do their job.
The food was great, everything we had was wonderful. The view of was really nice as well. As a place to eat before or after a show at the Music Hall is worked out great.
BEST STEAK WE HAVE HAD IN A VERY LONG TIME AND IN COMPARISON TO POPULAR AND WELL KNOWN STEAK PLACES!
First time visitor so was not sure what to expect. Seems like they want to be an upscale restaurant but they are not. Menu was too limited for my taste and a bit pricey for what they offered. probably will not return.
This is perfect for before a performance at Music Hall. Service and food were great.
Good location for an excellent pre-theater meal. You even get a discount with your theater tickets.
The food is good to average overall. It is very convenient if you are going to an event downtown and is easy to get reservations.
I was a little put off by the "barbeque salmon." However, it was really good! There is just a glaze of barbeque sauce on the salmon -- very tasty! My friend and I ate there before going to see a performance of "Hamilton" and were very impressed with the service and the food. Neither of us had had mashed cauliflower before and thoroughly enjoyed it.
We ate at metropolitanKC prior to a performance at the Music Hall. The waiter was very attentive to our time frame and made sure we ordered, were served and paid on a timely basis. Two of our party opted for the prime rib dinner special; both enjoyed the meal even though the prime rib was cooked a little darker than they preferred. The other two enjoyed the bbq salmon and the portobello mushroom 'steak.'
Overall, the meals were well prepared and enjoyed. We will likely return prior to another Music Hall performance.
Too expensive for parking if just eating at restaurant.
We had a reservation for 5 and were seated at side by side booths. We waited 45 minutes for our orders of sandwiches and salads. Halfway into our wait, a waiter seated another party at our second table and forced our party to squish into one booth. The wait was terrible. The food was ok. The service was not good.
We were going to see Hamilton at the Music Hall and decided to try your restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised to find a good restaurant in the area. Food, service and atmosphere were very good. We plan on returning.
Food was good , service was just ok , not busy so should be better service !
The food was amazing and our waiter was wonderful. Will definitely be going back!
Excellent food and service while we were there. Nice prices and good value.
Excellent experience. Food was delicious. Wonderful selection. Only tasted a few but felt selection matched price. Staff & service were exceptional. We were seated immediately. Staff was friendly, courteous and professional. It was a great experience!
Mother's Day Brunch was outstanding. What a pleasant experience! We have eaten here once before for lunch so we thought we would try it again for brunch. The food was excellent and presented well. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Usually I avoid hotel restaurants when I travel, yet this is one that I happily go to and I live here!
My wife and I were in a hurry because we had tickets to see a musical across the street. We sat for ten minutes without our order being taken. When the food arrived, I explained the situation and told the waiter when we needed to leave. He brought me a bill that he did not collect, or show any interest in collecting, until well after the time when we needed to leave. I had to get up and bring the bill to him. The food was actually good and I would have loved to have had ten extra minutes to enjoy it. This could have been a good experience if they had respected our needs around time.
Tried their brunch after seeing a promo - glad we did. Oysters, peel and eat plus suckling pig and prime rib accompanied the standard, very good fare. Great service and not too crowded.
We went for Easter brunch. We showed up about 15 minutes early and were seated immediately. Staff was friendly and attentive. They had cute decorations for Easter, napkins in shape of bunnies with eggs. Many food options, all great!
Had a good meal pre theater. Steak cooked perfectly, wife's salmon dish was served on mashed cauliflower with green beans. Seemed to be very popular pre theater dining spot.
On an especially busy night our reservation was honored immediately with an excellent table and superb service.
The food is good, but the service is slow and spotty. Many better choices in the area.
The restaurant was very nice, very good service A little more expense than I anticipated since open table said $33 per guest. Nevertheless it was very convenient to eat and go across the street for a performance. I would recommend the restaurant to others
For a hotel restaurant, the food was amazing. Perhaps one of the 5 best steaks I've had. KC Strip was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Presentation was sparse and uninspired, but it tasted amazing. Service was spotty, and the atmosphere is typical hotel, but the food outweighs all that.
Nice cozy place. Our waitress, Irma made us feel really welcome. Will definitely return.
Our server, Linda, was excellent! She was attentive, pleasant, knowledgeable and personable. Well done!
I like to park and eat here before an event at Municipal Auditorium. I had one of the best BLT's ever and my daughter's burger was also good. The only issue was the sun coming in the windows was a little warm. The walk to the theater is underground. You get a discount on parking when you eat there. When leaving, you aren't caught in the parking mess - just walk to hotel and leave quickly
Great lunch! Loved the chicken sandwich on the pretzel bun
We had a great Thanksgiving Brunch. The staff was genuinely happy to make our Thanksgiving meal a delicious success. The food was the perfect blend of creativity and tradition with obvious quality ingredients and careful preparation.
They seated 11 of us for thanksgiving family get together. Parking and entry was easy, food was decent. All went as planned. Satisfied
The Thanksgiving buffet was amazing! All of the food was delicious and there was a wide variety of food to choose from including traditional Thanksgiving foods.
Chose Metropolitan for our Thanksgiving Dinner. Had much variety in the food with fabulous traditional Thanksgiving dishes. All employees were very pleasant and welcoming. It was busy, but not overwhelming or had the feeling of sitting with other diners. We already talked about coming back next year.
This is our go-to place for Thanksgiving Brunch for many years!
The BBQ Pasta was delicious although I'm afraid there should be a warning about the calories. It was quite rich.
Our server was unattentive and rarely checked on us. He seemed overwhelmed.
Pre theater dinner - service good but the fish was totally over cooked. Waiter didn’t seem to think so, but my mom ate it anyway as it would take away from the available time we had before we had to walk to the show. Meats and salads were fine but will never order fish there again.
I enjoyed the Barbeque Salad. I could smell and taste the hickory flavor from the smoke on the burnt ends. The smoked cheddar dressing provided a nice accompaniment to the meat. This was the first time I have had burnt ends, and it will not be the last!
