I purchased a $99 travelzoo voucher for the Metropolitan Restaurant in the Willis Tower and it was NOT the 1st year wedding anniversary dinner that I had planned.
Excluding the $41 parking, we then had to go through metal detectors twice as if we were going through airport security and were hiding something when they finally discovered it was my high heeled shoes that had a metal shank. I understand that security is necessary but boy was it so annoying!
Once we finally arrived to the restaurant and finished our meal, I received the bill when I noticed they charged my card $177. I was wondering why the bill was so high given the fact that they’ve already scanned my $99 voucher but I then realized that they obviously hadn’t taken it off the bill.
Unbeknownst to me they automatically charge a “Club Fee” of $27 which isn’t mentioned when you purchase the Travelzoo voucher. So essentially your voucher is really only worth $72 and not $99.
When I noticed the discrepancy, I complained about the price and told the manager to credit my card and utilize my $99/$72 voucher. I then specifically asked him not to void the charge but to actually return the amount but instead he charged me the $177 and an additional $68!!! Just a hot mess $268 later (including $41 parking). Will never be back and would not recommend!
Ambiance was stuffy and felt like a hotel restaurant and the food was good but not fantastic for the price and prestige.
I have been here before and have had good experiences. The place is smaller and noisy now and the waiter missed what I ordered.
Has always been my favorite restaurant in Chicago but as of recently they are undergoing construction of the main dining room which is the part with the best views. Open Table does not annotate this and not sure if the website does either. Not really worth going until the dining room is open again. The construction also made it a little confusing to find. Still the same menu and good food regardless.
First off, they had us down for a party of 2, even though it clearly shows in my reservation that it was for 3, thus irritating the gentleman who seated us. One of the reasons I chose this establishment for Easter Brunch was because of the view. However, our table was literally placed far away from the rest of the tables, near the bathroom and next to a window that was completely covered up, so no view for us. ASomeone had parked their double stroller in front of our table, where it remained well into our meal. The food was ok and the Easter Bunny was friendly. Service was ok as well, although our dirty plates sat for awhile on our very small table. Overall, a disappointment and would not recommend.
Lovely view of the city, the waiter was nice and the bartender was funny too! Very friendly staff and exquisite food.
Food was good, but not exceptional. I really see the potential in this place, I mean how could you not? its in the Sears (Willis) Tower!!!. With that being said, this place needs a renovation it looks like and office space that the backroom is a restaurant. this might be the case but with a modernized setting they it can give you a different feeling.
good place, just not my favorite.
Metropolitan never fails to impress. The meal was wonderful. Chef Greg helped make the evening amazing. Even during construction, with the main dining room closed it is still one of the best, and most romantic restaurants in the city. Thank you again for hosting us this evening! Bravo!
The filet was amazing. They even gave us a shrimp dish to go with our bread. Service was outstanding; the dining manager was very attentive, the wine steward even gave us a little tour and took us to our elevator. Quite pricey, but well worth the experience.
I dined here the other night with a work colleague from London. In the past when entertaining work colleagues from international locations, I would select The Metropolitan because of the exceptional service and views as well as the idea of it being an exclusive dining experience.
After my most recent experience, I would not recommend dining at The Metropolitan during the renovation period. It was difficult to find the restaurant after going through security at Willis Tower. Also, I was disappointed that we were not seated in the main dining room which would have offered a more elegant and quieter dining experience.
The seafood entrees we ordered was high quality but overpriced. To make matters worse, the restaurant automatically charges a 20% service fee to the overall bill.
Lovely restaurant... once we found it. The main entrance of Willis Tower is under construction, and all the doors were locked with no signs on where to find an alternate entrance. I called the front desk 4x over the course of 10 minutes before I could get someone to answer the phone to help me find the right entrance.
Once we found the right entrance, going through security was quick and easy. Getting up to the restaurant was pretty easy, but once you stepped off the second elevator, it was very unclear where you were supposed to go. It felt very sparse and like we'd ended up in the wrong space. We finally saw someone sitting at a desk through a doorway and realized we were in the right space - it was not super welcoming or easy to find. Perhaps this is supposed to give the feeling of exclusivity, but it felt like it took way too much effort for us to actually find the restaurant.
We were seated quickly at a table in a quiet corner right at the windows. The setting was perfect! Our server was nice and attentive. I was disappointed there was no cocktail list. The wine list was great and I enjoyed the glass I ordered.
Food was good! It did take a while to be served, but it didn't feel like an an unreasonable length of time. We both had She Crab Soup to start and it was soooo goooood. Perfect for the 40 degree night!
He had lamb and it was perfectly cooked to medium as requested and very tender. I had the goat cheese and cranberry stuffed chicken breast. It was very heavy and too sweet in taste for me, so I didn't eat much of it.
Would go back again.... but not for a while since while the food was good, it wasn't good enough to lure me away from trying another restaurant that might be less hassle, easier to get to, and potentially better food.
One note about the 20% service charge - this is the fee you pay as a non-member to eat at the club, so it *IS* still appropriate to tip your server. Our server was great so we made sure to tip him.
It wAs totally completely wonderful nothing was missed except the chocolate mousse but there will be a next time
We had a romantic weekend planned for us and I found the restaurant by chance. We had a fabulous dinner and a great view. The staff was very attentive and friendly!
Anniversary, Valentines Day
Unfortunately I was disappointed with the food my sirloin was cold, dinner came with a pair of wine and the server only brought one glass after I said 2. Due to the occasion (Valentines Day) I purchased a bouquet of flowers for my date and they gave her the wrong ones with Rupert Evan's name on them. We realized this on the elevator going home. Honestly for a bill of over $200 the experience was not worth it.
Restaurant was going through renovation( long overdue). They should have mentioned this.
Food was good but did not all come out on time.
Entry into Willis Tower was supervised by sourpuss security guard which put a damper on things from the get go. Security people were dour and unhelpful.
No valet or parking; another strike.
Website stated that jackets for gentlemen were required on Saturday nights, so I expected a much more elegant evening. I was the only one in a suit, every other male in the room was wearing a sweater, including the maitre'd. Did not come close to meeting our expectations for a dressy, romantic date.
Will not return.
I only put a three for ambience because they are under construction at this time. Otherwise it would’ve been great.
Absolutely beautiful setting ... A very quiet ... very classy dining venue ... A perfect setting for a dining experience if one needs conversation & privacy ... First class ... This kind of restaurant is unique & hard to find ... YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED !!!!
This is my fourth time having dined at the Metropolitan Club. My experience with the food, service and wine list have been spot on everytime, but the scenic view of the City of Chicago from the 67th floor of Willis Tower is breathtaking.
I highly recommend that you take in this unique opportunity that dining at the Metropolitain Club has to offer.
The restaurant needs an update as it seems to be stuck in the 80's.
went with sister -celebrating milestone bdays for us both food was amazing, view even better. quiet nite so we had the place almost to ourselves, even got a free bday dessert! can't wait to go back!
The food was really good.
Service was an F. It took 30 mins for drinks and the server disappears .
Great view and wonderful service. Drinks were on point.
Superb meal and a great view. A table overlooking downtown Chicago at night, well prepared food, and an attentive and pleasant server made our evening special. The spinach and goat cheese salad and the roasted pear salad were both fresh and delicious. Our entrees, veal saltimbocca and tea brined pork chop were very well prepared. Definitely a restaurant to return to.
It was nice but I wish we didn't have to pay 20% upcharge or surcharge
We celebrated a birthday. It was a nice evening that included the skydeck. They were thoughtful for the birthday celebration. They decorated the dessert plate and gave us a complimentary glass of champagne. The 20% percent surcharge which the menu stated covered the tip was a bit confusing. At the end of the dinner the waitress stated that the 20% tip did not come to her but was instead shared by the staff. I gave a little more for her but I thought that was a bit off-putting, isn't that the normal way tipping is done at a restaurant it is shared? I've never worked at a restaurant I only assumed. The waitress was a bit slow and not as attentive as I saw the other wait staff being with others. Overall it was a nice evening. The only complaint I really had was the location of our table it was in the middle of the floor away from the windows so we could not see the view, the only other tables in the middle of the floor where large parties set. We felt like we were on display. Everyone else in parties of two sat along the windows. There were tables available along the window but we were not offered them.
Great outing loved the view. My fiancé really enjoyed her birthday dinner
Had a great first date. Amazing views - be great to be there once the windows are cleaned! Great drinks, food, atmosphere. Would go back. Loved that the chef met my special request (chocolate covered strawberries) for dessert.
Our server Victor was truly great on this visit. My husband & I were visiting Chicago and I found the TripAdvisor deal for this restaurant. This was a great deal and was a special occasion, my birthday. Right off the bat, Victor asked us where we were from and if this was a special occasion. We had great interactions with him throughout the meal. I got the mustard crusted lamb chops with a mint brown gravy and my husband got the veal saltimbocca. Both were fantastic! For our dessert, he made the night very special for my birthday by adding a candle and special birthday message!
Would have loved to be seated at the window looking over the lake as requested, however we were sat in a tucked away spot on the oposite side of the room. Other then that it was a nice experience with good food and service!
Worst ambience in Chicago, couldn’t enter the main dining area bc I had on nice sneakers, had a jacket on, food is boring , get out of the past, go somewhere else
Need revamp of menu. Take the deep fried chicken wings off menu. They are more similar to McNuggets. Just not good food.
Highly recommended! Amazing views. Excellent experience.
The Metropolitan Club was definitely worthy of a return visit since my last Chicago trip! Rare is the opportunity to find fine high rise dining in the sky. This experience is the pinnacle of my trip and is what made it most memorable. Salmon citronella is the choice of seafood cuisine. I would do this again if I'm ever back to the Windy City for another tour!
40th Anniversary celebration with romantic view overlooking Chicago from 67 floors above. Service was OK, but not worthy of the occasion. Food was good, but for the price should have been great. My wife had the salmon and I had the veal. Did have a private club feel and was not ever full for the duration of our meal on a Saturday night. I would recommend for a romantic special occasion for the view, but would go somewhere else for the perfect meal.
I surprised my good friend with dinner here for her birthday. Not only did she love eating here for her first time but I was also amazed throughout the entire evening. The food was excellent and the service was great. Overall it was one of the nicest dinner experiences that I have had and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Well worth the money.
We couldn't decide what we liked more, the delicious meal or the fantastic view. Service was excellent too. We plan to go back again soon.
I was excited to go to this Private Clubby place, but I was not impressed. The space was nice and the "experience" was good and the food was ok. Had the lobster ravioli and the seared scallops as an appetizer and they were great. If I ever went back, I would have them as a dinner. The filet for dinner was tender, but the strong smell of the smoked bacon when the plate was set down in front of me totally overpowered the steak. For the $200.00+ for 2 people, it was just ok. I would say for me that it was a one time experience...great date night or to take someone out you want to impress due to the clubs exclusivity. The servers were knowledgeable and personable.
I know it's all about the view, but the food is truly dreadful.
