Metropolitan Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Metropolitan is a lovely spot with always good, often great food! We dine here frequently when we are in the mood for something a bit upscale. It can get busy, so reservations are always a good idea (thank you, Open Table!), but they do make an effort to accommodate everyone. During the summer and early fall there are tables for outdoor dining under an overhang facing the street. It can be noisy there as it is right on Main Street, but it makes for good people-watching!
The sushi is always fresh and well prepared, and the specials are always inviting, with something for nearly everyone. I have tried many and have never been disappointed.
The bar is well stocked, they pour a generous glass of wine, and offer several different sakes for those who are interested. The wait staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and make you feel welcome. If you are in the Freehold area this is a restaurant you should have on your dining list.
This was our 4th trip there! Both of us had scallops(prepared 2 diff ways, just perfect!)Servers/service again a 10+ and our fav dessert of freshly made mini donuts with 3 sauces for dipping! We dine early 5pm or so establishment quiet, comfortable and relatively intimate!
We went on a Saturday for late lunch prior to college student returning post thanksgiving break. Our server Matthew was great, friendly and attentive. He recommended items he thought we might enjoy. All of our meals were warm attractive and delicious. Haven’t had a bad meal here Nd have been coming for years.
Seated immediately. Service and timing of the meal was great. Food delicious. Mussels were spicy with plenty of juicy to dip bread. Short ribs were tender served with fluffy wasabi mashed potatoes, skirt steak was cooked perfectly served with lo mein noodles. Too full for dessert. Lively bar area. Will return and would definitely recommend.
Metro has been a go to for me since high school. Food isn’t incredible but it is consistently good and there is something to be said for that. Great bar scene, nice outdoor seating, good sushi and great service. If you want a nice spot to take a date that has an energetic crowd, nice bar, and good food, this is where you want to be.
The food was ok, nothing over the top however the prices were over the top! We had made our reservation for 6:00 planning on receiving 1000 pts from open table. We were quite surprised to only receive 100 pts. Reason being, without our knowledge, the restaurant changed the reservation to 6:15. We will not be returning.
Two adults and a toddler - we were treated extremely well. Catered to some specific requirements and were very gracious when I arrived early offering options while I waited.
Food was fresh and interesting on the brunch menu- was very grateful that it wasn't a buffet. Sharon was on the ball and the assistant server was responsive.
We had a wonderful time there for lunch. My dining companions ran into a thunderstorm on the way and alerted me to the fact that they would be late. I informed the hostess and she was totally understanding and stated she would hold the table for us. Our server, whose name I sadly forget, was extremely pleasant and professional. Everything was timed perfectly and we never felt rushed. Since it was my birthday and my friends were picking up the check, I will have to find out from them the name of our server because I would definitely ask for her again. Very nice food presentation and extremely tasty. Will most definitely return.
A little loud because there was a di but overall the ambiance is great. Our waitress was wonderful, attentive and accommodating with my food allergies, which was very important for me. The food was good, very fresh and flavorful and dessert was fantastic! Made for a wonderful date night.
The restaurant was very nice and quiet with enough space. However, I was texted that my table was ready and when I finally arrived I was told I had to wait at the bar. The hostess forgot that I was waiting until I approached and reminded her which was 20 mins after our arrival. The food was good but very pricey. Even the drinks at the bar was highly priced and the vibe was mediocre. I would have enjoyed a more lively ambiance.
We've eaten here a few times and always found the place noisy. This time though, it was very pleasant. The wait staff was attentive, the food, very good and the prices, surprisingly affordable. It was a beautiful day and the only thing that would have made brunch better would have been to have eaten outside. But, we were six and there were tables available for outdoor dining.
We enjoyed our meal and the company and the Metropolitan Café played no minor role in that enjoyment.
The restaurant is located on Main Street and along with others in the 2 or more block radius has outside seating. In nice weather, as this was, there were a lot of people out and about and live music on the street. The restaurant's seating and bar have a nice up scale appearance. The menu has quit a variety of appetizers, salads and entrees. We had a scallop dish, one of 2 scallop dishes, and the Cuban skirt steak, one of 2 skirt steak options. The latter was accompanied by black beans and arroyo verde. The scallop dish was excellent but the Cuban skirt steak was not as flavorful/spicy as hoped from the description. The restaurant has a full bar, and is generous with the amount of alcohol in its drinks.
