Excellent food, drinks and service. We had an 8:45 Saturday reservation. Bar area is packed of happy patrons. Seated promptly. It was was a fantastic surprise to find out after the kitchen closes the main floor turns into a nightclub with an excellent DJ. (At least on sat) Our group stayed longer to enjoy the music and dance. Bartenders are on top of things and always in motion.
Server pleasant. Food average. Nothing to rave about. Will I be back? Possibly, but most definitely not for a long time.
Metropolitan Cafe has been a sure bet in the past but on this night the lobster tail special dinner let us down. It was very dry and did not have any taste. We are hoping this was a one time slip. Everything else was up to par and beyond. Service was exceptional.
Celebrated Valentines Day. The used to be a restaurant I frequented. Hadn’t been to in awhile. Had an early reservation and was seated first booth next to the kitchen. The food was only ok. Lobster tail was very tough. For the value this restaurant did not deliver. We could have stayed closer to home and been assured a better meal
Sushi was terrific. The lobster tail special was terrible — way over-cooked.
Excellent as allways!!!! Food is alllways great and i have never had a bad meal here.
We ate here before and had an excellent meal. This time was dissapointing. My filet mignon was very charred on the outside which gave it a very strong burnt taste. It was medium on the inside which was how I ordered it. I never had a filet come out like this. Other than that, we had a nice meal.
Wasn’t as good as It has been I the past. Food was slow waited way to long for everything from drinks to the bill. Not usually small portions and like drinks.
Best Sushi around!
I don’t want to knock this place too much because the food was very good. BUT, it is way over priced for the amount of food you get. My meal with my fiancé ended up being over 200$. Which I thought was a little pricey for a “cafe” in freehold. Like I said good food, just overpriced won’t be returning due to how expensive it is. I can get same food for cheaper at other places. Plus the menu is quite small. So you have very limited and pricey options.
Nice place sashimi pieces were a little small drinks were good
Sunday dinner with the family.
Nice decor, great seating and lounging area.
Service was great.
Everyone at the table had some thing different.
Food was delicious!
My wife and I came to the Met for our second wedding anniversary. We had a splendid time. The service was excellent, the food was spectacular, and the ambiance pleasant. This is how fining should be done. Well done to everyone involved in tonight’s shift. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this gem.
It's rare for me to pay for a pricey meal and feel like it was truly worth it, but from appetizer to dessert, I can say that the Metropolitan Café was worth every penny. My entree was the special of the day, which was a rib-eye steak with garlic mashed potatoes, and I wish it were on the regular menu. My date had the seafood risotto, which included the most perfectly cooked scallops I've ever had. For dessert we had the pecan fudge with caramel ice-cream, and it was a delight for me. And I almost never enjoy dessert after a filling meal. I highly recommend this place for special nights.
Good food. Little noiyy
Overall the food is good. Some things are better than others. The sushi is quite good for a restaurant that serves American fare as well as Asian food. Both varieties of potstickers are good. The filet spring roll is a real disappointment - it’s huge but very heavy ( it’s an egg roll not a spring roll) and bland the orange sauce on it is horrible.
The short rib sandwich is good. The salads are fresh - the avocado salad on the sushi page of the menu is delicious. The sides of bacon and sausage are also very good.
Good cocktails and wine list but they don’t keep the wine list up to date. We keep trying to order the Grgich Hills but they have been out of it for months (so take if off the wine list!).
The service is excellent. We really like Viktoria - she is friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu.
Food and service was excellent
I love eating there
Friendly and nice
They do not rush you at all
My Birthday Dinner w friends!!
Delicious! Steak was done perfectly. The kitchen accommodated my request to change my side from grits to vegetables. Another perfect dish!
Great local place with nice ambience Food & Sushi is always spot on. Service is always pleasant It’s a good spot for date night or to take your clients.
We met a friend that lived far. Freehold is about halfway for us. The food was good. I had Sushi that I really enjoyed, My friend had Grilled Cheese which she said was delicious. My husband had a Ragout which was just so-so nothing worth noting. The table next to us was REALLY noisy and made it hard to talk. Service was decent. I would recommend trying it definitely.
Always good food and service one of my favorite restaurants!
I’d been to this bar/restaurant before, they have a great happy hour with a great $5 wine (the Pinot Grigio) and great value for money apps, so decided to try it for dinner on a Saturday evening. The cocktail I started with was delicious, the welcome was friendly and professional and there was a nice atmosphere. We had the filet mignon spring rolls to start, which were delicious. My husband had sushi which he enjoyed and I had the Asian BBQ short rib pot roast... this was very good but personally I would have liked more ‘gravy’ and a few more vegetables. It was a good portion size, not huge (it didn’t leave me feeling ‘stuffed’) and the meat was good quality. It was a bit on the pricey side but I’d much rather pay a few more dollars and get a good meal than a few less and be disappointed. There’s a great selection of dessert wine, port, congnac etc and possibly the best selection of whisky I’ve seen this side of the U.K. Dessert was the seasonal gelato and sorbet sampler and the chocolate espresso cake... both good but not outstanding. The service was good, the waiter was attentive but not overbearing. All in all a nice dinner out, and I’ll definitely go back.
Great atmosphere and a phenomenal server. Food was very good.
Nice happy hour. Food and service were good
We went at 5:45pm on a Saturday night because it was intimate and quiet. We had special drinks which we loved: Angry Mango Martini and Berry Sangria. The Creole mussels were unbelievable. I can't get them out of my mind - so delicious. We then shared the warm mushroom salad with strawberries and goat cheese. I was very full at this point but more food was on its way. I had the Asian Skirt Steak with lomein and sauteed veggies. My husband had the Cuban Skirt Steak with wonderful cut up veggies. And for dessert we had the Apple Streussel with vanilla ice cream in a jar. - to die for. There were so many excellent options on the menu that we have to come back. They also make fabulous sushi.
The boss took me out for lunch on my birthday with other staff members. I come here often as a brussels sprout Caesar salad is my favorite. The calamari another appetizer is also fabulous
I haven't been to the Metropolitan Cafe in many years so decided to re-visit for a post holiday brunch. The food, service and staff were all excellent. I would have given a 5 star review however the ladies downstairs restroom was very dirty which was a turn off. With that aside, I would dine at this establishment again in the near future.
Half he food we ordered was flavorless and they sat us at a tiny table against the wall and under a chair rail. Too tight for a tall couple.
Been here numerous times and each time is like the previous.........excellent in many ways. If not we would not be returning as often as we do.
I've been here many times and have never had a complaint. The food and service was
fantastic again as always.
I went to Metropolitan Cafe on a Friday night with my boyfriend. Our reservation was for 8pm but we got their at 7:30 and they sat us early! We got the pulled pork tacos as an appetizer (not usually something I would pick but they were delicious). We were also both very happy with our meals and completely cleaned our plates. We left full and very satisfied! Can’t wait to go back!
Very loud .. could not talk.
Sushi was good but you needed a microscope to see it. I was starving.
My husband and I always enjoy going out to a nice restaurant on Christmas Eve and this Christmas Eve was no different. We have eaten quite a few times at the Metropolitan and each time has been a truly outstanding event. Big hats off to the lovely waitress at the front who gave us the most charming table in the room, and the wait staff once again was on point. My husband had the crab cakes which were perfectly done add small donuts with sauces to dip in for dessert and the night was complete.
Again this year went for my Birthday Brunch/Lunch and again was the best as usual! Love Metro Café!
My waitress was only here for a week and she was awesome.
Excellent service, our server was well versed and could actually advise us on our choices from the eclectic menu here. Old fashion cocktail was great, baked Brie recommended by our server was perfect to share, and entrees were delicious.
Interesting menu and warm decor. I will return soon.
Metro Cafe is a fun, yummy restaurant. We had some fabulous sushi and salmon. The lobster bisque was to die for. Late night on Friday there was a DJ who’s played the best music. I highly recommend.
