If you want excellent food
in a quant non scene restaurant
this is the place in the South End for you
Food was good. It was a HOT night and the A/C didn’t seem to be working well. I was warm and uncomfortable. I
Mikey was an awesome waiter and the food was good as well. We will definitely be back!
The food was delicious and fresh. Our server was knowledgeable and very helpful as she shared a good allergy with one of our party. It really made navigating the menu easy and added to an overall great experience.
Enjoyed my meal. Very low key, friendly place with high quality food.
Reunion with old out-of-town friends. Our server was delightful and dinner was, as always, perfection!
Great service, cozy location, and lots of variety to please vegetarians, carnivores, and fish fans alike. And entrees all include vegetables as well so is a well rounded meal.
Love this place! Dinner was amazing! We have eaten here for brunch and dinner on multiple occasions. Small enough place to feel intimate and exclusive. The staff are attentive and very friendly. Can be a little loud if you are seated by a larger party but not nearly as bad as some other places we’ve eaten around Boston. The truffle butter with sea salt is fantastic!
We really enjoyed this restaurant. We had reservations, but it was a slow night so they weren’t necessary. The staff was attentive and the food and drinks were outstanding. We dine out a lot and 5 star reviews have to be earned. They definitely earned them here. Highly recommend!
This place is such a hidden gem. Don't waste your time on Newbury street at mediocre restaurants when you can go to the South End and find a place like this. The food quality is amazing, they frequently change the menu and use fresh ingredients. The ambiance is also lovely and cozy, perfect for a romantic night out. Great cocktails as well. I highly recommend this place!!!
This is one of our favorite places . It’s a small Parisian style restaurant with a small bar . Food is consistently excellent as is the service.
Excellent food! The service was excellent and the ambience was very nice. Highly recommend. The waiter made a great suggestion for wine to pair with my dish. I cannot wait to go back!
Food and service was incredible, but the AC wasn’t really working and that made the overall experience tough. Will try again on a cooler day.
Consistently good food every time. A great neighborhood gem!
Quaint and welcoming European restaurant with delicious food and upscale pricing.
Our go-to neighborhood restaurant for overall great quaility food and drink, excellent service and cozy venue. We have NEVER been disappointed!
Excellent food and service!
Cute little spot in the South End. Food was much heavier than expected...they use a lot of heavy cream and butter in the dishes. We sat at the bar which was nice but the bartender was clearly at the end of his shift and seemed to rush us out, though sort of politely, but also very blatantly. I’ll go back, but I won’t rush there.
Wonderful in every way!
The food was excellent and generous.
Consistently excellent and creative food. Lovely and comfortable setting. A gem!!!
loved our dinner. And our server. Food and ambience was spot-on and service was stellar. Will be back!
We invited our out of town friends to join us for dinner. They too loved it! Great wine & cocktails, food, and dessert.
Always great! Food is consistently good and wait staff is friendly, efficient and accommodating. Nice intimate atmosphere. We love it!
Always enjoy a Metropolis evening. Loved old favorites asparagus tartar and fabulous chocolate cake.. we tried scallops and trout for the first time and while we liked them we did not love them.
Mikey as usual was great
My wife and I went in on a Saturday evening and had a really enjoyable meal. We love the Cafe's of Europe and this brought us back. I had the duck and she had the pork and both were good. They had a wonderful Creme Brulee. The service was wonderful and the prices were reasonable for the quality of food. We are already planning on coming back.
Metropolis is a valued restaurant—it delivers consistently good food with friendly service in a great environment. It never disappoints!
Excellent food, great ambiance, and fabulous waitstaff. Highly recommend!
I love this place. It is one of my old favorites and it never disappoints. Food and drinks are consistently good, it is cozy and the menu changes frequently which keeps it interesting. A testament to the ownership that this restaurant has maintained its reputation and quality over the years.
The only negative was the temperature inside the restaurant was very warm that night. They finally opened the door which helped a bit.
The food was excellent as was the service by Ashley !
We really enjoy Metropolis. The menu is great. The food excellent and the service pleasant and timely. We plan to come again soon.
The service and food was exceptional. We will definitely go back.
Our pedicab driver grew up in Boston and has lived there his entire life. He suggested eating at Metropolis, and said it was the best restaurant in all of Boston. The “cafe” name understates the amazing, fine food they have there, and of all the meals we had in Boston, Metropolis was by far and away the best. It was also priced very fairly, didn’t have all the tourist crowds that other restaurants had, and will be the first place we eat the next time back to Boston. The ambiance was perfect too for a romantic dinner.
We had a wonderful dinner at Meritage while in Boston, which came highly recommended also, and that meal was much more expensive than Metropolis, and Metropolis had the better food.
In addition to the tasty food, the portions were very large. Come hungry or ready to share!
Food and service were excellent! This is a small bistro still restaurant with excellent food and service . We will be back soon!
I was relieved to have a great experience at metropolis because the last time i was there, the service and food were both good, but well below the previous times i had been there. This time, the service was great and the special dish--a pasta with seafood--was terrific. I think the kitchen does get overwhelmed sometimes, so try to go at less busy times.
Great service. Friendly staff. Quiet yet chique ambience. Prixe fixe menu was great and also great value
Neighborhood gem. Great food & staff. Everything on the menu is great.
I had the three-course prix fixe, with the wedge salad, rainbow trout and blueberry ricotta cake. If ordered a la carte, it would be $46, but it's offered at just under $30. Not only is it a great value, but everything tasted wonderful. The only downside was that with 5 people to two fairly small tables it was a bit tight. Still, it is highly recommended. We'll definitely return to order other items on the menu.
Great neighborhood spot you'll want to come back to!
