Metropolis is a European style restaurant w/ a real decent menu. Ambiance is good but booths are a little cramped for 4 people. Its a neighborhood restaurant for us & does a great brunch on Saturday..... huevos ranchero are the best!
I went with 3 friends, taking advantage of Dine Out Boston week. It was a nice menu (the menu itself was nicely presented with type writer font). Service was just as we needed it, attentive but not over the top.
Metropolis never disappoints. Michaela and company serve up some of the best food in the South End. I actually ordered the pork chop instead of my usual chicken. it was amazing. Check it out.
My partner and I love it at Metropolis! It's our favorite restaurant in the South End!
Excellent place to visit. Our small group had a great time.
Outstanding meal. From Philadelphia, but make sure to dine at this restaurant every time we are in Boston. It never disappoints.
Went before going to theater. Service was very accommodating of our schedule, friendly and fast. The food was very good. We were able squeeze in both entree and dessert in just 1 1/4 hours and could probably had an app too!
Fun atmosphere. Went for Dine Out and will definitely come back another time to try the regular menu.
I have eaten at Metropolis several times, and this time did not live up to previous visits. The risotto was overly salted and peppered. Service was okay but not stellar. The (expensive) bottle of wine was not decanted (as it needed) or poured for us (we were left to our own devices). This continues to be a favorite restaurant, but a little less likely to go for special occasion after this visit.
Metropolis was amazing! I just moved down to the city and took my mom out to dinner as a thank you for helping me move. The wine was great and not too overly priced and the food, oh man, the food, SO GOOD. Everything was delicious and exactly as described. Would 100% go back again.
Excellent food and service. I wanted to order everything on the menu! We also had a very nice bottle of Cotes du Rhone. Coffee creme brule was just ok though; the flavor didn't seem very distinctive.
I live in the neighborhood, and I find myself going to Metropolis more and more for great food at an unpretentious spot with gracious service. They have not signed on to the tapas craze, so you can get your own meal and don't have to worry about sharing tiny, expensive plates. The food is simple, but really well-cooked. Mussels are always juicy, half chicken is always crispy on the outside, salmon is never overdone. There are a lot of great places in the South End, and Metropolis may be overlooked because it's not brand new, but I'm becoming a regular.
Everything we had was outstanding. The asparagus tartare is a must have!
Imaginative, tasty with a Continental flair. It's small, so there aren't a lot of private spots, but it's a friendly atmosphere.
One of my favorite restaurants in Boston!
Rigatoni, Scallops, and Chicken were all excellent and unique. Staff was welcoming and helpful. A fun place with great food
Food was absolutely delicious. I only wish the portions were larger. None of us left with full stomachs.
We had a very enjoyable dinner last night. Attentive service without being cloying--our server, the front of the house manager, and the other servers clearing plates, refilling water glasses, and glancing over to see if everything was fine. Delicious food--my wife's asparagus tartare was outstanding, as was my tomato and melon salad. She thoroughly enjoyed her salmon, and my duck was served magret style, common in France, not so much in the U.S., and very good. Dessert for me was a coffee creme brulee, with champagne sorbet for my much better half.
We have had good luck with the Aquitane group, which owns several other restaurants in the South End. Metropolis was a great pre-theater choice.
Very small and somewhat cramped, this place offers a very interesting menu at a price reasonable for its location--Boston's South End.
I find the way the cook combines flavors and ingredients to be inventive and mostly successful. While lacking the ambiance of the South End's pricier joints, this restaurant is definitely worth checking out for the quality of its food.
Are waitress could not have been more helpful and pleasant.
This is our favorite Boston restaurant! Food is fabulous, lots of vegetables to pair with meat or eat in their own. Going back until I have eaten everything on the menu!!
I am from out of town. It was my third time to go to Metropolis. The food is excellent and the ambiance are excellent. I will go back again.
A small restaurant where customers and food get there due attention without any pretense. Food spans French and Italian influences and is creative but comfortable. A neighborhood gen but also worthy of date night--it feels special without destroying your credit card.
Everyone enjoyed his/her meal. Best pre theater meal we have had.
I've eaten at Metropolis several times always introducing new people to it. The food is consistently delicious.
Such a beautiful ambiance. The service was great and the food was excellent!!!
Metropolis Cafe never misses. I dine there several times a year prior to theater and on special occasions. I once took a table of 10 and we almost overwhelmed the staff and kitchen, so I would not recommend it for a group of more than 6 or 8. Their risottos are massively good.
We chose this for our first night in Boston, and a place to enjoy with a friend. I was very happy with the food, and found all of it very tasty. The wines we had all went down smoothly. No complaints. It's not the high end, as are many of our restaurants when traveling, but it's a fun place, with wonderful and innovative food, and a gritty, energetic ambiance.
One of my go-to places. Tonight we got the kale and brussels salad which was delicious and I ordered a pasta special with fiddleheads, mushrooms and truffles. It was exceptional! Never disappointed by this place. I also love that it is cosy and never too noisy to hear people at your own table.
food is very tasty with interesting but not strange sauces. Presented nicely. Attentive servers. Like being out of the tourist district. Will go back next time we are in Boston.
Four of us had an excellent meal before going to Calderwood. The soft-shell crab appetizer and the duck were especially good. Desserts are interesting and varied to meet all tastes.
We've been to Metropolis often in the past, but - for no special reason - hadn't been there in the last few years. We were happy, on this visit, to find it as special as we'd remembered. Small place, not frenetic, great food with many vegetarian options. Very handy to the South End theatre district (Boston Center for the Arts, Huntington/Calderwood stage).
This small but charming room has a very European feel. The menu is on the small side, and one of my dining partners said that none of the apps appealed to him, which is pretty unusual. The Sriracha brussels sprouts were great, but the sauce was actually a tiny bit sweet rather than spicy. Delicious, but not quite as described, I guess. Two of us got a rabbit pappardelle special, but while the server listed fiddlehead ferns as one of the ingredients, I didn't see or taste them. The rabbit was tender (shredded, kind of ragu-like), but the dish overall was salty. Portion sizes were nice, and the prices were reasonable. Nice if you're in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't rush back.
Had a very good experience. Wait staff was courteous and friendly, didn't have to wait long for our food. Would recommend to a friend.
Absolutely recommend the sriracha brussel sprouts!
4 of us ate there for 65th birthday. Energetic, fun atmosphere. Delicious crispy fish, great salad. Strawberry rhubarb pie not so great, but chocolate cake delicious.
Second time to Metropolis, same great experience. Awesome food, great service. We'll go back again!
I always like Metropolis, but the night we visited they were playing very noisy, loud music, not relaxing at all. I would write this off to my age, but my daughters are in their 20s and also commented on the inappropriate music.
Amazing food, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommend, reservations help as this place gets very busy.
Excellent food in a pretty tight environment. Service was a bit slow, but server had excellent recommendations. Noise level was OK that night for a business meal, but when the restaurant is full it can be noisy. This was my third or fourth visit, and I will be going back.
