Metropolis Cafe Ratings and Reviews
One of my favorite South End restaurants! Metropolis never disappoints. This visit was on a Wednesday evening--on our way to a show at the BCA--and they accommodated our schedule perfectly. The prix fixe option is a particularly good value, but everything on the menu is reasonably priced and, in my experience, truly delicious. You can't make a wrong choice.
This was our second time at the restaurant and we all raved about it. Cozy feel to the space. We reserved on Open Table and were seated promptly. Fresh iggy's bread with olive oil, garlic and butter. small specialty cocktail list. Tasted a few wines before we decided on a great bottle. I had a bisque with risotto. Top notch. So much flavor. Service excellent. Others in our group had chicken and potatoes. yum. Fresh fish and the past and sausage dish. Too full for dessert. would definitely come here again. Just like the vibe and food a lot. !!!
We went here for dinner on New Year's Eve and it was so lovely! The ambiance was great and the food was delicious (both vegetarian and meat-eater were pleased). The cocktails looked really yummy too but we didn't have any. There were many couples on dates and a big table of friends too. Good spot for any occasion.
The ambiance at Metropolis and probably my favorite part, small and cozy but with a lot of character and not too cramped. The dinner menu is creative and delicious, and the wine menu is extensive but not super pricey. Our server was also great, she was attentive but not overbearing, and had a fun personality as well. Due to the size, this restaurant is probably be suited for groups of 4 or less. I'll definitely be going back to try their brunch soon as well.
After an absence of several months it was great to return to a favorite restaurant and find all the coziness and neighborhood vibe still there with even better food. A really delicious and interesting menu with good service. A great place to share with friends.
A friend was visiting from out of town and is a little bit of a foodie so I was hoping to impress! Dinner was wonderful - we ordered a bottle of wine and split several small plates. The risotto was wonderful, and we also split the coffee creme brûlée. I will absolutely return.
I don't like to write reviews like this, but I feel I must warn people, who might think this is a good pre-theater option, due to its proximity to BCAE. This has been our go to pre theater restaurant for over 10 years. We always get a reservation for 6 pm and have no problem being out the door by 7:20. I do not know what has happened with the staff, but on two occasions now, we have not been served our entrée until well after 7 PM, despite repeated inquiries during the meal. The answer is always, "your order is next" or "the kitchen is backed up". On this last occasion, which I feel compelled to write about, I inquired about our meal several times, the last at 7:15 and the hostess responded "It will be out next". To which, I replied , " And what are we supposed to do with it, with our curtain time of 7:30?" I was so put off by her nonchalance and unwillingness to admit any fault that I got very angry and told her that this was a poor way to treat customers who had been regular diners for over 10 years. At that point she grudgingly comped a meal that we barely touched in the 5 minutes that we had, before running to the theater. It made for very stressful evening, particularly since we were entertaining a theater director who was us visiting from London. Really sad what has happened with the service, because the food was always so good. I will miss it, having eaten there at least 30 times over the years. Definitely not going back any time soon, though.
A very casual bistro style restaurant. Tables are close together and it is noisy. We all liked the food . The restaurant has a European flair i.e. tiny and brightly lit. There is no waiting area so if you have to wait for a table you either stand outside or are crammed into a small space inside. Because there is limited seating reservations are usually advisable.
We have been to this restaurant many times. The food is consistently well-prepared at a good value, and the ambiance is charming. This time, we had to wait over an hour to be served, even though the restaurant was half full. The server never acknowledged the long wait, and didn't seem to care much about providing good service. I'm hoping this was an anomaly. We will go back again nonetheless.
Consistent, accommodating - relaxing neighborhood gem. Plenty of menu combinations. Easy to sample/share. Food is very appealing, approachable.
Stephanie had an excellent sense of timing, style and substance in serving with nice assisting by Juan. Michaela easily glides all over the room and has and excellent eye to keep things flowing.
Metropolis is a top rate Mediterranean cafe in a lovely, bustling neighborhood in South Boston. The space is small, with bar seating and maybe ten tables, but did not feel overcrowded, even though the place was full on the night we were there. The menu offers fresh, beautifully and skillfully prepared foods complemented by a well-rounded wine list. The atmosphere is casual and the service friendly without being overbearing.
We went to Metropolis on a recommendation from a friend who frequents this restaurant. We had a reservations at 5:30pm and I arrived 10 minutes early but had to wait outside until 5:30pm. It is a small restaurant so I would advise making reservations. The food was amazing - we had the burrata and brussel sprouts as appetizers. Both dishes were fabulous. For dinner we had the salmon and chicken. Again - incredibly delicious. What was lacking however was the service. I believe there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant . Our coffee's came well before out desserts and she totally forgot a side dish for one of the entrees. I felt like we were always trying to track her down - to order drinks, dinner, etc.
