Excellent little bistro in a neighborhood with lots of good places to eat. Metropolis Cafe is consistently good and always worth checking out.

The place is great. However, it seems they are trying to squeeze too many tables close together. It makes it uncomfrtable.

Minus sitting outside in 40 degree weather, the experience was wonderful. I had the Lamb Shank and for dessert the pumpkin cheesecake. The Lamb was well cooked and the meat just fell of the bone. The dessert was heavenly. I would return and recommend this restaurant to others.

The service was really, really slow - and oblivious. Everyone was nice but unorganized and not at all synchronized.

It’s a tiny place with a tiny bar, but you would think they would know to say that they don’t have stemware when you order a Manhattan served up. So they delivered our 3 Manhattans in rocks glasses.

The food was good. But too many risotto options for the number of dishes on the menu.

The food was delicious. I ordered a risotto and it was perfectly creamy and well flavored. My friend ordered chicken and it was tender and flavorful, atop perfect mashed potatoes. My friend's salad was greens which came with no dressing - not very interesting but a good accompaniment to the meal. Post-dinner cappuccinos were excellent and desserts (pear cake, pumpkin cheese cake) were delicious and not too sweet.

Food and service were exceptional. We would highly recommend this restaurant - which is saying a lot! Veal scalloping was top notch. Rigatoni as well. Lovely casual ambiance. All their accolades are truly deserved.

Wist staff is so friendly! The food is delicious. It’s a small restaurant along Tremont, so expect close quarters, but it’s great for dates and a nice night out in Boston.

Chicken was clearly prepared in advanced and then not warmed sufficiently.
They are seriously understaffed but the staff that is there worked so hard to give great service.
Not nearly as good as it has been in the past.

The menu is delightfully diverse and everything my wife and I ordered—tomato bisque, cheeseburger and ravioli—was gourmet quality. The atmosphere was fun and relatively quiet and the waitstaff truly exceptional.

Metropolis never disappoints - last night was our 5th or 6th time having dinner there in the last couple of months and we loved it. The service was outstanding and only wish I'd gotten the name of the ponytailed young man who was our server. He was friendly, funny, and efficient - just great!! The food was just as good as our other visits - one of us had the burger (perfectly cooked medium) and fries. The fries seemed different this time - thicker cut (we preferred the thinner cut ones we'd gotten on prior visits) but they were served hot, fresh and perfectly seasoned alongside the burger so no complaints at all! The other of us had the roasted chicken and it was simply delicious! The skin was crispy and the chicken was also cooked perfectly and sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes with some mushrooms. We also decided to share a dessert - the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and it was the perfect ending to a great meal at our new neighborhood-favorite: Metropolis!!

This was the best service we've had at a restaurant since the pandemic hit! The restaurant was busty, but there was no long wait for our reserved table, drinks, appetizers, meals, desert or check. Full appreciation to all the understaffed restaurants and staff that are doing their best, but this was a nice reminder of what it was like pre-pandemic.

Metropolis is one of our favorites - a fun, reliable neighborhood place with a festive but relaxed atmosphere and a great menu. The food this time fell between very good (swordfish, rigatoni w/sausage, cheesecake, molten chocolate cake) and exceptional (tomato bisque, kale salad and brussels sprouts). IMO - no need to sweeten the (still very tasty, rich) rigatoni so much.

Consistently delicious! Used to go 1-2x/month, when I lived in the South End years ago. I'd forgotten about the bread w/ olive oil & roasted garlic cloves. The various seasonal preparation of the mussels are always a fave. The chicken is always tender - cooked to perfection. And had to get the warm chocolate cake w/ vanilla ice cream. It was fun to catch one of the last warm days on the sidewalk parklet.

My husband, a dear friend and I enjoyed a pre-theater (Lyric Stage) dinner this evening at The Metropolis Cafe. It was our first time eating here, and it definitely won’t be our last!

The food was absolutely terrific. The bread was freshly baked and delicious. Our friend raved about her sriracha-glazed Brussels sprouts starter and spinach-stuffed rainbow trout. My husband and I both started with the sautéed vegetables with green garlic and chermoula, which were fresh, flavorful and perfectly crisp-tender. They were also cut into small pieces, so that every forkful contained a variety of veggies. My husband loved his rigatoni entree, fresh pasta with crumbled, sautéed fennel sausage and a creamy Marsala sauce that balanced and took the edge off the heat from the chili flakes. My burger, which was topped with a generous amount of crisp, applewood smoked bacon, sweet caramelized onions and cheese (the menu says cheddar, but it tasted more like Jarlsberg to me) was the most elevated version of a burger I’ve eaten anywhere. The shoestring fries, while a bit paler than I prefer, were light, crisp and not at all greasy and came with a delightful dipping sauce.

We were able to dine outdoors, which was our preference. Even though the weather was cool, the tall, pyramid shaped outdoor heaters kept us quite comfortable.

Our server was welcoming, attentive, friendly but not intrusive, and efficient, and we were able to finish our meal and walk to the theater with time to spare, and without feeling rushed.

We are looking forward to a return visit soon.

This magical little place is by far and away the best in the South End. From the service to the food, there is nothing like it in this city.

The Rigatoni so good it should be illegal in 50 states.

Neighborhood place we visited pre-show at Calderwood Pavilion, Boston Center for the Arts. Nice, simple but varied menu. Friendly, helpful staff with a sense of humor. Brussels sprouts appetizer was delicious. Excellent burger, excellent rigatoni with spicy bolognese style sauce. Efficient, even with a lot of diners, we left with plenty of time for the show. Recommended.
