Great food and service. Best of the Aquitaine group.
Love this place! Been going forever and it never disappoints.
Warm and friendly atmosphere with a small but varied menu. Always glad to have several tasty and inventive vegetarian options. Signature cocktails are good although wish there were a few more from which to choose.
Service and food are always excellent!
I've been going to Metropolis since they first opened almost 25 years ago (!), but I haven't been in a couple of years as I've been trying out many of the new restaurants that have popped up all over the area (with varying results). I must say that Metropolis is even better than I remember, and is a true neighborhood gem that does everything perfectly. The intimate setting, the buzz of the crowd, the warm lighting, the friendly greeting and excellent service, the reasonably-priced menu and wine list...all adds up to a perfect evening without trying to be over-the-top in any particular area. Metropolis will certainly be at the top of my list for the coming months, as they have such wonderful cold weather dishes such as braised beef, various risottos, duck breast, and the famous rigatoni, which I believe has been on the menu since day one. Congrats for keeping to your roots and providing a perfect evening out without breaking the bank.
Excellent meal as usual. Been here many times; rarely disappoints. Food was excellent; service very good ( salad, bisque, rigatoni, seafood special ). Hostess was as gracious as usual and adds to positive vibe
Normally a busy little place, but we were fortunate to find it cozy and quiet on Tuesday at 6.
Great service! I ordered the "wrong" wine and it was easily replaced with a wine that the server suggested. I should have followed her suggestion from the start.
Food is always great. Staff is excellent and the room is cozy and welcoming.
Delightful, cozy room with low-key conversations at each table. Warm welcome from all the staff, and table was ready at reservation time. Started with drinks and pumpkin corn bread served warm in a small skillet. We think half the restaurant was regulars from the neighborhood. Loved my veal scallopine with layered potato gratin. My partner enjoyed rigatoni with sausage. Fresh ingredients well-served. Polenta cake with pears and ginger ice cream was ok. Will definitely return.
One of my absolute favorites in SoEnd. Cauliflower gratin side and rigatoni are two of my favorites. You can’t go wrong with this neighborhood gem.
Metropolis Cafe is exactly what a "real" cafe should be. Small and intimate with an interesting wine list and always delicious food. I eat there often and have never been disappointed.
It was my boyfriend’s birthday
Great evening of dining at this small SouthEnd restaurant.
Food was delicious but as a gluten free patron our server was not outwardly accommodating.
Exceptional across the board.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Metropolis. The ambiance was quiet (we eat early) and relaxing. Service was prompt and the server was very knowledgeable about the menu items. The food was delicious and beautifully seasoned. My wife had the scallops and I had the cod special. We both highly recommend both meals.
Good service. Good food. Convenient naeighborhood location.
Post-wedding dinner with two dear friends. Really lovely night. They loved everything. One of my favorite spots in the city.
Went here for my anniversary with my fiance, the staff was really nice and informative about the menu. The food was unbelievable tasty and full of flavor, we didn't leave a lick of food on our plates. The wine was affordable and great variety of choices. Would definitely recommend this place for sure. We will be back!
I'll start by saying I think it is a little outrageous that they charge over $4 for butter to add to your bread. We were 2 people. I ordered the shrimp and pork risotto which was very soupy; not at all the texture I would expect or want with a risotto. I ended up eating the proteins and basically leaving the overcooked rice untouched. Other diner ate a fish dish, which he seemed to enjoy. We shared a dessert, the creme brulee which was OK. Overall, we liked the drinks, the ambiance, and the service but the food was underwhelming for the price.
This place is so charming. It feels like you are in Paris and it is kind of a romantic place. The food is fantastic. It’s a small place and your food comes out piping hot And the service is excellent as a result. I love this place.
Food and servers great
Theatre “crowd” presence drove them to be a little pushy all around in terms of rush effect
Best to go, if possible, on nights when no shows running nearby
Welcoming atmosphere. Delicious cocktails. Wide-ranging menu with a prix fixe option. Get you out in good time for the theatre! Friendly service. Desserts sometimes almost too large! We go there again and again because it’s a comfortable experience and close to the Calderwood Pavillion.
Charming little spot. The booths are very tight or cozy depending on your girth. The prix fix menus befor 6:30 is a great value. Service seemed in one case was a bit unfriendly but they might have been having a bad day and all others were delightful. Menus was interesting and well prepared.
My cocktail was delicious, bread was good too. Food was fine.
I was really excited about the food but everything I ordered was cooked in a less than exceptional way. I was disappointed.
Always good food and service
Superb evening out! Everything was terrific but the sriracha Brussels sprouts app is stellar. Order two!
Always amazing and super delicious with a wonderful staff!
Best duck I’ve ever had. You have to try the brussel sprouts!
Just another wonderful meal at Metropolis! We had Ashley as our server, smart, personable, friendly, and informative. We ordered several appetizers and the scallop entree. All were delicious. It was a wonderful evening!
Always great food and service. Our waiter, Mikey, was excellent; not in your face but appropriately attentive. Smaller restaurant so very comfortable feeling. One of our favorites.
Everything was great!
Would not recommend to anyone. The only thing that made up for how poor the food was was our fabulous server. The food was almost inedible, the only good part of our meal was the truffle sea salt butter. Especially for that area, there’s SUCH better options in restaurants.
Shared dinner and conversation with family from Arizona... food was delicious and we never felt rushed. Although we had requested a booth.. keep in mind it can feel a little “tight” especially if you are not on the small side.
The food was spectacular. Really really delicious flavors and fresh seasonal ingredients. Definitely plan on returning.
We visited for the first time for the Dine Out Boston. The prix fix menu was outstanding. I had the flatbread for the app, pork chop for the main and bread pudding for dessert. All were excellent. The wait staff was highly attentive and let us dine at our leisure. Only downside is they didn't have our first selection of wine. Overall it was a great experience and we'll be back.
Great price fixe menu during Boston eat out week!
