This was the best service we've had at a restaurant since the pandemic hit! The restaurant was busty, but there was no long wait for our reserved table, drinks, appetizers, meals, desert or check. Full appreciation to all the understaffed restaurants and staff that are doing their best, but this was a nice reminder of what it was like pre-pandemic.
Metropolis is one of our favorites - a fun, reliable neighborhood place with a festive but relaxed atmosphere and a great menu. The food this time fell between very good (swordfish, rigatoni w/sausage, cheesecake, molten chocolate cake) and exceptional (tomato bisque, kale salad and brussels sprouts). IMO - no need to sweeten the (still very tasty, rich) rigatoni so much.
Consistently delicious! Used to go 1-2x/month, when I lived in the South End years ago. I'd forgotten about the bread w/ olive oil & roasted garlic cloves. The various seasonal preparation of the mussels are always a fave. The chicken is always tender - cooked to perfection. And had to get the warm chocolate cake w/ vanilla ice cream. It was fun to catch one of the last warm days on the sidewalk parklet.
Service was a bit slow, but I'll chalk that up to hiring issues. Our server was great, very friendly and helpful in choosing food options.
The food and service were excellent as always. Michaela, Lina ans Mikey are true assets to your establishment
Fabulous food, service, and comfortable outdoor dining. One of Bostons undersung gems.
Really really delicious. Amazing wine suggestion from the bar tender.
My husband, a dear friend and I enjoyed a pre-theater (Lyric Stage) dinner this evening at The Metropolis Cafe. It was our first time eating here, and it definitely won’t be our last!
The food was absolutely terrific. The bread was freshly baked and delicious. Our friend raved about her sriracha-glazed Brussels sprouts starter and spinach-stuffed rainbow trout. My husband and I both started with the sautéed vegetables with green garlic and chermoula, which were fresh, flavorful and perfectly crisp-tender. They were also cut into small pieces, so that every forkful contained a variety of veggies. My husband loved his rigatoni entree, fresh pasta with crumbled, sautéed fennel sausage and a creamy Marsala sauce that balanced and took the edge off the heat from the chili flakes. My burger, which was topped with a generous amount of crisp, applewood smoked bacon, sweet caramelized onions and cheese (the menu says cheddar, but it tasted more like Jarlsberg to me) was the most elevated version of a burger I’ve eaten anywhere. The shoestring fries, while a bit paler than I prefer, were light, crisp and not at all greasy and came with a delightful dipping sauce.
We were able to dine outdoors, which was our preference. Even though the weather was cool, the tall, pyramid shaped outdoor heaters kept us quite comfortable.
Our server was welcoming, attentive, friendly but not intrusive, and efficient, and we were able to finish our meal and walk to the theater with time to spare, and without feeling rushed.
We are looking forward to a return visit soon.
A neighborhood gem! Great outdoor dining with delicious choices.
This magical little place is by far and away the best in the South End. From the service to the food, there is nothing like it in this city.
The Rigatoni so good it should be illegal in 50 states.
The restaurant was great in fulfilling our seating requests. The wait staff was excellent. The food was very good, but not outstanding.
Gluten free option of the Eggs Benedict was ahhhhmazing!
The chicken and mushroom truffle risotto was fantastic! The ambience is small and quaint and the service warm and welcoming.
Always a favorite.
Neighborhood place we visited pre-show at Calderwood Pavilion, Boston Center for the Arts. Nice, simple but varied menu. Friendly, helpful staff with a sense of humor. Brussels sprouts appetizer was delicious. Excellent burger, excellent rigatoni with spicy bolognese style sauce. Efficient, even with a lot of diners, we left with plenty of time for the show. Recommended.
Metropolis is like having dinner with an old friend. It's quiet, calm, and exceptional service. The food is flavorful and there's good variety. I'm a vegetarian, so I usually have to ask for something custom. They always help me out. Very delicious!
We ate outdoors so noise was ambient street. Food was delicious, and we didn't feel "abandoned" by being outside. I have experienced that in other places. Still love this place!
Everything was delicious!
We sat outside and had a lovely dinner. We had the kale salad, mussels, burger, salmon, and truffle fries.
Actually quite average food, based on this one visit. Nothing special. Service was very polite and responsive to our requests. Presentation of food was on small plates, and could have looked better too.
The pancakes which is my fav at metropolis was dry and burnt
Perfect little neighbor spot! Best Sat/Sun brunch. Yum....blueberry pancakes. Yum YUM YUM, huevo rancheros!
We ate outside and it was a little cool and windy, but we enjoyed our meal. The restaurant is quite small, but it might have been better for us to be inside. The service and food were great!
Metropolis never, ever disappoints. And on top of the great food, the service is amazing!
Metropolis was a great dinner date spot in the South End neighborhood! It is fairly casual but has a very nice and friendly vibe. It is a small restaurant with tons of energy. The food was delicious, and although the menu is small there seemed to be something for everybody.
As always, perfect friendly neighborhood joint
Rock shrimp risotto and pan roasted chicken were excellent entree choices! Love the food and service!
Amazing food and great service. Will definitely be back!
Loved the grits. The avocado toast looked great
Metropolis is one of our go-to's. The food is always outstanding, the ambiance cozy and fun and the service is great. The menu changes but you really can't go wrong!
Metropolis never fails! Charming little place with superb food, excellent and friendly service, and a delightful energy.
Delicious, fresh, creative!
Sat on the patio with a friend. He got a cosmo and I got a strawberry margarita. Both were delicious and very alcohol forward. He had the rigatoni. I opted for the appetizer crab cake and brussel sprouts (which were incredible) as a meal. Great portion sizes and the food was excellent. We were too full for dessert, but I will definitely be back.
Their precautions were excellent but the inside space is very small. I would definitely sit inside once covid numbers are back down.
My husband and I have always loved Metropolis and returned to celebrate our 3rd anniversary. We have been taking COVID precautions quite seriously since we have a 17month old son who is yet unable to be vaccinated - Metropolis went above and beyond to confirm outdoor seating and provided adequate spacing, as well as hand sanitizer at each table. Our waitress Isabella was wonderful and surprised us with complimentary champagne to celebrate our anniversary. Being able to safely and comfortably spend time to celebrate and dine as a couple meant the world to us - thank you Metropolis!!!
We enjoyed our dinner even though the food was a bit disappointing. The chicken-truffle mushroom risotto started out delicious until we realized it was over-salted. The trout was tasty but a bit overcooked and dry. However, the crab cake appetizer was very good. It's a friendly place with good service and menu variety but the food can be improved.
Food was delicious and service was great.
Amazing food - quality, volume and price, and warm, knowledgeable service as always.
Great staff and wonderful ambiance. Food was wonderful.
