The food was delicious... As always the table split the brussel sprouts and they never disappoint... we all enjoyed our entree's..... sitting next to the fireplace is a plus!
We ate outside in a comfortable setting. The wait staff was attentive and willing to accommodate our requests. Eg. we decided to share a salad and some fish tacos. They did a nice presentation of them for each of us.
Went on a Sunday evening so it wasn't noisy or too crowded. Service was fine. Food (petrale sole and pasta bolognese) was a disappointment. Not awful but not worth going out for.
Always enjoy Metro. Good is yummy. Carrot ginger vegan soup is awesome.
Honestly, it was just OK. Service was good, food was OK, but nothing that would make me want to go back.
Fantastic, as always! Excellent food, great service - efficient, friendly, unobtrusive. Perfect. Thank you!
We like this neighborhood restaurant the food is delicious (try the duck spring rolls). The screaming infant through our entire dinner, not so much. Our server was profoundly sorry, but did nothing about it. I love kids (have 4) but the overwhelmed tired ones don't belong at a public restaurant. Ruined our first date night in a long while, we're going to take a long break from Metro.
Dined as a party of six for Sunday brunch. Food was good but service was off. Took a long time for drinks to arrive and then 3 drinks were forgotten. When food finally arrived one of the dishes was wrong; the correct order should have been expedited but when it hadn't arrived by the time the rest of us were nearly finished with our entrees I finally had to approach the waiter about the missing entree. Coffee & water were not refilled and we were never asked if we wanted our cocktails replenished.
Don't let the outside deceive you: good food, good service, and patio seating await "inside." Lots of interesting food options for brunch and lunch--some more creative, tasty than others. Top notch, friendly service, though the place was not particularly busy. Enjoyed the small fireplace and waiting to enjoy the patio when the weather is better. Main downside of Metro Lafayette is the parking as it can be quite challenging to find a space. If you are local, bike or walk to the place to solve this problem.
Lovely for lunch, though a bit noisy when the room fills up. Great service. Pleasant wait staff.
Two of us has the crab salad. Crab and greens were very fresh. A little to much grapefruit for me, my friend liked it very much. My wife loved her beet salad. Nice decor and great place for a leisurely lunch with friends. Staff was very attentive and friendly.
We have never been disappointed at Metro. We've been there for brunch, lunch and dinner and it's always consistently delicious with excellent service and great atmosphere. We'll be back again and again!
Had a nice meal. Great cocktails and the food is great. We could have used a bit more attention from the waiter. Never delivered bread to the table and we had to ask twice for water. All in all, it was fine.
I usually love metro and the food was very good. Unfortunately the service was awful (very unusual). We were ignored for quite a while. Finally a server came over and said he'd be our waiter but he was also the "manager" so he was very busy. His service was terrible and delivered grudgingly all evening. I'd suggested the restaurant to my friends and was embarrassed by the terrible service.
Metro has maintained a solid level of food/beverage over the years. I enjoy the server (Donna?) who has helped me during business lunches on several occasions. Bar service (in lounge, not AT the bar) has been spotty and strange but this time we were in the restaurant. The one thing I was bothered by was an offputting odor upon entering. Not the smell of fresh fish or the sea as you would expect when walking by a raw bar but more indicative of a bathroom back-up. (sorry for graphics there...smell was not appealing) That said, the crab salads were beautiful, light, consistent (our table ordered 3 of them) and fresh and the service was lovely and upbeat.
Great choice for date night. Relaxed staff and exceptional food made the night memorable. Arriving early we had a chance to have a glass of wine in the bar area and the personable bartender - and aspiring wine sommelier set the night off right. Table staff was friendly and efficient - just the right balance
we'll be back soon
Service poor. Sprouts too oily. Expensive.
Great neighborhood place.
This is my third visit to this restaurant. While the food is not bad, I find myself questioning the cleanliness of this restaurant. It nags at me that the table tops and the floors are really sticky. The dining chairs and our shoes kept on sticking to the floor. I then used the restroom and there was a funky smell, most unpleasant. It did not feel clean to me. It's funny, the first time I was there I realized there were old crumbs and food deposits between the dining room table slats. I let it go but now it is more than that. Anyway, I still wanted to give it another try but I don't think I'd be back or even recommend it to anyone. They need to do a top to bottom cleaning; the place needs it.
Four of us went for a birthday dinner. We had asked for a nice table and they gave us one by the fireplace which was lovely. No one came over at all for almost ten minutes and then the waiter was surly, unwelcoming without even a hello let alone an apology for not stopping by even once. The restaurant was half empty at that since it was a 7:15 reservation on a Thursday. He got our drink orders wrong to start. When I remarked that I had asked for my margherita up without ice he pointed out that he could bring it in a martini glass. I found that odd. The vegetarian option for an entree was gnocchi in a heavy cream sauce. Nothing else. Surprising in the Bay Area. I opted for the pasta minus the meat sauce. I got a lumpen mass of pasta with a few tomatoes on top which I had suggested. The waiter offered nothing. They certainly could have come up with a primavera if they had wanted. The dish was the same $19.00 even though there wasn't even a sauce on it and certainly no meat. Everyone else at our table seemed satisfied however but no one was especially excited. I will not go back for dinner. The waiter was unpleasant and my dinner was less than mediocre. It was a terrible offering for what declares itself to be a fine restaurant. Not for a vegetarian. He couldn't have cared less. Dinner was also very expensive to boot which would have been okay if the food measured up. Definitely don't recommend.
Very good restaurant. A little loud in the main dining room. Always a good experience. Excellent service and a fun atmosphere.
The service is very good & our waiter was very attentive. The food is ok ... it's solid. It's certainly not bad, but not amazing either.
The chef needs to learn how to season. Both mains (pork schnitzel and miso cod) were seriously underseasoned. I can't remember the last time I had to add salt to a restaurant dish, but both my husband and I had dishes that were nearly tasteless until we seasoned them ourselves. His potatoes and my soba had NO flavor whatsover, and while the mustard sauce on his schnitzel saved it, my cod was totally bland. However, both my appetizer (Dungeness crab parfait) and our dessert (Butterscotch pot de creme) were lovely. Different chefs?
Regarding service, well, let's just say it was peremptory. There were bread plates on the table. No bread was offered. Not one of several servers asked if we enjoyed the food. It was "May I take your plate?" or "Can I get you anything else?" Had someone asked, we would have let them know about the seasoning issue at the time, instead of giving the mains a bad review. There are far too many places in the area with better food and service, so I doubt we will return.
I enjoy Metro & find the food to be quite tasty. Actually I can't think of a better place in the area for outside dining. I did notice the other night that it was very noisy (maybe carpeting or better acoustics would help). Also the service was okay. In my observation they were understaffed as the place was packed.
We've been coming here since it opened and still love the food and service. But the fireplace dining room was packed as it is on most Saturday nights in winter (summer outdoor patio is wonderful and expands the seating significantly). The dining room has good ambiance, but the noise level is uncomfortably LOUD! The beautiful tile floors, beam ceilings, and windows may contribute to the problem, but any noise reduction techniques to that room would be helpful. Otherwise, we love the place.
This is a go to place...love the food...server was not up to their usual standards...even gave our bill and credit card to another table.
Good food, good wine, good friends. Great evening.
Wow, this was the second time we went to Metro, both times with another couple. The other time we were seated in a different part of the restaurant and we could have a nice conversation. This time, the room was full, there was no way the hear the person seated next to you, let alone the one across the table (4 people, each on one side of a square table). We were shouting at each other (contributing to the noise level) and had a headache when we left. Very disappointing, especially the food and service were really good. We will return, but make a notation in our reservation to be seated in a quite area of the restaurant. Overall rating is only 3 star because of the noise level. Otherwise would be 5 star.
Been going to Metro for a long time. Great place to have a drink and a bite. But the prices are creeping up on the high side. And the portions are getting smaller!! Also thought the risotto should have been in a full size bowl for the price? Not good Metro!!
We were in a very cold area by two outside doors with nobody else around for nearly ten minutes without a server approaching us although at least 7 passed us on their way to the kitchen. We asked to be moved and ended up in a very nice warm area and got served immediately. The food was very good but expensive but as it was our daughter's birthday we were happy enough with the meal. I think we would go there again but only have an entree so it doesn't make it an extortionate meal outside of the home.
We had an excellent and leisurely lunch. The wait staff was very attentive. Try the crispy chicken sandwich.
Just wandered thru town on my way home and was looking for a dinner spot. Metro has a good happy hour, even on Fridays. Duck leg confit for dinner...yum! Hubby had a nice pan seared salmon.
Always consistent, good variety on menu. Only negative--it is always way too hot in dining room!
VERY disappointed. Their website incorrectly states there's a fixed price option. Also my schnitzel were over fried on one side that they buried in the mustard sauce. Great happy hour options and service though.
The food was excellent. I had the Duck Confit, which was a cassoulet style dish with savory beans and chicken sausage. It was a cold night and this dish just brought me home to a warm and cozy place. We also ordered the brussels sprouts and they were divine. The ambiance was great... we sat by the fire and received excellent service. Will be coming back.
The service was slow probably due to the fact that they were very understaffed.
A local gem indeed. I've been to Metro for lunch with the girls, on an ordinary nite when I'm tired with my hubby, & with friends from out of town. It has never failed to satisfy & even impress. The food is interesting (tho' not adventurous) & well prepared & the staff is courteous & attentive without hovering or being obsequious. We keep going back!
We had an enjoyable Christmas Eve dinner with our adult daughters. The food was well made, interesting choices, and very tasty. Cocktails were good along with our ndvidual wine glasses, and beer. The oysters were delicious, salads interesting options for foodies. Entrees provided many choices and overall quite good tasting. We had great service and a friendly waiter. They reserved the table closest to the fireplace which. Was very cozy. The only negative was the noise level. The sound travels and there were several large groups with boisterous laughter and conversation. At times the noise was very distracting but we had a great meal and were happy to be closest to the fireplace which helped to mute some of the noise level of nearby towns.
We came on Christmas Eve. We had a great table, by the window away from noise of the bar area. Our waiter was very professional and efficient. I wish the bus boys wouldn't have kept trying to take away our plates before we were finished eating. The kale salad, brussel sprouts, my gnocchi and chocolate dessert were great. Her chicken didn't seem to agree with her. I am a vegetarian and I liked the vegetarian items they had, however I if I were to come more often, I would appreciate seeing more than one vegetarian entree offering on the menu.
The food was excellent, the waitress was excellent but the hostess was not polite on Christmas Eve, gave us a bad seat in an empty room that was freezing and had a less than welcoming attitude. Another elder gentleman was seated at a table and she asked him to give up his table an hour into his meeting. He refused. The manager was too busy to speak with.
I have eaten here many times before and never had this experience. The food is always very good.
