What Insiders Are Saying
Messhall Kitchen has all the touchstones of the camp experience: an all wood, cabin-like décor, a menu full of comfort foods, and their logo, a tree, can be found everywhere down to the plates. It also has all the touchstones of a damn good restaurant.
Lovely brunch with friends and a pup. Food was tasty!
The best veggie burger I’ve had since I can’t remember when
The food was Amazing!!! The service was Great !! Will definitely be back for the chicken and waffles!!!
Great food and nice vibe. Always enjoy our dinners at the Messhall Kitchen.
A nice restaurant to stop in for a quick bite before a show. Lots of small plate options that are big and inexpensive. Nice selection of oysters at the raw bar, and solid drink menu.
It was my first time at Messhall Kitchen and I will definitely go again. We were seated quickly, our waitress was attentive and friendly and most of the food was great. We didn't care for the hash brown squares which were hard or the breakfast burrito but we had a party of 6 and enjoyed the rest of our dishes. Icing on the cake, they are dog friendly! Yay!
The food was the worst I've had in a long time and the prices are high for what you are getting.
I won't be returning.
Yes I was very pleased and impressed with you service. It also helps that you are near the Greek Theatre.
Drink took over 20 minutes to show up.
Food was served first. Service was friendly and comped me a glass of wine, but I didn’t care for it. The music was a bit loud to talk over. Food was fine.
There were three kinds of oysters on the happy hour menu but only one for the special happy hour price. Happy hour plates are small. I recommend ordering 2-3 per person. I almost wonder if it is better to get the regular menu instead of the happy hour. There's valet parking which is nice in this busy area but no plans yet to come back.
Way too loud this time. As in much louder than it normally is. Service excellent as ever.
Went for a late brunch. Service was friendly but rushed. Drinks (some sort of punch) were watery with little flavor. My friend enjoyed his oysters, but, my French Toast was cold, bland and dry. And the 2 scrambled eggs were dry as well: tasting as though they were cooked an hour previously. I had a great experience the first time I went to Messhall, but, this has turned me off. I'll never go back.
The food and service was great! Bradley our server was very attentive. Will be back next time we are in California. Breakfast tacos are a must!
I mainly go for their Tuesday night special of $1 oysters. I really love oysters and the ones here are delicious. The special menu also features a soft taco, draught beers and a dessert. There is seating inside and outside in a nice patio area with a couple of glassed in fire pits. Even though it was busy, service was very efficient and friendly. My only complaint was that the noise level was high.
Came her for my sister's surprise birthday. We had a great time. Drinks and food were decently priced, everything came out quickly and everyone liked their meal. The only thing I would change would be our waiter. He was rude with an attitude towards the end of the night that upset a few of the ladies I came with.
Food was surprisingly average.
Fabulous place, great ambience and amazing food. Top notch fried chicken and perfect service.
I had an amazing time at Messhall celebrating my birthday with friends and family. I originally planned for a party of 8, but at the end had to add 3 extra people. Messhall was extremely accommodating with this and had a long table set up for us on the outside patio with heat lamps. I’ve eaten here many times and the food was as always perfection! The mess burger is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Also truly appreciate our server Jesse, dealing with splitting our bill and also checking in on us with exactly the right timing. This place is a gem, will definitely be back!
The food was great, however, the server came around only once to see how everything was, we were there for one hour and 30 minutes.
We spent $330, we expected better service
Michelle (server) was adequate...……..may be she had too many tables to take cared of it
Great place as always! See you soon!
It was a great experience. The service was amazing and the food was even better. Prices are a little high for my taste but they have large portions so it was worth it. We went on a Saturday and it got pretty busy in there so the noise level was pretty high but it just means everyone was enjoying their meals. I would definitely recommend it especially for special occasions.
The food was good, but the service was great. Josh is awesome, kind and amazing!
Bill was $197 for 2 ppl.
Server pushed cocktail menu but then didn’t know how they were prepared. Pricey fare for fair food and pretentious libation. Rotating servers doesn’t ensure continuity of service.
Was looking for a 'half way point'between West Hollywood and Pasadena -- I lucked into this place. We also ended up going to the Griffin Observatory for a wonderfullly clear view of LA
fun drinks but pricey. Good food but not many options for someone who wants more veggies, as one of our party did.
Ambience is pleasant and food and service is consistently memorable.
Changing menu of items is great as are cocktails. Really nice service.
Was hoping for better, based on the menu. Brisket was OK, but not as moist and flavorful as it should have been for the price. Fried chicken sandwich was excellent, but the accompanying fries were not crispy. Limp fries are not a good thing. The salmon on the salmon salad was delicious but the greens were bitter and the acorn squash was completely dry and flavorless. Hard to describe, but almost inedible. The atmosphere is fine but the music was so loud you could barely have a conversation with your table-mates. Would not recommend.
Had a great time. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. Chicken sandwich was awesome.
Been here a few times and usually great. Service always great and was. The fried with burgers came out cold, one burger was very raw although asked for medium-well - they did bring out hot fries for us as we asked. We didn't send burger back so that's on us - we were too hungry!! Was excellent otherwise!
Everything was good. Happy hour actually provides value. I recommend, especially from 4 to 6pm!
One of my favorite places for a great burger and fries. Since inside noise level is a problem for me, snagging a table on the patio is key for me. Great staff.
Messhall Taco Tuesday never disappoints.
Had a pleasant dinner at Messhall. Service team were pleasant and efficient. the Noise level allowed for conversation, not shouting. The Old Fashioned I ordered was not the best I have ever had, but was more than sufficient. the meals were well prepared and presented. all in all a good experience.
This is a five-star rating!! (I am trying to give Messhall a five star rating but fear the app has locked on but one-star. Someone in the know should check on this potential glitch and correct it.) Friends joined us for Sunday brunch at Messhall, which we all enjoyed very much. The service was excellent, the food very good, and we look forward to many more such Messhall dining experiences.
I would recommend. Its a bit loud for a family lunch/dinner though.
Great food and service!!
The family went there for brunch and we thoroughly enjoyed everything that we had. We all ordered something different and tasted each other’s food and everything was delicious and well prepared. We also got some cocktails and they were spot on. The server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely come back. I want to try everything else on the menu
This is the most consistent restaurant in LA. It's so good, everything.
Wonderful time, the breakfast for lunch was wonderful. I highly recommend the breakfast Sandy!
