What Insiders Are Saying
Messhall Kitchen has all the touchstones of the camp experience: an all wood, cabin-like décor, a menu full of comfort foods, and their logo, a tree, can be found everywhere down to the plates. It also has all the touchstones of a damn good restaurant.
came with family and dog. sat on patio, great as always
Good drinks, good food, excellent staff. Best place to park for your night at the Greek theater!
The food at Messhall is great. Location right near Griffith Park. Good drink selection and appetizers.
Our waiter was visibly ticked that it was just myself and a buddy for dinner. I have only been here a handful of times, so I'm not as familiar with the menu. Our waiter's sarcasm made sure we kept our tails tucked. Overall the place is fine, a little pricey but whatever. It's LA. But this guy's antics were abhorrent. Probably the worst, and most disrespectful server I've ever had.
Cool ambience and outside seating.
Street tacos were awesome but kale Caesar salad was a downer. Tasted like kale with heavy mayonnaise.
Loved the happy hour menu - great oysters.
We had a great experience, from the cauliflower appetizer to the turkey chili that I ordered and the turkey burger my husband had. We loved the food and will be back.
There are lots of positives here: tasty food, friendly service, laid back ambience, reasonable prices and plenty of parking. My only negative? Portion sizes seemed a bit small. So if you are hungry, order a side or two along with your main dish. Otherwise, I will definitely be back!
Server wasn’t knowledgeable about the menu.
I made the reservation and realized we weren’t going to make it. I called s few times and Natasha, the hostess was so pleasant each time. We had s party of 10, four adults and 6 kids. Everything was excellent. The service was the best that I’ve had in a long time. We ordered steak, salmon, Mac n cheese and I had the mess burger. Absolutely the best burger I’ve ever had. The deserts were fantastic. We had the banana jar and the chocolate chipper. Both awesome! The ambiance and decor was great too. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. It was our first time, but would love to come back next time we visit.
Great food, very good service and while I applaud the restaurant for having dogs allowed on the patio, the two dogs next to us barked frequently and were distracting -- but we'll be back to Messhall -- just probably sit inside.
Had dinner here before a show at the Greek. Fabulous food and atmosphere. Staff was super!
Would totally recommend!
Great place to eat before our concert at The Greek!
Messhall Kitchen was lovely, and accommodated our table for 10 so nicely! I will say the brunch was a little expensive, but overall was great!
Great preGreek Theatre rendezvous spot!
Great Brunch menu. Something for everyone. Very good coffee- delicious donuts and my favorite- Chicken chilaquiles with eggs & green sauce! If you like spicy (but not too hot), breakfast items... you’ll enjoy this dish.
My daughter’s 10th birthday dinner.
The others with me enjoyed their meals but mine was quite mediocre.
Lovely brunch with friends and a pup. Food was tasty!
The best veggie burger I’ve had since I can’t remember when
The food was Amazing!!! The service was Great !! Will definitely be back for the chicken and waffles!!!
Great food and nice vibe. Always enjoy our dinners at the Messhall Kitchen.
A nice restaurant to stop in for a quick bite before a show. Lots of small plate options that are big and inexpensive. Nice selection of oysters at the raw bar, and solid drink menu.
It was my first time at Messhall Kitchen and I will definitely go again. We were seated quickly, our waitress was attentive and friendly and most of the food was great. We didn't care for the hash brown squares which were hard or the breakfast burrito but we had a party of 6 and enjoyed the rest of our dishes. Icing on the cake, they are dog friendly! Yay!
The food was the worst I've had in a long time and the prices are high for what you are getting.
I won't be returning.
Yes I was very pleased and impressed with you service. It also helps that you are near the Greek Theatre.
Drink took over 20 minutes to show up.
Food was served first. Service was friendly and comped me a glass of wine, but I didn’t care for it. The music was a bit loud to talk over. Food was fine.
There were three kinds of oysters on the happy hour menu but only one for the special happy hour price. Happy hour plates are small. I recommend ordering 2-3 per person. I almost wonder if it is better to get the regular menu instead of the happy hour. There's valet parking which is nice in this busy area but no plans yet to come back.
Way too loud this time. As in much louder than it normally is. Service excellent as ever.
Went for a late brunch. Service was friendly but rushed. Drinks (some sort of punch) were watery with little flavor. My friend enjoyed his oysters, but, my French Toast was cold, bland and dry. And the 2 scrambled eggs were dry as well: tasting as though they were cooked an hour previously. I had a great experience the first time I went to Messhall, but, this has turned me off. I'll never go back.
The food and service was great! Bradley our server was very attentive. Will be back next time we are in California. Breakfast tacos are a must!
I mainly go for their Tuesday night special of $1 oysters. I really love oysters and the ones here are delicious. The special menu also features a soft taco, draught beers and a dessert. There is seating inside and outside in a nice patio area with a couple of glassed in fire pits. Even though it was busy, service was very efficient and friendly. My only complaint was that the noise level was high.
Came her for my sister's surprise birthday. We had a great time. Drinks and food were decently priced, everything came out quickly and everyone liked their meal. The only thing I would change would be our waiter. He was rude with an attitude towards the end of the night that upset a few of the ladies I came with.
Food was surprisingly average.
Fabulous place, great ambience and amazing food. Top notch fried chicken and perfect service.
I had an amazing time at Messhall celebrating my birthday with friends and family. I originally planned for a party of 8, but at the end had to add 3 extra people. Messhall was extremely accommodating with this and had a long table set up for us on the outside patio with heat lamps. I’ve eaten here many times and the food was as always perfection! The mess burger is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Also truly appreciate our server Jesse, dealing with splitting our bill and also checking in on us with exactly the right timing. This place is a gem, will definitely be back!
The food was great, however, the server came around only once to see how everything was, we were there for one hour and 30 minutes.
We spent $330, we expected better service
Michelle (server) was adequate...……..may be she had too many tables to take cared of it
Great place as always! See you soon!
It was a great experience. The service was amazing and the food was even better. Prices are a little high for my taste but they have large portions so it was worth it. We went on a Saturday and it got pretty busy in there so the noise level was pretty high but it just means everyone was enjoying their meals. I would definitely recommend it especially for special occasions.
The food was good, but the service was great. Josh is awesome, kind and amazing!
