What Insiders Are Saying
Messhall Kitchen has all the touchstones of the camp experience: an all wood, cabin-like décor, a menu full of comfort foods, and their logo, a tree, can be found everywhere down to the plates. It also has all the touchstones of a damn good restaurant.
I had an amazing time at Messhall celebrating my birthday with friends and family. I originally planned for a party of 8, but at the end had to add 3 extra people. Messhall was extremely accommodating with this and had a long table set up for us on the outside patio with heat lamps. I’ve eaten here many times and the food was as always perfection! The mess burger is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Also truly appreciate our server Jesse, dealing with splitting our bill and also checking in on us with exactly the right timing. This place is a gem, will definitely be back!
The food was great, however, the server came around only once to see how everything was, we were there for one hour and 30 minutes.
We spent $330, we expected better service
Michelle (server) was adequate...……..may be she had too many tables to take cared of it
Great place as always! See you soon!
It was a great experience. The service was amazing and the food was even better. Prices are a little high for my taste but they have large portions so it was worth it. We went on a Saturday and it got pretty busy in there so the noise level was pretty high but it just means everyone was enjoying their meals. I would definitely recommend it especially for special occasions.
The food was good, but the service was great. Josh is awesome, kind and amazing!
Bill was $197 for 2 ppl.
Server pushed cocktail menu but then didn’t know how they were prepared. Pricey fare for fair food and pretentious libation. Rotating servers doesn’t ensure continuity of service.
Was looking for a 'half way point'between West Hollywood and Pasadena -- I lucked into this place. We also ended up going to the Griffin Observatory for a wonderfullly clear view of LA
fun drinks but pricey. Good food but not many options for someone who wants more veggies, as one of our party did.
Ambience is pleasant and food and service is consistently memorable.
Changing menu of items is great as are cocktails. Really nice service.
Was hoping for better, based on the menu. Brisket was OK, but not as moist and flavorful as it should have been for the price. Fried chicken sandwich was excellent, but the accompanying fries were not crispy. Limp fries are not a good thing. The salmon on the salmon salad was delicious but the greens were bitter and the acorn squash was completely dry and flavorless. Hard to describe, but almost inedible. The atmosphere is fine but the music was so loud you could barely have a conversation with your table-mates. Would not recommend.
Had a great time. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. Chicken sandwich was awesome.
Been here a few times and usually great. Service always great and was. The fried with burgers came out cold, one burger was very raw although asked for medium-well - they did bring out hot fries for us as we asked. We didn't send burger back so that's on us - we were too hungry!! Was excellent otherwise!
Everything was good. Happy hour actually provides value. I recommend, especially from 4 to 6pm!
One of my favorite places for a great burger and fries. Since inside noise level is a problem for me, snagging a table on the patio is key for me. Great staff.
Messhall Taco Tuesday never disappoints.
Had a pleasant dinner at Messhall. Service team were pleasant and efficient. the Noise level allowed for conversation, not shouting. The Old Fashioned I ordered was not the best I have ever had, but was more than sufficient. the meals were well prepared and presented. all in all a good experience.
This is a five-star rating!! (I am trying to give Messhall a five star rating but fear the app has locked on but one-star. Someone in the know should check on this potential glitch and correct it.) Friends joined us for Sunday brunch at Messhall, which we all enjoyed very much. The service was excellent, the food very good, and we look forward to many more such Messhall dining experiences.
I would recommend. Its a bit loud for a family lunch/dinner though.
Great food and service!!
The family went there for brunch and we thoroughly enjoyed everything that we had. We all ordered something different and tasted each other’s food and everything was delicious and well prepared. We also got some cocktails and they were spot on. The server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely come back. I want to try everything else on the menu
This is the most consistent restaurant in LA. It's so good, everything.
Wonderful time, the breakfast for lunch was wonderful. I highly recommend the breakfast Sandy!
No servers to be found. Had to wait 30minutes for menus and water. Food was bland and unappetizing. Overpriced. Never coming back
Fabulous food and fabulous service! Loved the atmosphere, too!
This place was a pleasant surprise, my wife and I had a great dinner here. The chef's steak had a nice crust and was cooked correctly, very solid dining experience. We'll return.
This is a great, reliable neighborhood restaurant. An asset to the community.
Great food, but too loud. I will come back again, but maybe sit in another area.
The food and service was great but the noise level
The cocktails were very tasty, and when my entree came out not as I had ordered, they graciously remade it to perfection! Very helpful wait staff. Hip ambiance. A bit pricey.
Sat us in the patio during rain storm....not a great experience.....
So great! I love the Parmesan Egg Bake! Hard to order anything different! Our waiter was so friendly and accommodating.
Even a casual regular dinner is special at Messhall.
Normally I come for brunch but I may start coming on Tuesdays! I love the taco Tuesday $1 tacos! For side dishes The Mac & cheese is garlicy and delish!!! The Brussels sprouts are good but are a little soupy in balsamic, the fried cauliflower was good, for dessert the Chipper was Amazing!! All the desserts sound so good! Overall great experience :)
Noise level is very loud. Hard to hear a table top conversation.
I had the grilled salmon salad - I thought it was very good, but didn't care for the cumin vinagrette - the cumin really overpowered the delicacy of the fish. I think a simple vinagrette would be better.
Terrible service, super loud music so that it is impossible to talk, very mediocre food that was served cold that is overpriced for what it is. Will not be going back.
Food was absolutely amazing. 6 of us at dinner and everyone raved about their meal. Service was top-notch as well. But the experience was not moderately priced in ANY way. Overall it was lovely - just a bit steep on the bill.
They changed their menu. The food was ok before, now it’s on the level of airplane food. The hash browns were a 2 inch square hockey puck, my kale and mushroom omelette had a few leaves of kale and about 5 sections of mushroom. Coffee is good. We won’t be back.
Biggest problem is the noise level. They've obviously tried to deal with it (absorbent panels in the ceiling), but the hard floors and walls seem to amplify the sound. For some reason, the outside seating area is also loud, which I can't explain. Too bad, it's a nice restaurant but I avoid it when I think there will be a lot of people there.
I went for a date night and upon arrival were met with a very welcoming hostess. The waiter was really nice and helpful explaining the dishes to us. The food was delicious and the macaroni deserves an applause!!!!!! Love coming here will be back next week for a birthday dinner !
