Meso Maya - Downtown Dallas Ratings and Reviews
We had reservations so that worked great and our server was very attentive. However, my food was cold and not all that good. I had eaten at another location previously and it was great there so I was surprised by the food quality at this location. It was a busy Saturday night though; perhaps during a slower time, it would have been better.
The food was absolutely marvelous. The chips and salsa where exceptional. Chips where thin and light and the salsa was of the chipotle variety and "smokey ". The enchiladas were among the best that I have eaten anywhere. The service was not bad but placing our drink order or getting refills or even ordering seemed a little slow. Once the order was in, the food was delivered promptly. Despite service being a little slow, I would recommend.....simply an amazing meal.
Meso Maya is a big restaurant in rooms with dramatic high ceilings. It has a pleasing buzz when crowded. The service was energetic and (mostly) usefully directive. The guacamole was good, although I like those restaurants that make it on the table for maximum freshness. The ceviche was appropriately zingy. The mains were ok without being really memorable. They were a little bland when you really want the spice and freshness to come through.
This place puts to shame every Mexican restaurant I have tried in my home state of California. The service and delivery of food to your table is seemingly instantaneous, and it's worth the nonexistent wait! I am a devotee of pozole and try it everywhere I travel, including New Mexico, and the pozole verde here was the BEST I have ever had. Wowee. Our main dishes were great, and notably even the accompanying rice and beans were excellent instead of the usual throw-aways. We made an Opentable reservation and were seated immediately while a crowd of folks were waiting outside, so use OT here and show up on time.
A great way to start is with the flavorful salsa and chips delivered direct to your table. Skip the guac as it's pretty basic and could use a little heat. For a drink with a kick, try la Novela. El Pastor (white sea bass) is uneventful. Instead opt for the Del Mar enchiladas, a unique combination of lobster, adobo shrimp, with avocado. This restaurant gets really crowded at prime times. Even though we had a reservation, we stood at the door waiting for 20 minutes before being seated.
Overall service was great. I would describe the food as Mexican with a modern twist. I ordered the fajita plate and it was delicious. The skirt steak was very juicy and flavorful. I am a big foodie person and can be very picky when it comes to restaurants. This one though... AMAZING!
The food was great as always, but the host(ess) was a bit rude and came across as I was a "bother" to check in. Additionally, I have always felt and continue to feel this place is way over priced, but yet I still return on a semi regular basis for the food. To loud, feel rushed and unappreciated, but if you don't care about the cost and service, the food is well worth it.
Had a gathering of in and out-of-town friends last Saturday evening and Meso Maya delivered a fun evening! We had requested a table on the patio via our Open Table reservation and they definitely fulfilled our request - we had the perfect table in an area of the patio which was quieter and allowed us to be part of the crowd, but still be able to hear! The food and drinks wee great, as always, and our server (Israel) was wonderful - attentive and helpful. Overall great evening and we'll continue to bring friends here.
I'd been here before back before they expanded (I believe there is another restaurant open in Lakewood and two more in the works). Back then, it felt like a unique experience and the food looked and tasted unique. But like all chain restaurants, the quality seems to go by the wayside in favor of expansion and profits. I get it, but it's unfortunate. We definitely saw a significant difference in how we were greeted, seated and served and in the quality of the food. Too bad.
Enjoyed a great lunch and a perfect avocado margarita at this location. Oliver our server gave us a nice history of the restaurant and gave us perfect recommendations.
The manager came by and welcomed us to the restaurant with a nice surprise of guacamole in a soft taco shell...delish! I enjoyed the vegetable enchilades and a side of plaintains
Meso Maya was a great experience. Judging from the large crowd, we knew we made a great choice before we went in. Food and service were excellent. It is not a place to go for a quiet dinner (there was a flurry of activity and lots of conversation), but if you are looking for some great Tex-Mex (with an emphasis on Mex), this is the place to go.
