Meso Maya - Downtown Dallas Ratings and Reviews
My family visited my sister and her husband in Dallas. We were looking for a nice Mexican restaurant to eat a late lunch. It was FANTASTIC. The food was creative and authentic. A different take on traditional Mexican cuisine with a twist of flavor profiles that were delicious. I highly recommend Meso Maya - Downtown Dallas. If you are looking for Tex-Mex this is not it .... SO MUCH BETTER!!!!
Disappointed. We were traveling through Dallas and made a special effort to allow time to go to Meso Maya. (We’d had a great experience on previous travels.). It was my daughter’s birthday and we mentioned this in our reservation note. When we arrived at the restaurant and touched base with them about the birthday they went on to tell me that they don’t provide a free dessert. No problem, glad to pay for it. However, they didn’t even mention her birthday. Also, the food came out separately, dropped off by a busier in odd places (not in front of us). They really didn’t care that we were there. Won’t be on our TO VISIT list next time in Dallas.
Best non-TexMex food in Dallas! All 3 soups are outstanding. They make their own masa and the tortillas are without peer, so ALL dishes with them...outstanding! Ceviche, guacamole and queso, all best in town. Camerones, outstanding. Great beer and tequila selection. If you are hungry for authentic Mex, eat here. If going to the uptown location, get a Res or be prepared to wait. Preston Forest location a bit better.
We had an early dinner before going to a show at the Winspear. Convenient valet parking and also free parking in the back. Our waiter was helpful and efficient. Drinks were great...good wine, beer and tequila selection. The salsa was a smoky chipotle flavor and we also started with the guacamole which was tasty. Several people in our group took the waiter's suggestion and ordered the Cochinita Pibil and several of us had the Mole Poblano enchiladas. Our mouths are watering now just remembering the food! It was excellent! The food came out quickly after we ordered which was perfect since we were going to the theater. We would definitely return!
Wonderful experience and service is always on point. They are available at all the right times. I brought three others here and they were first-timers. It exceeded expectations for them. Everything from the guacamole, to margaritas and every dish we tried. MesoMaya is as good as it gets.
Excellent food. Embarrassing service. Received one drink in 90 minutes despite repeated requests and reminders. It was a busy Friday night but unnecessarily slow service. Table was too small to fit two plates and a basket of chips. Loved the well prepared dishes.
Good, near authentic Mexican cuisine. A fun, casual option in the Uptown area. Service is great despite the crowd. Nice outside seating option. It’s sister restaurant , La Ventana (outside in the back), is also true gem. Great tacos served at the window. Very casual but cool outdoor seating area.
Parking was horrible. They brought me a dirty spoon that looked like someone and just eaten off of it. You could literally see where they had pulled it from there mouth. I can't believe it made it to my table and no one noticed it. I viewed the menu before going and decided on the budin azteca. What came to the table looked nothing like the menu pictures. It honestly made me somewhat nauseated when I first saw it. The person I was with ordered the same thing and tried hers and thought it was good. I'm not sure if she didn't want to be rude because I had suggested and taken her there for her birthday, or because we got two different versions of the dish but I was not pleased. Anyone who knows me knows that I hate the idea of wasting food, and the only time I don't finish my meal is when it's not enjoyable. Most of this dish was left on my plate. I won't be going back nor would I recommend this restaurant. It wasn't even worth mentioning to anyone else that we went. The reviews online were mixed and I should have erred on the side of caution and went to our usual hole-in-the-wall restaurant for our Mexican food.
