MesaMar Ratings and Reviews
The muted colors and hushed tones lent a relaxed but classy ambience to the restaurant. We were seated right away and our waitress was attentive without being pushy. Our entree selections were right on - tasty and tastefully presented. I wish there were more wine selections.
Upon arriving to the restaurant we were seated right away not having to wait which obviously made it very convenient knowing that it was Valentine's Day we did get to see that we wanted right in front of the window overlooking the restaurant also being able to see outside the menu was a prefix menu which is okay but was limited would definitely come back to try the regular menu
I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant. However, dinner last evening was marred by a strange incident. It was valentine's day and I was presented with a fixed menu. I asked if we could order off the menu and I was told that we could not. About ten minutes later two people sat next to us and promptly ordered off the fixed menu. Point taken.
The service was awful, The waitress would disappear for extended periods of time and from where we were seated we could not get anyone's attention without getting up and searching for an employee. Towards the end, after we had finished dinner, she brought us the desert menu and left the area for 20 minutes. She then came back two times to wait on an other of the tables in our vicinity but left for another 5 minutes each time without even looking at us. We finally got her attention on the third time she came back and asked for our bill without ordering desert just so we could get out of there.
As far as the food, I ordered the Black Cod which came out under cooked. My wife ordered the Paella and it was pretty much tasteless. Based on the temp of both of our dishes, they sat for a while before being brought out to us.
We eat out quite often and I can honestly say that we will NEVER eat at MesaMar again.
Food was amazing. From My starters to desert. Must try the Coconuts Roll, Tuna Sashimi, Crab Cakes are definitely neck and neck with the Forges. Whole fish cooked to your liking along with the Ravioli ARE AMAZING AS WELL. The desert, I forgot the name but was out of control it was topped with caramelized chopped almonds.
Great seafood dishes, but the side dishes bring the restaurant class down. Rice and beans and tostones are not what I expect at a restaurant that charges what they do. The were also out of 2 of the wines we order.... in my opinion they need to step it up. For what they offer you can go to a local Cuban restaurant.
Had a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon, wife had the hog snapper which was very tasteful and well presented. I on the other hand ordered the camarones enchilado and did not liked or enjoyed, the sauce was totally different than what an enchilado taste (I'm referring to Cuban Enchilados ) there are other varieties in central and South America. I alerted our server and she was willing to change the dish for something else but I decline and ate the shrimp with the rice but no sauce. The service was very good so was the Maracuya Moose . I've heard many good comments about mesa Mar so one bad experience does not make the restaurant a bad place. I plan to go back. We are frequent visitors to the owners former establishment FiFi on Miami Beach where we never had gone wrong.
Mesamar is generally a good restaurant but the last meal there was ok. Fish was fresh but rather bland, which frankly was a disappointment. The initial serving of sides was lukewarm. While staff was responsive in remedying the latter, we would have expected all of our food to be served at the appropriate temperature in the first place. This is not an inexpensive restaurant.
Second time went back to Miami and tool the whole family with us, we love there food. They had system problems but it was Iike they had no problems had all took care us and the side where all free. Anytime I am in Miami or anywhere near I am going to eat there.
We've been to Mesa mar many times. As in previous visits the Food and Service were very good. The only reason Ambiance was not rated very good this time was that the volume of the recorded music was very high for a restaurant. The rating for Noise Level did not provide for this, but as Open Table required an answer to all ratings I selected the highest ("Energetic"). It was not energetic, it was unpleasant.
After several visits, this was a very disappointing dinner. The service was poor to fair; the stone crabs were too cold and waiter had forgotten the mustard souse. We ordered lobster tail for our entrees and both were overcooked and dry like they had been sitting under a hot light for a long time. On the positive side, they did take the lobster tails off our bill.
We will try again to see if this was not just a fluke due to Art Basel week but it should not be an excuse.
This place is very nice but it is all about the hype. If you worried about the salt in your diet then stay away from this place. Every appetizer and entrée is over seasoned.
The service attention is very good but they forgot half my order when the entrée was served.
I would go here for happy hour or to meet up with someone for the first time. I probably won't be returning to this place. We all work hard for our money and there's too many places out there that are really good to waste your time here.
