MesaMar Ratings and Reviews
After several visits, this was a very disappointing dinner. The service was poor to fair; the stone crabs were too cold and waiter had forgotten the mustard souse. We ordered lobster tail for our entrees and both were overcooked and dry like they had been sitting under a hot light for a long time. On the positive side, they did take the lobster tails off our bill.
We will try again to see if this was not just a fluke due to Art Basel week but it should not be an excuse.
This place is very nice but it is all about the hype. If you worried about the salt in your diet then stay away from this place. Every appetizer and entrée is over seasoned.
The service attention is very good but they forgot half my order when the entrée was served.
I would go here for happy hour or to meet up with someone for the first time. I probably won't be returning to this place. We all work hard for our money and there's too many places out there that are really good to waste your time here.
This is a very nice restaurant, where the food does not quite measure up to the surroundings but still does not detract from a very enjoyable experience. Reasonably priced at the same time, the serene dining rooms with tablecloth-covered tables present an inviting destination for family celebrations. It is recommended with the caveat that going too often may elevate its deficiencies over its attributes over time.
We went for the spice menu and were surprised of the variety of dishes they offered in the appetizers, main courses and desserts. The presentation was very attractive and the flavors very tasty. Excellent value for money.
We were a party of eight and thoroughly enjoyed dinner at MesaMar. Being from the San Francisco Bay Area, I find MesaMar rivalling the “best of the best” seafood restaurants in the Bay Area. Nearly everyone in our party ordered the Miami Spice with “Catch of the Day”. The fresh fish, served whole, was excellently prepared as well as eye-catching. It was also a unique experience since a row of the same fish stared at us from a display case as we were dining … although at first I thought it was a plastic display. Not so! Overall our group experienced an elegant and friendly ambience, seafood dishes with innovative fusions of Asian/Latin flavors, and an accommodative wait staff. Our waiter Chris was super … he brought my husband a second dessert on the house when he learned how much my husband had relished his first dessert!
Loved the place. We went to celebrate my birthday and we ordered Miami Spice menu. Great options everything was delicious! Loved the Tacos. Main course was delicious and desert was excellent. The ambiance is very nice and service is very good. Will definitely come back!
We enjoyed the Miami Spice menu, and were pleasantly surprised by the variety of options for appetizer, entree and dessert. The portions were terrific, and the food was delicious. We were in the back room, and had great service, and were able to converse among the 5 of us. We all intend to return.
We came here for Miami spice and thought that the food was excellent. Especially, the scallops in pear sauce were spectacular, as well as the almond praline dessert. Other dishes were very good as well. We also loved the ambiance, the place had a very nice feel to it. The service was good, friendly. I was surprised about the wine selection. I thought this restaurant would have an excellent wine list to match its exquisite cuisine. But nothing special there, the wine you can buy at a grocery store, so that was disappointing. Also, they ran out of a lot of things. First, sea bass, then potatoes, and, finally, chocolate mousse. Also, they have an unusual way to celebrate birthdays: blast out the happy birthday song (which made us jump out of our seats in the middle of a quiet dinner) and then proceed with placing some silly hat on the head of a birthday person. I can see how some may find it fun but the whole process seemed odd and out of place. The negatives aside, I really enjoyed this restaurant and would definitely come back again.
The food and service were excellent. I had the Chilean sea bass and it was perfect. It was accompanied by grilled vegetables (the largest sliced zucchini I have ever seen!). My husband had the seafood paella and it was also very nice. I found the drinks a bit on the pricey side. My husband ordered a Black Label on the rocks and you could barely see the scotch in the glass. The Miami Spice selection is quite good and the portions are very generous. I will certainly come again and try other items on their menu.
I would love to give this restaurant a higher rating since the drinks were great and the food was tasty but the service was terribly slow. We made 4 requests for bread, each time to different servers. It took long for our orders to be taken and even longer for the food and drinks to arrive. We arrived at 7:15 (on time for our reservation) and were seated immediately. The restaurant was not very full. Our area only had about o6 of 10 tables filled of which my party sat at 3 of those tables (party of 9). It took about half an hour to recieve our drinks and 45 minutes for extra bread. The appetizers took an hour to receive. Our second round of drinks was forgotten. The main course was warm at best. One of appetizers was the coconut tuna roll. Delicious but it's 4 teeny tiny rolls, hardly an appetizer, more like a sample. I will say the food was flavorful and the drinks were delicious. The wait staff was nice, never rude with our requests just very very slow or forgetful. Not sure if they were short staffed or maybe the kitchen and the bar were short on staff but the waiting was ridiculous. Unfortunately it was bad enough for us to make it our first and LAST dining experience at MesaMar. If you try this restaurant, have a snack before you go!
