It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races.
The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for over 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.
Delicious meal, with a very knowledgeable server. There’s nothing I like better than a server who isn’t afraid to give an opinion about your order, often preventing the diner from making a mistake. And I don’t mind paying higher prices when the food is good.
Nice place, good food. Jason was great. Smaller portions.
Merrick Patio has become our “go to” for an evening out with friends, great cocktails, excellent food and lovely patio. I really could eat here every week I love it that much. We had the grouper. It was outstanding!!
My wife’s 62nd birthday
I highly recommend this place. Service is top of the line and food is excellent!
Pierre, our server was excellent. Steak and pork tenderloin was awesome. Definitely will come back and recommend it to friends
Service was impeccable with lots of southern charm. Plenty of smiles and a "what can I do for you" attitude. The food was priced right and the servings were generous. Went on a recommendation, and now I will be the "recommender". A "need to visit" restaurant in Lexington.
We loved celebrating our Anniversary here.
The fish, the pork, and the pound cake with seared caramel was spectacular. We want to come back soon and experience the patio. The flowers were lovely as well as the elegant decor without feeling stuffy. Our new favorite Lexington restaurant!
Garlaine and Emmett
Food and service were excellent, would highly recommend to anyone celebrating an anniversary or wanting to eat at a high quality restaurant
Merrick is one to the best in Lexington, always! A pleasant dining experience, great wait staff and the food great.
The restaurant is elegant, the service great. I ordered one of the evening specials, prime rib. It was very good but my husband ordered the filet mignon and it was the best that we've ever had.
Dinner at Merrick Inn with good friends was delightful, as always! The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. We were all extremely satisfied with our evening there.
Fsbulous food, service, etc made it a perfect evening with family to celebrate my 70th birthday.
The food and service was excellent . All 5 of us enjoyed the selection and quality of our meal. Our server was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. Everyone at the Merrick Inn was friendly and very willing to help out. We will be going back again when we find ourselves in Lexington.
Enjoyed our first time at Merrick Inn. Our server was a very nice older woman that obviously knew a lot about the restaurant. Her recommendations were very informative and spot on. Food was excellent. Especially enjoyed the seafood bisque. This was the first of many future visits.
Everything was perfecto except the noise level. TOOOOOOO LOUD. At times I could not hear one thing my friend said! She sat across from me at a four top table in the main dining room.
Merrick Inn is my favorite restaurant in Lexington. Eat on my birthday there every year. Have no plans of changing that.
I hate to give them a 4 star because the food and service were AMAZING! However, we had a reservation for 7:30pm and were not seated until after 8pm with no apology or clear explanation. We were just continually told that they were "setting up our table". That was disappointing, but the ambiance and surrounding of the rich history of horse racing all through the Merrick Inn was wonderful. We had a great Derby Day and Graduation Party and really enjoyed the visit!
We were celebrating our daughter’s engagement. Everything was stellar as usual!
Loved this place. Food was amazing; possibly the best fillet mignon we've ever had. Moved into the sports bar area after dinner, and enjoyed that atmosphere too. This is a high class establishment, but not a stuffy environment; and while prices are not cheap, they are not ridiculous either. We all agreed we would go again.
Dining experience , service, food were all great. Will visit again.
Excellent food, excellent atmosphere, excellent service!
We have been coming to Merrick for years and it is always excellent.
We visit your restaurant every year around Derby time. Food and service has always been outstanding and this time was no exception. Phenomenal food, generous portions and wonderful friendly service!
Overall, this was an excellent restaurant! The food, wine selection, and service were top notch. My husband and I were visiting from out of town; we would definitely go back again if back in Lexington.
When I made the reservation I mentioned that it was for a special 80th birthday. I was told that the birthday person would receive a complimentary desert since they didn’t do cakes. I was charged for the desert and when I questioned the waiter he said they did not offer that so I paid for the desert
Wed special was amazing!
Amazing as always!
This was out first time at the Merrick Inn and we will definitely will be back!
The food was fantastic!
It was great!!
Our service and food were very good! The hostess and our waiter knew that we were celebrating and anniversary and wished us a happy one many times. Our waiter was very attentive and even brought a plate with “Happy 3rd anniversary” written on it in chocolate. I had the filet which was very yummy and my husband tried the Margherita chicken and enjoyed that as well. Overall great experience!
Everything was outstanding!
Tina was our server. Everything was great. The friends with me hadn’t eaten at Merrick Inn for several years and thought it was “great”. They said they had forgotten how good it was. Thanks for the great experience.
Our server was excellent. It was extremely cold and he tried blocking our vent etc. finally had them turn off the air it was 55 outside air was on full force. Thank you Jason for making it comfortable!! Meal was wonderful I got the medallion special. Love the champagne dressing! My husbands broccoli side dish needed to be steamed a little longer. Other than that it was a pleasant evening even with the keenland crowd. Louder than usual.
We arrived early. (Table we sat at later was visibly ready when we arrived, but host wouldn’t seat us until our reservation time 35 minutes later) So, we went into the bar for a drink and appetizer. The firecracker shrimp was awesome and the bourbon slush, well, tasted so good that one was not enough. Dinner was spot on! Daily special was a beef medallions with crab topped and asparagus and the tomato casserole and broccoli hollandaise were perfect. The ribeye with mushrooms was great, too, with a wedge salad and redskin potatoes. Regrettably we had to pass on dessert - too full by then (but the dessert offerings were worthy if room was left so plan ahead) Amy was the perfect server, very smart with the menu and her suggestions were accepted and appreciated.
Great food, patio was fun!
Old school but updated and every bit as tasty as the cool new places we normally prefer. Not cheap but value unbelievable - you can get a side order of a humongous juicy delicious piece of fried chicken for under $5 - not much more than the Colonel? The rest of the food was very good as well (did not have dessert). The restaurant is large on a lovely property with several different venues (e.g. bars, indoors/outdoors, more formal) - something for every occasion. Clearly family run - service not speedy, but warm and attentive. FOR BOURBON OBSESSIVES - my multi-year quest for Pappy stopped here. Merrick's bourbon buyer/expert Dexter spent quality and quantity time with us coming up with a moderate-price Van Winkle flight of 3, including Pappy's 15, for $64. They would have done the same thing at the high end (15/20/23 years) for $192. And generous - for our table of two couples, we ordered a flight of 3 which they split into 6 glasses which each had close to a shot. The check for our table of 4, including the Pappy's flight, a cocktail each, 2 appetizers, 4 mains, and 2 fried chicken sides was...$225. Ridiculously low, right? This was an amazing start for our Bourbon Trail trip. Cheers!
It was a wonderful experience. Old world charm, Perfectly prepared meals. Will be a regular stop from now on when I travel to Lexington
This was a very fine dining experience. Our server Katie was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. The service was understated and at time did we feel rushed. The food choices were outstanding and the portions quite large. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in the area.
Again, everything was perfect 😘🐎!
