Great food, wonderful view of the harbor. Portions were on the small side, but freshness & quality were great. Extensive wine list, larger than expected. Service was extremely attentive.
Very nice, just wish it won’t close
Too bad tomorrow, Saturday, February the 15th, is its last day
I would recommend Meritage to anyone wanting a special dinner out. However, it is very sad to report that the restaurant is now out of business.
Lovely as always!
Unfortunately this fantastic restaurant is closing for good this evening. What a shame. They claim to need yet another room for functions. How can one have a five star hotel with no prime restaurant? The Sea Grille, although very good for what it is, does not merit a premiere rating. We, who frequent this restaurant, a short walk from our residence, are really disappointed. I assume the figures warrant this change, but to us, it is a true loss.
We have always lived Meritage. Had to go one last time before it closed.
I was so sorry to hear that this restaurant is closing its doors! Glad I got to experience the Vineyard to Table menu, the refined atmosphere and the impeccable service!
Unfortunately Meritage will be closing on Feb 15th. It's been a great run and some amazing meals over the years. It has been a showcase of Chef Bruce's culinary creativity. He will still be responsible for all the food at the hotel and of course the amazing Wine Festival, so there will still be opportunities but this was his platform.
Love Meritage. So sad it’s closing.
One of the best places in the city. Outstanding waterfront view. A perfect atmosphere to celebrate an intimate family event such as an anniversary or an adult's birthday.
Incredible experience! They made my girlfriend’s 30th birthday a night to remember! Jean was our waiter and he was fantastic! Kind, attentive, and very knowledgeable. Would definitely dine with him again. Thank you Meritage!
The meal we enjoyed there New Year's Eve was seriously overpriced. The food was quite agreeable but not especially creative, nor was it sumptuous. Enjoyed a fine bottle of expensive but not overpriced wine.
I made a reservation weeks in advance for 8:30 PM on New Years Eve. There was a $50/person cancellation penalty for cancellations within 48 hours of arrival which seemed very fair given the holiday. I arrived early (8:10), was told my table wasn't ready, so I went to the bar downstairs and came back at 8:30 and was promptly seated at a nice window table near the restaurant entrance. A single-page menu greeted me on the table, describing a 5-course fixed price dinner at $225/person (w/o wine pairings). I had expected to pay a lot for dinner but not that much. Both my wife and I had reviewed the menus online before arriving and there was never anything posted about a special, limited, extra-cost menu for 31 Dec. We did come to an accommodation with the management (they served us shorted meal for a shorted price) but it was an uncomfortable meal and its unlikely that I would return.
paid for vine to table "chef's dinner" - food was unimpressive and lackluster. "lazy" wine paired was cheap and did not enhance the food nor did the food enhance the wine. Was overpriced for the food. Everything at this hotel was top notch so this meal was a huge let down. They did "comp" one meal - as this was a birthday celebration let down but I would not eat hear again - not with all the wonderful options in Boston...
Delicious food, knowledgeable and friendly staff, beautiful space and views of Boston Harbor - you will want for nothing.
I must first start with the fact that the review is offered after a long travel day in which our planned 3:30 p.m. arrival in Boston on Christmas afternoon was delayed until 8:30 p.m. thanks to Delta and the personnel at the new New Orleans airport where the jet bridge could not be pulled from the plane for our non-stop flight to Boston. Instead, we sat on the plane for a little less than 2 hours, and then had to take a flight to Atlanta and then Boston, and rush in a car to make the final 9 p.m. seating for Christmas dinner, so we were exhausted.
The food was great. The dining room was nice with a wonderful view of the harbor. The service was ok. I am giving it 3 stars because of the length of time between courses. While it was after 9 p.m. on Christmas night, and the restaurant was winding down, for the $500+ meal for two (with wine), one would expect the service to be perfect. The servers were great and attentive, but the length of time between each course was too long, and I had to get up from the table to request salt before my main course got cold, because I could not spot a server. Again, our long day of travel may have had an influence on our experience, so we do take that into account. If the length of time between servings had not been so long, we would have given the service 4 or 5 stars. I would return and give this restaurant another try. Our primary server was nice, fun, polite, knowledgeable and gracious, and the other server was equally as wonderful.
Lovely experience and environment! Beautifully prepared and served holiday dinner!
Expensive but delicious food and excellent service.
This place was amazing. Our first time here. The food was second to none. The service was first class. a lot of thought went into the experience at this place. Highly recommended. Five Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Good service good environment. But food is not impressive.
Very enjoyable evening. My guests were hard of hearing and eating out is often a challenge, but not at Meritage. The waitstaff were perfectly attentive, and the food was excellent. I recommend the haddock.
I had booked a table for 4 people at Meritage Restaurant for Thanksgiving. I had relatives from overseas and the dinner was something that we were all looking forward to. I firmly believe that the food was one of the worst experiences I had in my life. The dishes were described as fine cuisine yet they were certainly well below average. For example the starter dish of salmon was 4 pieces of smoked salmon and a salad in the middle. The salmon could have well been a packaged smoked salmon from the supermarket. The sauce was very little with no particular taste. The main course of the Turkey was cold, the gravy sauce (also cold) was unacceptable it was like was prepared from the instant packaging from a market and the bread stuffing was slightly burned and tasteless. Some grilled vegetables were as they were just tossed on a pan and cooked with again no flavor or freshness. Finally, the desert the chocolate plate had no particular taste it was a mix of flavors not to be well combined all together. All 4 of us left the desert uneaten and a great part of the turkey dish with the stuffing was left. I felt embarrassed taking my family members out in this special day and paying a lot of money (125pp) for what at the end felt like a scam.
Enjoyed the Thanksgiving menú with wine pairings. The mushroom bisque was the high point, which was paired with an “orange wine” (pinot grigio).
Soup was poured into plate when waiter knew diner was absent from the table. Poor table-waiting etiquette. Only luke warm by the time she returned. In fact, everyone's main course was barely warm as well. Mashed potatoes incredibly salty, everyone's comment and borderline uneatable. No cranberries on Thanksgiving? Service largely absent and inattentive (but friendly). Great ambiance. Very expensive for what we got. What happened Daniel?
My wife has cooked Thanksgiving Dinner for 45 years. This was intended to be a special treat, This was price fixe 4 course Thanksgiving Dinner at $125 per person. The 1st course was a fantastic mushroom bisque which was silky and rich. Second was a tagliatelle with pesto, which was unremarkable and barely warm. The entree course of turkey was 2 small slices with dried out date stuffing all of which was only warm. The dessert was a deconstructed apple strudel which was small cubes of apples with a thimble size portion of crumble. Not what I would expect for Meritage especially at a total price of with tip of $840 for 4 people. Very disappointing.
Thanksgiving dinner “Average” ..... if it were diner food. Truly unremarkable, tasteless, no flavor turkey. Bland. Cost $475 for 3 people with no alcohol. Very disappointing as it’s suppose to have a Michelin Star. Service terrible. Waiter unable to bring seltzer water with cranberry until after first course and then failed to bring two. Never asked if we wanted coffee. Unhappy.
Thanksgiving. Mushroom bisque was awesome. Turkey wasn’t great. Dry and gravy was just ok. Short ribs were excellent.. second course was ok. Dessert choices and flavors wasn’t good. Had a nice time with family and ambience. For 800 with tip for 4 people, should have been a lot better.
Fabulous cuisine in a elegant setting with unmatched service.
The food was spectacular, and the presentation of everything was beautiful. The staff was very friendly. I definitely need to come again.
We have dined at this fabulous restaurant for many years. Most recently, quite frequently. It just gets better and better if that's possible. From the ever changing menu and amazing wine list, to the staff, ambiance, service, and sommelier, we are pleased with the total experience. It is virtually impossible to get five stars from me, but Meritage fills the bill.
My one request - please return those wonderful boxed truffles we so looked forward to as we leave.
The attention to detail, service and thoughtful additions to the meal ( champagne toast for birthday celebration) mini chocolates after dinner, along with a spice rub take away when leaving was very much appreciated. The is just as lovely as the view :)
The food was not great. Everything else was wonderful
Awesome. Server was great, food was amazing. Impressive to say the least....
This restaurant came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. Will be eating there again before we leave Boston.
My wife and I are Gluten and Dairy Free. Meritage accommodated us without any issues. They altered their dishes to meet our food preferences. Service was excellent. We took my mother here for her 89th birthday celebration and Meritage made the entire evening very special. For this special evening the pricing was very reasonable. The night before I had a business dinner at Capital Grill on Boylston Street, which was more expensive than dinner at Meritage. Highly Recommended.
It is a good restaurant. Service is good. harbor view is very good.
Everything from the hostess at the entrance to food runners were amazing! Food was very good, small portions but very filling! We got a glass of champagne on the house because we were celebrating a birthday which was amazing. Very happy with Meritage , definitely will be coming back!
