Meritage Restaurant + Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant was disappointing, unfortunately. My fiance and I visited Meritage for our 6-year anniversary, we decided to go with a "price fix menu", which was a 4-course meal for $85 per person, we declined the $45 extra p/p for wine pairing. There was also a "full experience" menu at $125 p/p or $195 with wine pairing and a la carte menu.
- I mentioned my anniversary on the reservation and the staff congratulated us upon arrival and on our dessert.
- The staff was polite and professional
- Restrooms were cleaned and nice
- They couldn't make a pear martini, but they made an okay blackberry martini for me
- My fiance ordered the Basil Vodka martini and he didn't like it, so they took it back and removed it off of the bill
- It was about 85 degrees F on our table, one of the staff members confirmed that the heat zone was set like that. On a good note, the heat was adjusted.
- Our waiter was terrible, he was not paying attention to our table...
- It took 20 minutes to take our drink order
- We got drinks and bread/butter 30 minutes after we arrived
- Our first course arrived approximately 45 minutes after we arrived and like I said before, the food was just okay... The Peruvian scallops were my least favorite, they were gooey and blend, the octopus with citrus and chorizo broth was good, the lobster was okay, the poached pear was just too sweet. My fiance had the Alaskan King crab, which was very good, the truffle cannelloni- rich but good, the lobster, and 70% chocolate, also rich and very filling.
This restaurant was not worth $300 for two (includes tip). Overall, I was not impressed at all, I've had way better food at The Bancroft or Capital Grill for half that. I will not come back to Meritage.
This was Christmas Eve four course dinner for two with wine pairings optional. Service was perfect. A class act. (The customer is always right at this establishment.) The waiter was extremely knowledgeable about all the wines and dishes. The only part of the entire meal that was not excellent was the bread. Three kinds were offered; the Boston brown bread was dry and cold, the others were fresh and warm. All of the four courses, for both of us, were delicious, wonderfully prepared, visually appealing. Tables far apart, quiet, and optimal for private conversation. Expensive and worth it. We have been here many times for special occasions and will return soon.
There are few places in Boston where you can have an exceptional, leisurely meal and feel that you have a privacy in the middle of a restaurant. The food and the ambiance are top notch, and the service should be considered the benchmark for a fine dining experience. Bravo!
We are disappointed that Meritage changed their menu format from a small plate / large plate option for all menu items to the traditional appetizer / main setup. Their creative chef induces a desire to try many things, but that doesn't work so well now. The new menu will discourage future visits for us.
A true surprise that surpassed our expectations. Each item that was placed in front of us was a true delight and the price for such a delicious fine dining experience was excellent value. I will be back for sure and be recommending to everyone. Insider tip, try any of the fish they have on offer, it will be cooked to perfection!
Came here for my Fiancé 's Birthday. Wasn't expecting much in terms of vegetarian options but the server and the chef both surprised us by accommodating our request. The food options were amazing and the sommelier even helped us decide on our wine based on our tastes.
We aren't very fancy people and were nervous about this place. But the staff is really kind and immediately made us feel really special which is a great positive in any restaurant we visit.
I would definitely recommend this place for special occasions.
Outstanding experience. We were there for my mother’s 75th birthday and the entire staff helped make this a first class celebration. The food was beyond excellent and my Mom commented that dinner at Meritage May have been the best gift I had given her in a very long time!!!!
Wow! Truly superb service, food, presentation and wine list. This was an exceptional dining experience that will go down as among the best in my already blessed life. This is not a place for young kids (chicken fingers and Mac n cheese are not options on the menu) but a great place for an overdue romantic dinner with your spouse or business dinner to impress a refined client.
One of the most enjoyable dinners out ever. And we've been eating out for a long time! Service was unintrusive, not rushed, but attentive. Food was outstanding and accompanying wine flights on the mark. The waterfront view is the perfect accompaniment to the food, service, and decor.
Truly, a wonderful evening.
Took daughter and grandchild to Saturday Night dinner at one of top High level restaurants in Boston. They all loved it! Food was excellent and service outstanding as usual. New menu including pasta with truffles, and Octopus appertizers were very good. New main course of Rabbit was very good and probably only one of few places you can get it in Boston. Tenderloin, halibut and ribs were also very well done.
Only slight negative were the wine prices - quite high. But as my grandson said, “ this is some place special and I’d love to come back”
This really was an exceptional restaurant. The food was creative made from excellent ingredients, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Not a place for a casual or cheap night out but somewhere to chose if you want a special night out. The service was exceptional and the staff were really experts in the cuisine being offered, attentive but not overbearingly, friendly and helpful. The dishes were creative but not pretentious and we came away feeling that we really had experienced something special. Rare praise from my wife and I!
Our dinner at Meritage was overall quite delightful: the service was impeccable, the environment very nice (especially our view of the waterfront), and the menu was quite interesting and often whimsical. The only downside was dessert, which we had heard would be worth staying for but turned out to be disappointing. The menu was also quite expensive, especially compared to other high-caliber dinners we've had in the Boston area (no doubt we were paying for the location as well as the food/service).
Meritage is an outstanding restaurant, with beautiful views of the Boston Harbor. The wine-themed food pairings are well concieved and many are quite playful (.e.g, the PB&J Foie Gras). The wine list is extensive and offers many options at different budget levels. The sommeliers are quite knowledgeable and offer excellent advice when deciding which wines to pair with the menu options.
We went to this restaurant for our 50th anniversary. Our dinner was fantastic as well as the service. Had the pb&j foie gras as an apertizer and we both had the short ribs for the main course. The attention to details was impressive. Great wine list and the view from the booths of the harbor is lovely. Made for a very special night for us.
The Waygu filet was excellent. The vegetables were cooked perfectly.
The chef's pre-meal pallet cleansing bites were not very good...the texture of the caviar jam was NOT pleasing.
The wine sommelier was VERY SLOW and the restaurant was not half full on the evening that we dined. We had to request wine refills which is not typical for a restaurant of this type. I expected far superior wine service.
The atmosphere is beautiful. The views are perfect.
Overall, it is good; but don't expect too much.
