Meritage - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
As others had noted, freight train tracks RIGHT next to the building can be noisy when trains roll by, which was frequent. We were on the second floor and the noise was noticeable.
Live music was nice, when we were seated close to the musician I was afraid we would not be able to talk, but he was good, and not overwhelmingly loud.
Food was great - service sometimes attentive, sometimes MIA, but always cheerful.
We will come back again!
We came for the prime rib and they were sold out by 7:00 pm. We were placed at a table by the kitchen door which was distracting. Were were told we had the best waiter to wait over 10 minutes before we were asked if we wanted a cocktail. We asked the hostess and she took our drink order. There was a group of 8 by us but not packed at all. We ordered our meal at 7:45 and received it at 9:00. We were not offered a complementary drink or appetizer and when we questioned the wait we were told that they just served a party of 90 upstairs and that is why we waited so long. This was unacceptable. The food was good when it arrived I must say. Also we drive to the old location to see the building sign stating it was For Sale. Open Table did not notify us the location changed. We had friends meeting us and we called them and they told us where to go. Not a very enjoyable night!!!
Overall we enjoyed the dining experience. Our waiter was friendly and informative although I never got the coffee I ordered with dessert. I had the fish special which was served with rice and fresh grilled carrots. It was very good. My husband had the scallops, also with rice and carrots. The scallops, unfortunately, were seated with too much salt and herbs. We advisement waiter who said he would tell the chef but there was no offer of a fresh dish. The triple berry pie was excellent. The wine list was good and the white sangria was delightful.
We will certainly go again. Just won't order scallops.
It was a beautiful summer Sunday afternoon so we decided to take advantage of the patio. We had dinned at the Meritage before and were aware of the noise of the trains passing. We were not prepared for the frequency and the noise level outside. We will return because the fish specials are excellent but will probably avoid the patio in the future.
Overall, our experience was delightful. The food was fantastic, the service was terrific and the ambiance was enjoyable. We like watching the trains pass as we eat. The red sangria was most delicious! The only negative was the Meritage version of a Moscow Mule, made with Woodford Reserve. Though the presentation was beautiful, It was rather tasteless and watery.
We love The Meritage. I have to admit that I prefer their old location a little more as it was smaller and better ambience. The new location is considerably larger and less intimate but they have done a great job in the larger space.
We enjoyed their prime rib as did our guests and it was excellent. I do think they should put the information on the specials on the website as I had to call to find out that they did have prime rib on the menu for Saturday night.
This is a great place for a special meal.
We had a lovely dinner, and unexpectedly caught their seafood 3 course meal deal, which really was a great deal. I tried the flight of wines to go with the dinner, and thought they were excellent. The only less than glowing comment I have is the wine flights did not exactly keep up with each food course, but our server was very gracious about it and had the bartender top off the last glass of wine.
Food and ambiance were as good as prior experience. We ate outdoors for a different atmosphere and it was pleasant even with the expected four trains rolling through during dinner...it is part of the uniqueness of the place. Service was OK; we suspect the server was new because she was nice, but not up to expectations for knowledge of beer on tap offerings and forgetting some requests. Other than that she was pleasant and accommodating.
We go to this restaurant almost weekly in some cases. We recommend asking for Matthew He is a wonderful waiter. Well worth asking for ! Who says you can't go out to eat and have a healthy meal? Not me. I am a health conscience person. I get healthy and delicious meals at Meritage. Hope
To see you there. Gail
Our waiter was rude, insulting one of my guests on several occasions. I tried to get him to lighten up and by the end of our meal he was better, I thought, until he brought the books with our checks an TOSSED them on the table in front of each of us. My friend, he was so rude to, a very easy going lady, left very little tip. The waiter has to be really bad for me to leave less than 20% but... I was aware that he had many duties that day. He was taking care of the bar, answering the phone and waiting tables but being over worked is still not a reason to be rude. What makes this even worse is I was there for lunch the day before and had a WONDERFUL young man as our waiter who was exceptional kind, a terrific waiter and so knowledgeable of the menu and specials. I returned yesterday because of the experience I had the day before. I have dined there often, but I am having second thoughts.
Went to Meritage once before. New location is awesome. Sat outside on a wonderful night with my family. Matt, our server, was a pleasure and I have to mention, he had just had oral surgery for his wisdom teeth. A+ for the effort. Explained the menu and specials and checked back often to refill drinks and clear the table. I would DEFINITELY recommend Meritage for family occasions, dates or any time you want a wonderful dining experience. Outdoor dinimg was a plus as it was a beautiful evening and the atmosphere and nearby historic train depot we an added bonus
We went to Meritage for our anniversary. Through my reservation I let them know that it was our 25th and that we had a tradition of sharing blueberry pie every year. When we arrived, they treated us like royalty! The food was amazing! Appetizers, salad, Prime Rib (to die for!) and the biggest loaded baked potato I have ever seen! When our waiter asked us if we would like dessert, I asked what they had, and he informed us that their pastry chef had made a blueberry pie just for us! It honestly was THE BEST blueberry pie we have had in 25 years. I wish we would have known about Meritage sooner - amazing place, and it's actually fun to watch the trains go by. We only saw 2 while we were there for about 2 hours, but it made for great conversation. The inside seating is comfortable and beautifully decorated. There is also outside seating which looked inviting and had a more casual vibe - something for everyone. The wait staff and kitchen staff are amazing. Please take the time to find Meritage if you aren't from that part of the City - it's a gem!
Waitress and all servers very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We were expecting something a little more reserved, but were quite happy with the music. The noise level, however, in the upstairs restaurant was more for bar drinking than it was for a relaxing evening out with visiting family and a desire to hear all that was being said at a table for six.
Was most disappointed with the prime rib that was so highly touted by the waitress - VERY fatty. The baked potato with the meal was very good and the peach dessert excellent. The scallops were good, but not what was expected and would not be ordered again.
All in all not the best evening out and not a place that I would attend again for a group of older adults.
