About Merengue Restaurant
Welcome to Merengue!
Every day we serve to a very diverse ethnicity of clientele, who through our dishes, experience something that we have called “A Dominican Dining Experience”, which takes them back to our roots. We were the first Latino restaurant to have delivery service. The first to have a variety of dishes as daily specials, plus an extensive menu full of Dominican and International dishes; and the first, to have a professional Catering Service that has become the most prestigious and renowned in the state of Massachusetts.
We have catered from the State House to the most famous Universities and exclusive function rooms, like “The City View Room”, located at the observatory in the John Hancock building in the City of Boston, where dignitaries, personalities and famous artists have enjoyed our food. Come experience what everyone else is talking about...at Merengue!

Merengue Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Great food my only complain was the host, she was rude, they didnt ask us if we want something to drink. We got there around 9:40 pm and she told us that the restaurant its almost closing , but you guys have reservation for 9:45 that means that kitchen should be open past 10pm but other than that love this place
Gladys was extremely warm, sweet, patient and professional. Service was quick, but not too quick, so we were able to truly relax and enjoy. Live music was an unexpected treat. The singer sounded professional, my friend literally could not believe it was not a recording! A neighboring table was celebrating a BDay, and the staff & singer sung to her in English & Spanish. Nice homey touch. I paid with a Gilt voucher, and they were accommodating without any issue whatsoever. We felt we were treated like VIP.
I am Dominican, and I have to say that Merengue is the best Dominican restaurant in the Boston area. We just celebrated my husband's birthday and the staff was very professional and service was great. The food was amazing....well presented, flavorful and plenty! You get the Latin flavor as soon as you walk into the restaurant. It is beautifully decorated with authentic Dominican decor. If you are looking for a great experience, you will not be disappointed.
First impressions are welcoming. The hostess made us wait with no explanation for our table even though many tables were open. The food was good, the service faire, though very slow. It was nearly impossible to get water.
The seafood paella was well seasoned but mostly rice and the bits of seafood way overcooked. Tre leche cake and yuca frieds delicious.
The big downer of the evening was the live music which was blasted from one corner of the room, two tables away from us, effectively making it impossible to converse with our table. A request to bring down the music was turned down. The music itself was nice, but we came to enjoy food and friends, not for a concert. That very much dampened the night.
Four of us dined here. We ordered enough food for 6 or 7. The items all 4 of us agreed were excellent:
Some liked and some did not:
Spanish Rice and Beans,
....just kidding! The waitress took our order three times: when we came in, then after the fryer broke, then again after it was fixed. We waited 40-50 minutes for dry fish and a chicken that was smothered in so much sauce, you couldn't see it. It was very underwhelming and I definitely do not plan on going back anytime soon.
Diamond in the ruff! THe whole red snapper in coconut sauce is a must try. Everything was affordable. The drinks were stiff and delicious. The service was definitely slow.. very Dominican. So if you are on a time crunch, this is not the place for you. However, if you want to kickback and sip on a cocktail while your dinner is served up, this is a fun place. Great music. Fun, colourful ambience. I will definitely go back.
this was our second time at Merengue. The food was just as tasty and plentiful as we remembered (oh the Mofongo and Fried Yucca... So good). However, the service was slow and unfocused. Our waitress forgot our fried yucca, we flagged another waitress (20 minutes later) who said she would put in the order... we never did get that yucca. There were 3 missed drink orders as well and our water glasses were often empty. All that being said - we'll still be back.
Everyone should escape the standard fare and reach out to experience life and food. The Merengue Restaurant is just that experience. It is comfort food from the Dominican Republic. Don't let the location deter you because you will miss something special. I'm making plans to another visit soon.
