Mercury often goes unnoticed (in my opinion) but it is one of the best chop houses in Fort Worth.
We are long time customers. Easter Sunday was a tad disappointing. The advertised special menu for Easter included prime rib. They opened at 11:00 am, and were scheduled to stay open until 10:00 pm. Our reservation was for 1:00pm. We arrived at 12:45. They were already out of prime rib when we got there--a serious disappointment to two thirds of our party. Also they have trimmed back their beer offerings: basically, they carry name brands from big American brewers (convenience store beers), and one regional IPA (although the IPA is on tap, for which, kudos). No NA beer (they used to have Kaliber from Guinness). Also, they added a $2 upcharge for substituting asparagus for the mixed vegetables that came with my entree. For that I received TWO stalks of asparagus. This place has always been pricey, but...really? All the food we had was good--not "Wow, that's spectacular," just really good. I know the complaints I've listed are fairly nit-pickey, but at $180 before tip for three people, only one of which was drinking (a single glass of wine), there shouldn't be anything to complain about.
It's gotten to the point that we have only been going to Mercury Chop House for special days like Easter. The past two or three visits, we have skipped the special menu and ordered from the regular menu--at greatly increased expense--because there was something about the set special menu that we didn't want. At this point, I think we may look elsewhere for a special occasion venue. It's not that there's anything terribly wrong with Mercury Chop House, it's just that there are other, more glitch-free and equal (or better) value places around with similar or better quality food.
I was planning to propose and concerned on time. I notified the restaurant beforehand and everyone from the valet, waitress, and cooks were great and instrumental in getting us in and out with great food and service! They made the night great.
Our small party of 6 selected this restaurant to dine before Bass Hall performance. Everything was excellent. The Server was great. Took notice of our time frame and delivered superbly. Highly recommend this restaurant
Service is stellar. Food is exceptional!
Great food with consistent quality.
Meets expectations all the time
Mercury Chophouse has a very interesting history, which you should look up before you go. Before I start everything was very good, my lack of stars is due to one thing. I had a reservation for Friday at 7pm. Peak business hours, wr were seat quickly and ordered cocktails, and myself and one other ordered the 20oz. Ribeye. A few moments after the server took our order, she returns to tell us... sorry no more ribeyes. At 7pm on a Friday? Being forced eat the NY Strip which was decent, but not what I was looking forward to. I don’t think I would return because the way things were handled was a bit amatureish in my opinion.
Perfect spot for party of 12 for birthday celebration! Delicious food! Super nice but not stuffy. Wait staff was excellent. Gave great recommendations and very engaging. Will definitely go back!
We really liked our visit to this restaurant. We took other’s advice and asked for a table upstairs and Michael as server. These worked out well. The food was good and so was the service. We were looking for a good meal but at a price less than that in the high-priced steak restaurant. Mercury Chophouse fit the bill.
Great food, the cordon blue chicken was amazing, followed by lava cake for dessert. Wow!
Tables were too close to each other and I kept getting bumped by the people behind me as they got up and the wait staff as they tried to slip in between the chairs
Great restaurant and the owner Zak is an interesting character.
We were on a mini vacation this weekend. Made reservations for dinner . Reviews were underwhelming on Yelp and Open Table, so I was a bit worried. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Beautiful restaurant with nice ambiance. Service was excellent and very attentive. Food was excellent! Steak was from Allen Brothers, tops! Reasonable prices. Not sure what the bad reviews were about. We had a great experience ! Highly recommend it!
Our server, Jeff, was fantastic and the food was delicious. Also, the piano player was very good and set a fun mood.
I was told the restaurant was hit or miss. I will say the food was really good. I ordered the swordfish and it was excellent. The service was awful. With a restaurant in an area tying to compete with other higher end restaurants, I would expect more professionalism. Our server seemed very overwhelmed and rarely checked on us as we waited over and hour for food to get to the table. Even rolled her eyes at me when I asked when our food be served. I probably won't go back.
Took a date here for Valentines Day. Certainly an extremely busy evening for any restaurant and I’m taking that into account as I write this review. Service was very slow. Received our dinner salad before we received our cocktails. My date ordered the tuna and I ordered the pepper crusted New York sirloin. We both felt the pepper overpowered the entire meal. Order the jalapeño cheese grits and they were very good. Place was very loud and we had problem conversing over the noise in the restaurant.
Experience was amazing. Food, service, and atmosphere are great. Strongly recommend to anyone.
Great dinner as always! Jaffar was on point as usual! This is a great little hidden gem in Fort Worth. Highly recommended!
The food was amazing as always, service was spot on, Michael is amazing. We had a fabulous time , wonderful food and a great dining experience. Our glasses were never empty and the timing between courses was perfection. This is the place for dining.
Fantastic food! Jaffar was awesome and took great care of us!
Valentines day
Went for a Valentine's Day dinner. We ordered the swordfish. Good atmosphere and service. Live music was great background, not overpowering. The risotto was great but the fish was poorly done. Rubbery and overcooked and just not right. To their credit, they comped the dinner without being asked. Good customer care. We'll be back and give them another try.
What a great dinner for Valentines Day. The service was over the top as was the fresh made bread. The had the filet and the bone in ribeye, both were cooked as ordered. We will definitely be back!
We made reservations for our anniversary and had our best friends join us. Somehow we completely lucked out and ended up with the entire restaurant to ourselves until about desert time, and 1 couple came in. Our waiter/bar tender was awesome, made a mai tai for my husband who said it was the best he has had so far. He cut up with us, took excellent care of us, and we ABSOLUTELY LOVED our meal as usual. It was our friends first time and they LOVED it as well! Always fantastic!! Thanks for a fabulous 21 year celebration for us as well as the amazing molten chocolate cake on the house that said Happy Anniversary!
We went for a Valentines dinner and it was fabulous. I had the tuna mignon and it’s the best tuna steak I’ve ever had! My wife got the grill scallops and she said it was flavored perfectly. The wait staff was perfect and very attentive. Will return for more dinners to come.
This was our first visit and it is definitely going to be a place we visit again. Our server was pleasant and very helpful. Answered all our menu questions with experience. The food was fantastic and worth the price. We were able to talk without having to shout at each other. Would say this was one a gem of a place to dine again!
The lava cake was burned on one end. Overall it was ok, but really worth the price.
They didn’t recognize or note it was a birthday dinner
This was our first time in the new location.... great atmosphere... love the piano and singing... it is small... we were sorted in the corner by the bathroom.. not exactly where we wanted to be.. but the live music made up for it! The two people singing and playing piano was amazing! Our server was very attentive and funny... food is always amazing here. Not the typically Fort Worth steakhouse... with the New York style... Recommend you try it! Will be back!
The service was friendly but excessively slow. The scallops were under cooked and it took forever to get drink refills. Not planning on returning.
Food and wait staff were exceptional. Will definately be back!
My dining experience at Mercury was excellent! I booked reservations for two for dinner on New Years Eve and we had a great time, great meal, and great experience. The filet minion was cooked to perfection and was just the right portion size. The baked Mac N' Cheese was delicious! Live music, a piano player, started playing around 9pm and was a great end to our dining experience!
Normally its a perfect 10. Not Christmas Day ........
Delicious Christmas lunch. Great special menu option as well as regular menu choices.
Food was delicious.Service was excellent, biggest problem was the restroom was disgusting. Our table was in the basement, which was nice that our large party had plenty of room. However, there was only one bathroom (which wasn’t a problem) it was dirty for such a nice place.
We had mixed feelings concerning our recent visit to Mercury. It was our first time to be at the new location. It's great that it has a separate bar area and the main dining area is beautiful. They are guilty of the "get as many tables as the room will hold" idea in lieu of "get as many tables as are comfortable for our guests". Just TOO close together. Guests need to be able to move their chairs without fear of hitting another guests/server and guests need to be able to converse quietly with some level of privacy.
The food on the main menu was superb. The Christmas meal was disappointing in that, for 50.00, there was VERY little turkey and the ham was not stellar.
The server was extremely helpful, well-trained, and polite. We did have a problem with the bill in that we were told that the 50.00 included a small, house salad along with tea or coffee. When the bill was presented, there was a hefty charge for both. When we pointed it out to him, he apologized and said it was an over-site and he removed the salad, but not the 3.50 coffee. These are problems you don't want to deal with when wanting to enjoy a meal out.
have dined at Chop House for many years, previously very happy, however, since change of venue, much less satisfied. Booked table for 8 for Christmas Eve well in advance, when we arrived, we were initially seated in a cold basement, extra chairs stacked along the walls, TERRIBLE ambiance. Very, very shocked!!!!
Since that was not satisfactory, we were seated in the bar area by the piano. service was fair.
Overall, the last few times I have dined at Chop House, very disappointing compared to experience at previous venue. There are many excellent upscale restaurants downtown so most likely won't be back to Chop house
Traditionally we have our Christmas Eve dinner for 8 people at Eddie V's, but waited too long to make the reservation this year and the only steak house that could accommodate us was Mercury Chop House.
We had a reservation, but when we arrived they directed us to a table downstairs in the basement all alone. That was vetoed immediately and they ended up putting together a few tables in a long row near the restrooms and service area. It was difficult for all of us to have a conversation and it was cold and drafty, but there was nothing else available in the regular area of the restaurant.
Initially, service was very slow, but eventually was very good. We placed our drink order and then based on recommendations from our waiter, we ordered a couple of appetizers to start: Fried Calamari and Moroccan Beef Cigars. Neither one was worth ordering again.
With all of that said, each and every one of the entrees was OUTSTANDING and based on that alone we would return in a minute. In fact, we all agreed that the food was better than Eddie V's. We ordered the Filet Mignon, New York Strip Steak, Pork Chops, Lamb Shank, and Short Ribs. The salads and sides were delicious as well. We passed on dessert, so can't review that.
All in all, with exception of the appetizers that we ordered, all of the food was some of the best ever. Unfortunately, the atmosphere simply did not match the food at all. Even if we had been seated in the main dining area of the restaurant instead of in the dark, cold service area there were flat screen TVs over the bar which was situated in the dining area. More reminiscent of a sports bar than a high-end restaurant.
When we arrived they sat us downstairs which was a totally different ambience with a weird smell. We requested to get moved upstairs and they did. The service was not good, the waitress was rude and when she forgot one of our drinks, we asked another waiter who informed her and she made it a point to come over and say “I’m told you want a mojito” with a disturbed look. The prime ribeye was chewy and didn’t have good flavor.
I would not recommend this restaurant.
Very expensive
