Everything was very good. The pot roast was done well and tasty. The ambiance is great and would recommend to all to go and check out the Colonial vibes

a quiet place for a breakfast, reasonably price.
Vegetarian omelet was good, nothing out of the ordinary. Substitutions for sides easily accommodated.
Service was attentive without being intrusive.
We were not rushed.

My friends and I visit the Boston area once a year for a mystery convention. Last year we discovered the Sunday brunch and couldn't wait to visit again this year. It was everything we had anticipated.

Thank you for the best Lobster Bisque I've ever eaten.

Made a reservation, got there and they told me that I was not on the list and the dining room was closing and I would need to relocate to another dining area for brunch. Once sat we overheard they still had breakfast, and were able to order. There was no information on the menu stating higher pricing for gluten free so paid way more than anticipated. Service was slow and wasted $65 on myself and two children, since they don’t have a child’s menu (ages 7 and 10) and we wasted half the food!!

Our server slammed things around, and some of the food was undercooked while some was over cooked. We were surprised because the setting is very nice and the other elements of the experience seem to match.

We've met our friends B&G for dinner before at Merchants' Row and had a nice time, so we decided to meet there again. The dining room is modestly sized, and we were surprised to find tables set for several larger groups, but we were accommodated quite fairly. We all agreed that the meal was top notch, but the room got to be pretty loud later in the evening, so it was difficult to carry on a conversation. Maybe next time we can use one of the smaller, adjacent dining rooms.

We were there for a birthday celebration for a family member & the Inn is centrally located. The food was excellent, a very nice menu selection. Our server was gracious and attentive. Very pleasant.
My only complaint is the restrooms down one flight which was inconvenient but understandable given the age of the Inn.

Went for brunch and they had a lot of food. Omelet station, shrimp, bacon salads ravioli, deserts, good bloody marys and it came with coffee and orange juice. Food was all good and a buffet but it isn't cheap - very pricy but remember the shot heard around the world is next door

300 year old historic inn with great dining options in 2 restaurants and a historic bar/tavern. Sam Adams makes a lager that is only served at this inn. Be sure to try it. Nice menu selections - colonial classics, seafood and veggie. Servers very knowledgable on history of the inn and can add to the charm. Recommend for history buffs and foodies alike.

My wife Nancy and I had been to the Colonial Inn in the past and were quite disappointed.
So, we decided that we'd go one more time to see if our last experience was just a case of a bad night or untrained employee. Happily it seems it was.
Our server this evening was Kate; she came out and we struck up a conversation with her right away and ordered two of the Sam Adams beers that she had recommended from the tap.
We decided that after the bad experience with the beef/steaks we would opt for fish this also because it was Friday.
So we both ordered Fish and Chips and the choice was an excellent one.
The baskets came out loaded with french fries covered by two huge pieces of cod in a tasty batter very well seasoned and not greasy.
The Fries were crunchy on the outside and smooth and soft on the inside which is how I fancy my french fries.
I must say that we both came away with a completely different impression of this establishment from the last time we dined there and I truly think that the bad experience was due to an inexperienced server.

Our service was phenomenal - flawless I would say, but the food only slightly above average. The clam chowder was disappointing, overly heavy, not flavorful. The raw oysters were very fresh and tasty. Lemonade not fresh-squeezed. The two entrees were good to slightly above average (mine was a mixed meat burger with a side salad.

Not busy - 4 other tables occupied when I arrived. Ordered the lobster roll with fries. Roll was average and the fries were cold.

Service was friendly but had to wait a bit to get my check when I was finished.

Inn was cool but most likely I won't return.

I took my ailing mom for Sunday lunch, and while the ramp was a little tough for her to use with a walker, our waitress was wonderful with mom. She was patient, helped with the seating and the walker and gave mom some TLC as well as virgin mango mai tais.

Well, we reserved a table for 8 in the Merchants Row restaurant to commemorate a retirement. When we arrived, we were told that the main dining room (Merchants Row) was closed for a rehearsal party and we were given a table in the "Liberty" restaurant which was crowded and noisy. Our waitress got our drink confused and the seating was uncomfortable. We made the best of it but was not what I expected.

Globally our experience was fine. Food was excellent, the salmon and chicken piccata. We were celebrating our anniversary which happened to coincide with a busy holiday weekend evening and it was very loud in the small dining spaces. This took away from our experience a bit.

They didn't have our reservation, although the restaurant wasn't crowded at all..squeezed us in an awkward spot in the back where servers kept walking by and bumping into our table. The server was friendly but brought the wrong wine, food was mediocre for how much we spent ($270 for 5). Overall a disappointing experience.

Celebrating my parents' 56th anniversary. Wide variety of choices but not overwhelming. Not a huge wine list, but delicious white and red we tried, and markup very reasonable. Kids' menu available. Prime rib perfectly done. Decadent flourless chocolate torte. Several large parties around us made it a bit noisier at times, but decor offered some sound absorption. Isabelle, our waitress, was attentive and friendly without being too present. She seemed to predict our needs in advance. Decor is appropriate for the colonial period it represents.
Would love to come back and try the patio seating.

I was seated promptly, but the hostess was in the dining room - not at her station - when my guest arrived and then had to wait to be seated. The room in which we were seated had no ambiance; the main dining room was entirely empty, so I don't know why we were seated in this room. To give them credit, I asked for a window seat, and they seated me next to a window - albeit overlooking an empty dining room. They brought the wrong order - salads for a nearby table - and when they worked to correct the order, they brought a plate of chicken and dumped it on my guest's existing salad. Not the most elegant way to correct a mistake. ..

Very disappointed. My wife and I visited for the first time to celebrate her birthday. I had heard good things about this restaurant and I wanted her to have a nice meal. She has lots of food allergies so we made sure the waitress listed all of them and told the chef. When the food arrived there was an item on the plate that the waitress had told us she could not have. So we sent the plate back but the waitress came out a few minutes later to say that the item was ok for her to eat after all. When the plate came back out, the food was cold but we went ahead and ate anyway because we had already waited so long. The steak, ordered medium, was dry and the asparagus, which was supposed to be grilled, was barely cooked at all. The waitress never came back to ask us about the meal and we never saw her again until we flagged her down for the check. To be fair, my meal (swordfish special) was good but we are not sure we will return.

We celebrated a high school graduation - party of six. Had oysters and artichoke dip with bread for apps. Two ordered mushroom soup - good choice. Two of us ordered pot roast, one ordered chicken dish, one salmon, and two leg of lamb. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. Lamb was absolutely incredible. Nice wine list. Got corner of room table. Loved that it wasn't a loud venue. Wait staff was attentive. Separate bar if you get to restaurant early or want to stay after dinner. We were able to bring in a small cake - staff accommodated us - perfect! Looking forward to our next visit!

The five of us had dinner at Merchant's Row, and it was the worst meal I can ever remember. My mother's ravioli dish came out cold; she never sends anything back, but she sent it back. My father-in-law had a margarita that was mostly water and completely lacked any flavor. The food was terrible; the service was fine, but we will NOT be returning!
