Merchants Pub and Plate Ratings and Reviews
We needed to grab a bite before a concert we were in town for (from Overland Park), and Merchant's seemed to have a lovely menu, so I booked us a reservation.
They have an extensive drink menu, so we had some time to review that, and also decided on our dinner choices while the server gave us time to look over the menus. We all had drinks (seemed like the Old Fashioned was a good choice for a couple of us, while I had wine), and also ordered a starter, dinners, and dessert.
All food was stellar, served in a timely fashion, and well-priced.
If I lived in Lawrence, I'd probably be eating a meal at Merchant's at least once a month. Cool place, looked like they had a lovely bar, too (which is where my husband and I usually sit when dining out alone), and seriously...no complaints. I really liked this place.
I was dubious about this as it used to be the Teller House and I loved that restaurant, but my worries were not founded. I had not been to Lawrence in 4 years, and the new restaurant - Merchants - is an amazing “farm to table” restaurant with great prices and amazing food. My beet salad was wonderful and a roasted chicken with butternut squash risotto was wonderful - chutney accompanied the dish as did sausage???? It was all wonderful. Helpful wait staff and great ambiance. Don’t miss this.
We had not been to Merchants in some time. It was our anniversary and thought we go back after looking at the online menu (which appeared interesting). We had the house wine (a label with which we were very familiar), flat bread appetizer, salmon and a duck special. The presentation was acceptable. The flat bread had a primary taste of pumpkin seeds - interesting but the seeds took out any subtlety. The online menu wrote that the salmon was King Salmon. The table menu did not. Nevertheless, this was properly cooked, moist with good flavor. The duck special listed 'braised' to which I expected moist. The duck was dry and overcooked. The confit was spicy (the waitress warned of this). I actually could not tell what was in the confit because of the over the top spice. The mushrooms were deep fried with the principal taste of breading. We like the setting now and when it was Teller's. But, the food just wasn't compelling at $25/entrée.
Brunch on Sunday was very tasty: crab cakes, roasted Brussel sprouts, kale Caesar salad were especially nice. The bread pudding could have used a sauce. It had good flavor but a bit dry without the sauce. Very enjoyable brunch experience. Do not expect a huge variety of fare--but what they do provide is more than adequate and tastes great.
Service and food was great as always! Went for a family get together and we had a toddler that was being a goober. Our server (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) was wonderful in bringing out the fruit with his meal prior to when she usually would to chill the little guy out.
We took my folks for their anniversary. They had enjoyed the Sunday brunch before and wanted to go back. This time we made reservations, which worked out perfectly. The food was delicious and of a really nice variety. We really enjoyed the Carmel Apple bread pudding!
It's been a while since our last stop at Merchant's and the good news is that it remains a great stop for our visits to Lawrence. THe service is great and super nice staff. The food is good to great and the selection of craft beers is an added plus. Our 2 favorite items for this night were the pork belly ap and the Short Ribs and Gnochi. But everything was good.
My fiance and our two girls decided to drive from Topeka to Lawrence and dine at Merchants Pub and Plate. It had really great reviews and the online menu looked great! I made the reservation on Open Table. We were seated right away. Our server was nice but she forgot to order our appetizers - she didn't come back to the table until our actual entrees were delivered. When we told her we didn't get our appetizers, she said "oh sorry, I forgot to put them in." She did give us two desserts on the house, which was nice but we would have rather had our appetizers. The food was good. We ordered the bison burger - it was good but overcooked. The salmon was great and the seared scallops were ok but overpriced. All in all the food was good, the service was ok, and the atmosphere was nice - it was really busy.
Had a nice lunch with some friends before attending a relatives wedding. Overall it was a great meal with prompt service. All the starters we tried were wonderful, as was the dessert. My Vietnamese pork chop, while cooked perfectly, wasn't what I'd describe as Vietnamese. The lamb burger was delicious though and several great beers were available. Would dine again.
Service and food is absolutely incredible. We have been twice now and have been happy from start to finish. Love that the menu changes so we always get to try something new. Seafood tastes fresh and nothing is overdone, seasonings and sauces are just right.
