Mercato BYOB is a festive and modern Italian eatery that lets you bring your own drinks. A simple and to the point menu focuses on quality over quantity and features items like ricotta raviolo and a spicy crab bucatini with squid ink pasta.
The artisan cheeses and house-cured meats at Mercato BYOB are perfect for sharing and are paired with sauces and condiments like agrodolce and pickled white grapes. A whole grilled artichoke appetizer will undoubtedly turn you into the vegetable's biggest fan. Heavier dishes, like the Grilled Hanger Steak with yukon gold potato wedge, are equally impressive. Mercato BYOB opens at 5 p.m. The restaurant has a four course tasting menu that is ideal for groups.
One of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. Perfect before events on Avenue of the Arts.
great food, small space, good service until check-time which was a bit slow
Rude staff uninformative policy at restaurant of cash only
Have to say, used to love this place and I was very underwhelmed this time. Branzino dish left little to be desired. Pyramid pasta ok. Service was fine but people didn’t seem happy to be waiting on us. Sad this restaurant has taken a turn.
I had dinner at the restaurant with some friends before a performance. It's a tiny restaurant at the corner of a block, convenient to most theaters and performance spaces. It got really crowded, really fast. The noise level was so loud that it was hard to hear the person across the table from you. It was very "cozy" - that being the key word for tables crammed together. But the staff was really nice, and the food was good. We ordered a cheese plate to share and they were generous with the bread. We ordered 3 separate pasta dishes for our entrees and all were good. I would go back there.
We're so glad they finally commenced taking reservations. Now, if they would only start accepting credit cards, we've have something !
Food was fantastic as well as the service. Everything was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend.
Always great. Never disappoints. Service is excellent and to insure we got to our show on time we booked an early dinner and had plenty of time before the theater to take a walk. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Mercato's quality of food is always consistent, the service friendly and price moderate. It's the perfect place for a casual dinner.
Incredible service and delicious food. Easily accommodated food allergies and knew all the ingredients to every dish. We shared a cheese plate, artichoke and a main dish and had food leftover.
Overall a nice dining experience. This is my second time dining here, the first time in their dining room. Though when we arrived the restaurant was nearly empty, we were seated inches away from another couple. (Side note: this ended up being entertaining because they were on a tinder date, but would prefer to have our own space). The restaurant is BYOB, which is nice. The food was excellent. The pyramid pasta is a must try. The Nduja bolognese was actually rigatoni tonight and needed more ricotta (Marscapone would actually do wonders for this dish). The service was fair, I wasn't blown away.
Excellent food! Recommend the vegetable risotto and the seafood pasta!
Awesome as always!
Mercato is a happening place. But it's more than a place; it's an experience. My wife and I never go that we don't meet and talk to the people seated around us as if we've known them for years. Added to this, the food is terrific. I had a veal dish, my wife had the night's special, a salmon dish. Both were terrific. The meals are always a combination of ingredients that satisfy a new culinary experience. Go for the food, enjoy the experience!
I was disappointed in the food. I ordered stuffed meatballs that were bland. The salmon I ordered was also bland. My girlfriend ordered the salmon also & it came out raw on the inside. The waitress took it back & gave her a new salmon which also came out raw. So my girlfriend only ate her appetizer & dessert . The waitress was great. She was the best part about the restaurant.
First time at Mercato. Staff very friendly and attentive and food was outstanding. Portions a little small but still good value. And it’s a BYOB
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Mercato. The kitchen works wonders and we watched the chefs make the magic right from our table. The food was remarkable. Steak seared perfectly, pasta al dente, and the sauces for each dish were impeccably seasoned. The attention to details did not go unnoticed. We are very grateful for such a lovely meal. Highly recommended. We’ll be returning soon!
Food, ambiance, and service were great. Can’t wait to go back!
Was seated promptly. The place is small but the seating had enough space. I ordered the braised short rib over palenta. The meat was tender and cooked perfectly. It’s a byob and they brought out a nice bottle holder with ice. Great service. Check it out
Delicious and innovative pasta dishes. BYOB. Excellent service.
It was quite loud and the seating arrangement was fairly unconventional. My friend was seated too close to the entry of the kitchen and couldn’t get comfortable with all of the foot traffic brushing against him every few minutes.
Food was great but waitress wasn’t particularly interested in explaining the menu.
Consistently good solid Italian food after all these years. A cozy BYOB in a sweet spot of Washington Square West. Get a night cap across the street at Valanni. Oh, remember this gem is cash only.
My family and I love Mercato. We've visited for a variety of reasons - birthdays, Sunday night dinners, and a late night desperate hunt for good food. Mercato has never failed to please. The food is bursting with flavor, carefully prepared, and made with high quality ingredients - we love the charred artichokes and the pyramid pasta. (And the tiramisu it out of this world. If I could have a slice everyday...) Also, the service is fantastic. We are always well taken care of, and they've even stayed open late when we've been the only ones in the restaurant. Mercato is one of my favorite restaurants in Philly and always a reliably incredible meal filled with cheer.
Amazing....the “diamond” in the rough! Would highly recommend.
Great food despite limited menu. Great value with BYOB.
I dined at Mercato a few years ago when visiting Philly and had such an amazing dinner (superb food and cozy, fun ambiance) that I have been dying to go back ever since. It lived up to my memory! Our server was so friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. The best thing we had was the butternut squash gnudi in a brown butter, sage and pancetta sauce. The space is so cozy and both times I didn't feel rushed to give up my table, even on a busy weekend night. Will be back, thank you for a fabulous meal, Mercato!
We’ve been going here for years for our birthdays and other times with friends. The staff used to be so much more pleasant and let you hang out, but now I always feel rushed and not wanted. It’s sad that the staff could ruin such fantastic food, but they have been the last couple of times. I think we will try a more friendly BYOB next time.
Crowded but cozy. Excellent service. The food was freshly prepared and it was amazing. It was our first time there and we will go again when visiting Philly.
Amazing service, food, and experience.
My friends took me here for my Birthday. It was a great time. The restaurant is small and seating is tight but a lovely and casual space. But very loud. Everything we ordered was delicious and unique but not over thought. I will be back soon.
The rabbit pasta dish was unbelievably good as was all the food. It may be the noisy restaurant in the city and you are packed in. But it is fun. BYOB and cash only. Don't show up too early. You'll be standing outside in the cold for your table. There isn't an extra inch of space in the place.
Be prepared to sit extremely close to the people next to you unless you have a bigger group which gives you more space. The restaurant is loud but that’s part of the ambience. It’s one gigantic room with a few waiters wiggling in and out of chairs. The food is made to order and their specials are usually well-deserved. It’s BYOB which is great. The artichoke appetizer is delicious but a bit expensive for one artichoke.
Over the last 15 years I have eaten here countless times. But this last visit on Valentine's Day was horrible. The pre-fixe menu was a great selection of dishes but fell short of actually tasting good. My scallops were doused in vinegar Making them unrecognizable, the pasta dish had an off tasting flavor that later I believe made me sick, and the chocolate bread pudding was like chewing on a shoe. Where was the chocolate and sugar?! The lamb was the only redeeming dish, but at this point my palate didn't care. What happened to this place?! I wish I could get my money back. After spending 75pp for the meal I was completely disappointed. There are just too many good restaurants for less money serving better prepared food. I will not be returning.
Consistently excellent food with good service and a fun, BYOB atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Mercato is still my favorite restaurant in the city. Great food for good value and a nice little restaurant.
Went here with my family for a birthday dinner and it was great. Service was awesome and food was delicious. Just remember it is CASH only and BYOB.
Birthday dinner was great
very cute spot. great food, awesome service. its a small space so tables are pretty close together, but it makes for a fun time to meet your neighbors!
Food was amazing!!!! However, the Server seemed very impatient and a bit snippy throughout the meal. We put in several appetizers at first and she seemed to be noticeably annoyed that we weren’t ready to put in our entrees yet. When asked what the specials were she flippantly told us we could look at the specials board. Not sure if she was having an off-night or what. Been here several times and the food is always amazing. Luckily we are not deterred from coming back one bad server experience .
The service was very poor and unfriendly and unwelcoming. We were rushed throughout our meal and the servers were very rude. Would never recommend to anyone.
