Mercato BYOB is a festive and modern Italian eatery that lets you bring your own drinks. A simple and to the point menu focuses on quality over quantity and features items like ricotta raviolo and a spicy crab bucatini with squid ink pasta.
The artisan cheeses and house-cured meats at Mercato BYOB are perfect for sharing and are paired with sauces and condiments like agrodolce and pickled white grapes. A whole grilled artichoke appetizer will undoubtedly turn you into the vegetable's biggest fan. Heavier dishes, like the Grilled Hanger Steak with yukon gold potato wedge, are equally impressive. Mercato BYOB opens at 5 p.m. The restaurant has a four course tasting menu that is ideal for groups.CASH ONLY
We have dined at Mercato often. We love the food and we were so excited to see a throw back Sunday Italian dinner. Loved the menu as there were so many of my old favorites . The one item I would have loved to seen the menu was the Milan salad.
Old school Philly. One of my all time favorites. For our dinner we had the mussels in red sauce. My husband had the chicken parm and I had one of my special dinners-eggplant rollatini. We both had the ice box cake for dessert. Dinner was delicious. The chef is terrific as is the waitstaff. Looking forward to returning for another wonderful meal once the restrictions on dining out are lifted.
Service was excellent, food was subpar and did not meet expectations
Simply the best!
Amazing food, great service AND Byob, so excellent value!
A wonderful place to spend an evening with fine food and insightful company. The tables are close enough to make everyone else your neighbor for the evening. The menu changes just enough on a regular basis and the food never lacks for both enjoyable taste and creativity. Also, they keep their reservation times (no little thing) in the middle of cold, winter nights. If you have never dined here, you're missing one of the memorable experiences of center city
We had an excellent meal at Mercato. The meatballs and Sunday gravy are delicious! They do need to revisit their reservations/timing. We had a 7:45 reservation and were not seated until 8:15.
The pasta with seafood frutti di mare was the best and the fried pork chop with long hot pepper was yummy too. Cheese board appetizer was great too and our usual order of meatballs app was delicious as always. Love that it's a BYOB too. Can't wait to come back again.
It was amazing as usual. The service and food was fantastic. It’s our favorite spot.
First time diners. We had a wonderful experience. The food was as good as we have always heard.
Went to mercato on 2/15 for valentines date with my boyfriend. We were informed in advanced about it being cash only and only a pre fixe menu on this date. I absolutely loved the food, however, it was BYOB and we bright 2 bottles of wine. We were asked for our choices for all 4 courses at the beginning which I understood. That being said, whenever any waiter saw our course finished they grabbed it immediately and brought the next one. For paying so much for a meal we were extremely rushed. Not necessarily rushed but felt extremely pressured the entire meal and felt there was no time in between courses for conversation or to enjoy our drinks. The music was a good volume and we could hear each other speak but we were seated so close to one another that I was practically knocking over the drinks of the table next to me just to sit down or leave to go to the bathroom. For the price we paid I really wish they could have slowed the meal down. The staff was extremely nice but would ask me how my food was before I had even taken a bite. The minute it was placed on the table I was asked how it was.. the food quality was amazing but for the price I expected the rest to be amazing... I really would have appreciated a better ambiance (it was packed) and better service.
Overall experience was good. Pasta was little bit overdone and veal for scallopini was little thick and also overdone. Good taste overall. Will wait alittle while before we go back and order freely from menu instead of set menu for Valentines.
Came here for dinner before a show on Valentine’s Day weekend. They checked with us a couple times to make sure we knew it was a prix fixe menu of $75 pp. That seemed awfully steep but when you’re up against a wall for a holiday weekend, what can you do? At least they were byob. The place was very tight, most patrons looked visibly uncomfortable to be in such crowded conditions. The service was very quick (a bit too quick, we were definitely being rushed along) but what was most disappointing was the food. Nothing was great, maybe the one exception was the gnocchi, that was delicious. We warned the table next to us (since they were practically in our lap anyway) against ordering the bland risotto. I’ve honestly had better risotto from a Lean Cuisine. I don’t think I’d go back here, even at the regular prices.
Table's are so close together you essentially dine with other people. In addition, valentines day 4 course meal was 75 dollars a person but was overall made of bad quality food. would never go back. Server's were not very warm and welcoming as well.
Great food, great service. Seating is tight but not uncomfortably tight. The BYOB adds a charm to the restaurant. We will be back.
We went for Valentine’s Day, it was amazing. The gnocchi was the best we’ve ever had. Very cute and intimate- great date night BYOB !
This used to be one of my favorite places. My husband and I had really awful meals there last week: he ordered the pyramid pasta dish, one of our favorites; the pasta was tough and dry like it had been frozen for a long time. I had the mushroom, fava been pasta with truffle, one of blandest things I've eaten there. No flavor, especially not truffle. That, combined with the feeling that you're packed in like sardines makes me think it will be a long time before we go back.
While the food & service were excellent, it was beyond noisy. We were at a table for two & the tables are small but it was extremely difficult to carry on a conversation. Since part of the dining experience for my husband & I is to enjoy conversation over our wine & food, it was impossible to hear each other so it was a rather silent meal. I love the small intimate setting but the intimacy is hampered by not being able to hear your dinner partner’s conversation.
Outstanding service and food. Great atmosphere. it is a bit loud but it makes for a more lively time. Definitely recommend.
Fantastic in every way.
It was a great place with a pleasant vibe. The pork chop was amazing!
Wonderful food and service. If you don’t like to be right up next to another table go elsewhere. But we had a nice chat with our neighbors. We will definitely be back!
Wonderful service and amazing food! Favorite byob.
Good meal and decent experience at Mercato. Ceasar salad was very good. Ricotta toast was interesting but a tad too sweet. Less honey would make it more appealing. The ricotta was fantastic as was the little bit of citrus. The chicken saltenbuca was wonderful. Great flavors melded together. The seafood pyramid pasta was a bit of a disappointment. It was extremely fishy, almost as if the fish used was not as fresh as it should be and it seemed a bit sparse on fish. Broth was good, interesting flavors. The afrogatto was standard. Good size portion, easily shared. Space at Mercato is always an issue. You have to prepare yourself for the extremely tight quarters. Food used to be phenomenal for which you could deal with the space restrictions. As the food gets less phenomenal, the space is harder to tolerate.
Great place- always friendly.
Went with friends, we all had a different entre and everyone loved what they ordered . Will definitely be back
Happy with food and service. Will return. Nice friendly place.
Exceptional food. Appetizers and entree’s were phenomenal. Always love dining there
The food was outstanding. The mussels are exceptional. Spicy and unexpected but delicious. It’s cozy seating for sure but fun. The service was also very good. I definitely recommend it.
We went the last night of Restaurant Week. It was very busy and the tables were very close together. No chance for a private conversation Food was good though.
Mercato is a cozy restaurant in general, but I felt durning restaurant week it seemed more tables were set out making the restaurant very loud & having the people on both sides of you to knock your table or even elbow you a few times by accident. Not the atmosphere we were looking forward to. Thank you
We ate there during Restaurant Week so the value was better than usual. We liked our menu choices, especially the branzino and the stuffed artichokes. It’s a small place so the noise level is very high- a common problem in many center city restaurants. I’m not sure I would go back when they have their “regular” prices- entrees are supposedly $$$ and there are many more reasonably priced Italian restaurants in Philly,
Food and service excellent. Very small restaurant so you are seated very close to other diners, can over hear conversations and is difficult to get up from table once seated.—visit restroom , get up to leave etc., without disturbing table next to you.
I really enjoyed my meal for restaurant week. I will def come back to eat!
Great service, quick but food was very salty, I had the mussels fra Diablo, delicious, shrimp scampi, VERY SALTY! And tiramisu for dessert.
I ate here for restaurant week and got the mussels, short rib, and tiramisu. Overall the food was good, my mussels were much spicier than I expected - we did forget it was CASH ONLY so had to make a quick run to the ATM. The space is very small and I felt like when I was trying to leave the restaurant with my bag and coat I was going to hit one of the other patrons in the room.
We ate there during restaurant week, and it was great. Tables are pretty close together so you are pretty cozy with your neighbors, but otherwise the food was great, service was great too!
Service and food impeccable as always! One of my favorite places in Philly.
First time at this restaurant for Restaurant Week and was not disappointed. The Branzino was incredible and Tiramasu dessert amazing. We ate at 10 so it was not too crowded and the service as attentive. Will try it again under a normal menu.
Good food but too crowded
