Mercato BYOB is a festive and modern Italian eatery that lets you bring your own drinks. A simple and to the point menu focuses on quality over quantity and features items like ricotta raviolo and a spicy crab bucatini with squid ink pasta.
The artisan cheeses and house-cured meats at Mercato BYOB are perfect for sharing and are paired with sauces and condiments like agrodolce and pickled white grapes. A whole grilled artichoke appetizer will undoubtedly turn you into the vegetable's biggest fan. Heavier dishes, like the Grilled Hanger Steak with yukon gold potato wedge, are equally impressive. Mercato BYOB opens at 5 p.m. The restaurant has a four course tasting menu that is ideal for groups.CASH ONLY
I have driven down Spruce Street for years and have seen the crowds at Mercato. I finally made a reservation for dinner. The seating is pretty tight but not uncomfortable. I started with a half grilled artichoke and I haven't had an artichoke this good outside of Rome. I also ordered pork Milanese. The bone in chop was pounded very thin, breaded and fried and served with arugula and tomatoes. I often order this dish and the chop was as good as any I've had. My partner had the fish special which he said was delicious. I can't wait to go back to Mercato again and order the Bolognese which I saw at the table next to me!
The food was amazing. Our waiter was attentive and accommodating. Mercato is a gem!
Though it was very busy, service was great and everything was delicious and well -prepared.
My husband and I had not been to Mercato for several years. We were regulars over a long period of time. To our surprise many of the same servers were still there and remembered us. The seating is extremely close. Luckily we had a wonderful conversation with diners next to us. The food was very good and we will return very soon.
I still wanted to love this place! First I have to say the wait staff were very good and the hostess extremely accommodating. That being said, the food was a MAJOR disappointment. I read all the reviews online and the wonderful comments about the PASTA PYRAMID / Not even close. It was three pieces of ravioli on the plate with a very pale watery sauce. My partner ordered the gemelli with crabmeat-we had to search to find even a tablespoon of crab, which did not taste fresh. I am a salt lover, and I even I had difficulty eating the arugula salad on top of my pork chop. Not sure why the salad was salted, but the taste was overpowering. I’ve read reviews where other people have complained about this as well. Food is just average and it did not have to go to Center City for Italian food. The waiter kindly brought us a doggy bag to bring home our meals, which were only 1/3 eaten. My friend and I disliked the meal that we actually left the doggy bag behind. Unfortunately we will not be back, sorry.
Food was delicious as always. Still our favorite restaurant in the city!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Mercato. Service was excellent, the food was delicious and portions were generous. The tables are tight, but it wasn't overly busy when we were there - 5pm on a Sunday. I would imagine it is a bit noisy when full. We will go back and would certainly recommend.
All 4 of us enjoyed our meal. Branzino was excellent. My pork chop was delicious, but rare near the bone. These days I think this is ok.
We were 45 minutes late due to traffic getting into the city, but they were able to accommodate us and even got us out so that we could make our show. Food was great and we would definitely go back again. Hopefully we can be a little more relaxed last time.
One of the best restaurants in Philadelphia! Low key and always delicious.
Great meal and even better service.
We really enjoyed dining outside at Mercato. Apps we're great, except the mussels. They weren't as fresh and tasty as they should be. We tried several dishes and that was the only one that was not to our linking. We would return.
Great food, everything was delicious especially the Beef Ragu, definitely will be going back for that
Went for restaurant week with my mom. Food was really good, service was great, the restaurant is really tight. Cash only, but they are a byob which is nice.
Great food with a friendly staff. BYO so you can splurge on your favorite wine. We visit every time we are in Philly for the past 10 years.
I've only gone for restaurant week, but always love Mercato. They have amazing fresh pasta and seafood and generous portions.
Delicious! Not rushed and everyone enjoyed their dishes.
Consistently good food! Great BYOB ! Nice size portions.
Good food and drinks are to be found at this nice Washington Square West popular dining room. It is " cash only " here, perhaps one day they'll commence taking credit cards .
The pork was unbelievable
Would give it 5 starts if tables were not so close.. It is a small place with tight--very tight seating. there was about 4" of space between tables. once your seated, don't plan on getting up or you will have to disrupt other tables to wiggle out..
Service was great, food was great and BYOB always good!!
Fabulous food and service. It was a little noisy because the entire restaurant was having a FABULOUS time!
Probably won’t recommend restaurant week.
Food mediocre and Luke warm
Couldn’t eat it
They offered coverage but sort of lost altitude
Too small, we basically sat on top of each other. Waitress rushed us and food was way too salty.
Great food & service. Always honor reservations on time. Wonderfully consistent BYOB
Mercato is BYOB and cash only. The restaurant week menu was spectacular. The noise level inside was awful. Unfortunately, the outdoor tables were all taken. I think this is a good find for folks interested in a Mediterranean meal. Portions were reasonable sizes and food was delicious.
We went to Mercato before a show at the Forest and it was perfect. The Restaurant Week offerings were beyond our expectations. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I would definitely plan a trip to the city just for this restaurant.
Mercato was lovely. Some of the food knocked it out of the park -- the artichoke! But the meatballs were a little underwhelming, as was the squid ink pasta. But the short rib ragu was OUTSTANDING!
Always amazing food, great service. They opened up the outside area with pretty lights for a beautiful evening ambiance
Loved loved this Restaurant great food and atmosphere and waiters absolutely a great experience. I can’t wait to dine here again
Excellent restaurant week meal! Started with beet salad, then I had a wonderful salmon dinner...but my husbands short rib dinner was hands down the best! Very friendly staff, great vibe, great music!! Fun night!!
Delicious food,great value and service.
Great place. Excellent food. Pleasant and friendly service
we were in Philadelphia for a Birthday celebration.
Food was pretty much cold by the time we got it for both appetizers and entrees. I wouldn't want to go back especially for the high prices were not worth it at all.
It was great and short ribs were amazing. Tiramisu was a great way to end the night
The food was amazing — we had the meatballs and grilled artichoke for appetizers, the Ragu and the Bolognese for dinner. Everything was cooked perfectly and our server was so kind and attentive.
We have frequented Mercato several times before this was the first time during restaurant week. The portions were the same healthy size and the food was delicious, hot, and served timely. Will go back again!
Always great food and terrific service. One of my favorites in town.
