Mercato BYOB is a festive and modern Italian eatery that lets you bring your own drinks. A simple and to the point menu focuses on quality over quantity and features items like ricotta raviolo and a spicy crab bucatini with squid ink pasta.
The artisan cheeses and house-cured meats at Mercato BYOB are perfect for sharing and are paired with sauces and condiments like agrodolce and pickled white grapes. A whole grilled artichoke appetizer will undoubtedly turn you into the vegetable's biggest fan. Heavier dishes, like the Grilled Hanger Steak with yukon gold potato wedge, are equally impressive. Mercato BYOB opens at 5 p.m. The restaurant has a four course tasting menu that is ideal for groups.

Delicious and innovative pasta dishes. BYOB. Excellent service.
It was quite loud and the seating arrangement was fairly unconventional. My friend was seated too close to the entry of the kitchen and couldn’t get comfortable with all of the foot traffic brushing against him every few minutes.
Food was great but waitress wasn’t particularly interested in explaining the menu.
My family and I love Mercato. We've visited for a variety of reasons - birthdays, Sunday night dinners, and a late night desperate hunt for good food. Mercato has never failed to please. The food is bursting with flavor, carefully prepared, and made with high quality ingredients - we love the charred artichokes and the pyramid pasta. (And the tiramisu it out of this world. If I could have a slice everyday...) Also, the service is fantastic. We are always well taken care of, and they've even stayed open late when we've been the only ones in the restaurant. Mercato is one of my favorite restaurants in Philly and always a reliably incredible meal filled with cheer.
Amazing....the “diamond” in the rough! Would highly recommend.
Great food despite limited menu. Great value with BYOB.
I dined at Mercato a few years ago when visiting Philly and had such an amazing dinner (superb food and cozy, fun ambiance) that I have been dying to go back ever since. It lived up to my memory! Our server was so friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. The best thing we had was the butternut squash gnudi in a brown butter, sage and pancetta sauce. The space is so cozy and both times I didn't feel rushed to give up my table, even on a busy weekend night. Will be back, thank you for a fabulous meal, Mercato!
We’ve been going here for years for our birthdays and other times with friends. The staff used to be so much more pleasant and let you hang out, but now I always feel rushed and not wanted. It’s sad that the staff could ruin such fantastic food, but they have been the last couple of times. I think we will try a more friendly BYOB next time.
Crowded but cozy. Excellent service. The food was freshly prepared and it was amazing. It was our first time there and we will go again when visiting Philly.
Amazing service, food, and experience.
My friends took me here for my Birthday. It was a great time. The restaurant is small and seating is tight but a lovely and casual space. But very loud. Everything we ordered was delicious and unique but not over thought. I will be back soon.
The rabbit pasta dish was unbelievably good as was all the food. It may be the noisy restaurant in the city and you are packed in. But it is fun. BYOB and cash only. Don't show up too early. You'll be standing outside in the cold for your table. There isn't an extra inch of space in the place.
Be prepared to sit extremely close to the people next to you unless you have a bigger group which gives you more space. The restaurant is loud but that’s part of the ambience. It’s one gigantic room with a few waiters wiggling in and out of chairs. The food is made to order and their specials are usually well-deserved. It’s BYOB which is great. The artichoke appetizer is delicious but a bit expensive for one artichoke.
Over the last 15 years I have eaten here countless times. But this last visit on Valentine's Day was horrible. The pre-fixe menu was a great selection of dishes but fell short of actually tasting good. My scallops were doused in vinegar Making them unrecognizable, the pasta dish had an off tasting flavor that later I believe made me sick, and the chocolate bread pudding was like chewing on a shoe. Where was the chocolate and sugar?! The lamb was the only redeeming dish, but at this point my palate didn't care. What happened to this place?! I wish I could get my money back. After spending 75pp for the meal I was completely disappointed. There are just too many good restaurants for less money serving better prepared food. I will not be returning.
Consistently excellent food with good service and a fun, BYOB atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Mercato is still my favorite restaurant in the city. Great food for good value and a nice little restaurant.
Went here with my family for a birthday dinner and it was great. Service was awesome and food was delicious. Just remember it is CASH only and BYOB.
Birthday dinner was great
very cute spot. great food, awesome service. its a small space so tables are pretty close together, but it makes for a fun time to meet your neighbors!
Food was amazing!!!! However, the Server seemed very impatient and a bit snippy throughout the meal. We put in several appetizers at first and she seemed to be noticeably annoyed that we weren’t ready to put in our entrees yet. When asked what the specials were she flippantly told us we could look at the specials board. Not sure if she was having an off-night or what. Been here several times and the food is always amazing. Luckily we are not deterred from coming back one bad server experience .
The service was very poor and unfriendly and unwelcoming. We were rushed throughout our meal and the servers were very rude. Would never recommend to anyone.
Very nice tasting menu (but too much food)--for two: delicious antipasti sampler, starters of grilled octopus and cauliflower arabiata, excellent mains of stuffed veal with prosciutto and a grilled Pompano with crab, yummy desserts of pistachio gelato and a cannoli. $54 p.p. was a good value for a great meal. Friendly, welcoming neighborhood place.
Mercato is one our favorite restaurants in Philadelphia, a "go to" spot with out of town guests or simply a date night. The food and service are always excellent!
Mercato continues to be a very good restaurant. I had not been there in a few years and was happy to learn they are now taking reservations. I’ll definitely return.
We had a fantastic meal at Mercato. The Pyramid pasta was the best pasta dish I have ever had. It was to die for. Outstanding Antipasto appetizer was shared. Way too large for two. It would have been perfect for four people. Companion's hanger steak was cooked perfectly and tasty. We were too stuffed for dessert. Other than the very cramped quarters, it was a perfect evening.
Our second time to Mercato. It was as good as the first and we look forward to visiting again.
I love Mercato! Food is inspiring and delicious. While the waitress tends to be a bit gruff, I don't let it spoil my dinner:)
Great place to go for quiet dinner Sundays early. Food was wonderful
Really enjoyed our meal on Saturday night. The food was fresh, interesting and simply delicious! We had a wonderful waiter who seemed to know the menu and couldn't have been nicer. We shared a very tasty octopus appetizer and both enjoyed the swordfish main course which was superb. Our only disappointment (and it was minor compared to the rest of the meal) was the apple galette dessert- which was made with puffed pastry. Ugh. We'll be back!
We 've been here during the restaurant week to discover the place,
All was tasty and good, and worth the price,
We were looking for a place to dine during restaurant week and found this little gem. The say the place is small is an understatement. The servers were very friendly and attentive but not a distraction. We started with the meat balls. Very good. I think some of the best I've had. My wife had the pasta and I had the short rib ragu with polenta. The meat was so tender you could flake it apart with your fork. Everything came from the kitchen piping hot. Excellent. Would recommend Mercato to anyone.
Felt a little rushed
Food and service very good but way too noisy probably because it was Restaurant Week.
Always a great experience here - A total BYOB standout in Philly - outstanding.
Enjoyed a dine-out experience at Mercato. Friendly service, sympatico setting, delicious food--fabulous market salad with winter greens and roasted tomatoes, poached trout with grilled artichokes, beets and more, a tasty galette with gelato to finish--yum, yum, yum. One should be prepared with cash and BYOB. Easy striking distance to Avenue of the Arts. Small neighborhood place, so reserve in advance.
I will start by saying we went during Restaurant Week. $35 PP, one app, one entree, one dessert. App was fine. A good salad. Dinner, though, was meager at best. I ordered the trout. It looked to be one-half of one side of the fish; maybe 3 or 4 ounces. I was going to say something, but we were with friends and I thought better of it.
If a restaurant is going to participate in Restaurant week, then serve your regular portion size. If what was served is the regular portion size, shame on the restaurant.
Mercato is a great place to get great Italian food. The venue is small and tight, get to know your neighbors. The kitchen is on the back end of the room and fun to watch them cook your meal.
My husband and I went during restaurant week, the place was loud and energetic with quick service, we loved it.
Mercato is BYOB and CASH Only.
1 thing- it does get warm in there so dress light.
We got the meatballs, roasted cauliflower, bolognese, short rib, apple/pear pastry with vanilla gelato & cannoli. Everything was SO good.
we will 100% come back to Mercato for another meal.
We went to Mercato for restaurant week and really enjoyed the food. They provided many options to their restaurant week menu. We loved the meatballs and bread! The only negative is that the restaurant is extremely small and it felt very crowded and hot inside.
Great food, tight seating and remember it’s cash only. Loved the restaurant week menu! Delicious!
This was my first trip to Mercato, and I was excited for my Restaurant Week meal. I had heard and read good reviews and thought the menu looked fantastic. I left feeling like I had a good but not great meal. We arrived right at our reservation time and had to wait probably close to 10 minutes to be seated. That's not a big deal, other than the fact that there really is not anywhere to stand, so we were between the entrance and a table, as were a couple of other patrons waiting to be seated. Service through the meal, however, was friendly and responsive.
As for the meal itself...I started off with the shaved brussel sprout salad, and it was the highlight of the meal, slaw-like but not too creamy with a crispness of texture and flavor. My friend was a little disappointed that her stuffed meatball appetizer was not hot all the way through, so the cheese inside wasn't melted. For the entree course, I had the squid-ink bucatini with crab. The pasta was just a touch more al dente than I prefer, but the flavor was good. There was a decent amount of crabmeat. My friend ordered the short rib which she enjoyed but stated she's had better. We both got a pear apple galette. We both wished it had more filling. Very little of the fruit flavor came through.
Overall, it was a decent meal but not one that wowed me.
I looked into dozens of restaurant week menus and finally decided on this restaurant. My criteria were: 1) good reviews on Yelp; 2) offer a good variety of food choices in a limited restaurant week. I had never heard of Mercato, but was attracted to their restaurant week menu. We ordered rainbow trout and spicy crab meat on squid ink pasta for the main course. The size is not too big, just enough to enjoy the taste and keep a good memory of the dishes.
The only complain is the space between tables is tiny. I (wear size 0 or xs) had to suck my belly in badly in order to get in and out when I needed to use the bathroom.
