Mercado Ratings and Reviews
We've driven by this restaurant too many times to count but never went in because the exterior of the restaurant looks so poorly taken care of. Finally, Saturday evening we decided to give it a try with friends. The wait staff who are also the hosts seated us promptly and delivered our drinks right away. The sangria and the margarita and two other drinks were quite good. However, once we had our order of guacamole delivered to our table, it went downhill from there. The guacamole was sooo spicy it was inedible. We told the wait person we did not want it. Everything we ordered for entrees was equally spicy and we vowed we would not return. So sorry to have to say this 'cause we were hoping for better.
Although we had read reviews about the poor service, we thought that this place would be a good place to try for the first time. As we walked in, the hostess greeted us as if "What are you doing here?". No smile, no salutation, nothing. The food was good, although not completely outstanding, which was totally fine. Standard Mexican with a few good extras. Guac was a bit mushy, but still tasty. Carnitas were good, with a nice bit of pineapple mixed in. Plenty of food at a good, reasonable price. We would go back again.
Finding a reliable place to dine that's not a scene on the East End is not always easy. Welcome to Mercado! The food is consistently reliable and the portions are generous. Service is attentive but not intrusive. Indeed this is good value for the price in every sense, though true Mexican foodies might quarrel with the authenticity of many of the dishes. I, for one, will keep coming back.
Totally mediocre experience. The food was fine - t was everything else that was wrong. There is absolutely no atmosphere. A sports bar ambiance with insipid music. Bad lighting and decor and no positive vibe, Customers come in, eat and leave. Not right for the Hamptons and economically not right for the management.
Came here for an anniversary dinner, wound up being a very stormy night so it was an empty dining room, which made for a great date and great conversation. The margaritas were delicious, the service was great, the food was amazing....in short, my girlfriend and I enjoyed every aspect of our experience here and will definitely find our way back!!!
We visited Mercado on NYE. we were coming from the city and were the last reservation of the night. The drinks were spicy. The food was great. Our server was the absolute best. even though we were there late, we felt welcome the whole time and would absolutely come back if we lived in the area. This dinner was the start of a very special night. Thank you!
Sorry that it's had a few bad reviews. The food is delicious and when it's not busy. Loved it for lunch and went back for dinner a few weeks later on a busy night (although Open Table had spaces) Still loved the food but had to wait a long time and staff was overwhelmed. Not sure if it was a fluke, but the food is worth the wait.
We were in the mood for Mexican food and decided to try Mercado. We were pleasantly surprised! The food and service was excellent! The guacamole was the best we ever had and the Mexican street corn was fantastic. My wife and I both ordered quesadillas and they were incredibly tasty. Also, the margaritas were great.
Overall, this was a wonderful meal. We are glad we chose Mercado and will make this a stop every time we visit the Hamptons. Four stars!
They have consistently been the worst service for 3 years n a row (Saturday lunch, Friday dinner). Every year we go once , hoping to have better service, that they will fire the staff and upgrade , maybe it's the owner because we see one man over an over again. Terrible service not friendly at all. This is Bridgehampton , I expect better. So many other choices. Don't go .
One of the worst dining experiences in recent memory.
once our waitress found out that we were not going to order drinks, she promptly forgot us after she took our order. We waited an hour to be served even though there were only three tables occupied in the restaurant at that time. Only the intervention of the hostess brought us our meals, which were cold.never will return
Late Lunch, only a Bartender on, they definitely needed a bus person to assist. The Guacamole, which is stated on the menu to be home made, was awful. We mentioned it to the server-bartender, and were pleasantly surprise to not see it on our bill!
Queso Fondito was excellent as were the Shrimp Tacos. The Carne Asada taco, unfortunately had the awful guac under the beef, instead of slices of avocado, so it was uninspiring. The Plantain was very good, Chips were good, Salsa's were a bit watery.
Outstanding Beer and Tequila selection.
It was overall ok, but won't be back
Great atmosphere and service. We had a large party and the waitress did a great job accommodating us all swiftly. The guacamole was delusions! Two people in our party had the chicken and both had to to go outside to cool off due to the chicken being so spicy, but they said it was still delicious. I had the jicama shrimp tacos, which were okay if you preferred something on the lighter side. We would definitely go back if ever in the area again.
Took an inordinate amount of time to get the food. We had to ask to get a second round. Order was wrong but we were too hungry to complain. Corn over charred and inedible. All food brought at once. Never asked if more drinks wanted. Used excuse that they were super busy but place emptied. And one of us, the one who complained, very sick the next day.
Food was also tasteless and uninteresting. Avoid.
We had 8:45 dinner reservations and at 10pm, we found ourselves to be one of only 2 tables still occupied and it was very evident that the staff wanted us out of there. They brought us the check before asking if we wanted dessert or coffee. When we asked for the dessert menu, we got an eye roll from the guy who we asked. (not sure if he was the bartender, waiter or manager) This was not a week night, but this was a SATURDAY night.
The place has a "Don't judge a book by it's cover" look. On the outside it looks old but once you get inside, you can see that it is actually very nice. It had a small restaurant in the city feel to it. I went with my girlfriend for our anniversary and it wasn't a busy time of day (~5:30pm) so the waitress said we were allowed to sit wherever we wanted.
Within a few (~5) minutes after sitting down, she took our orders. My girlfriend requested the beef tacos with soft flour shells and included a small dish of refried beans. I ordered the carnitas that had a small amount of guacamole at the top as well and 3 flour tortillas as a side of fried plantains that were topped with a sweet sauce. Both dishes came with a cup of red rice.
While waiting for the food, some people next to us ordered chips and salsa, so we decided to get that too! (Little did we know, that appetizer was free, but you had to ask for it. My girlfriend said that it might've said it in the menu somewhere) Our meals came in after about 10 minutes and it was delicious! We were both full before we even finished our food.
The only thing I didn't like too much was that the plantains were really soft, I prefer that they are crispier, but that is just preference. I also didn't like that the free chips and salsa weren't just given out and that they had to be ordered. Those two dislikes were definitely not enough to outweigh the trip there.
Overall a very good experience that is relatively inexpensive. I would definitely recommend to friends and family if they ever went out east of Long Island.
+ Great atmosphere inside
+ Friendly waitress
+ Great food
+ Relatively inexpensive
- (Preference) Plantains too soft
- Chips and salsa had to be asked for
Decided to try Mercado again after a year hoping the service would approve. No change. Arrived at 6:55 pm and didn't receive dinner until 8:05pm. We were told everyone came at one. Not true and the restaurant wasn't full. Couldn't get drink Odets correct, requests not completed. Owner was there. Useless sole. Offers no assistance to his staff. Walks around like a snail with so clue. Sorry, not coming back!
