Mercadito Kitchen is an upscale restaurant that serves authentic Tex-Mex cuisine in modern surrounds. Located within the Talbot hotel, this restaurant features a wide menu that runs the gamut from tacos, to spaghetti and meatballs. Diners rave about the mango guacamole, the chicken enchilada and the huevos ahogados. The menu also boasts a small but carefully selected list of wine.
Mercadito Kitchen serves a bustling Sunday brunch, which comes with live music and friendly crowd. Visit between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. during the week to take advantage of the restaurant's happy hour. Alongside its modern interior, Mercadito Kitchen features an outdoor dining space, which provides an ideal option for guests who wish to enjoy the view.
Interesting menu, delicious food beautifully presented. Exceeded our expectations! Great service, too.
Great weeknight and happy hour specials. Very good service and rusty drinks.
Guacamole is fresh and delicious
The food is the same (what menu items they've moved over to Gold Coast anyway -- they have to keep it watered down some for the hotel guests, at least that's what I presume), which is to say delicious. Quality and timing is very consistent -- far better than the location on Kinzie, by a mile. Service is excellent here. Staff is well-trained but they all have their own unique and wonderful personalities. Always professional. They don't need to turn up the music so loud on Sat nights though -- there are some big tables and it becomes impossible to hear what's said on the other side of the table. BUT -- one of my hands-down favorites, this place; am just lucky it's blocks from where I live. Love love love Mercadito.
Brunch was fabulous, food was amazing, service was great - staff was very attentive.
If you crave good Mexican cuisine in the Gold Coast try Mercadito. Good ambiance with broader than normal menu choices since also the hotel's restaurant. This was good for grandkids who had nice choices. Happy Hour till 7:00 with good value for drinks and apps. Had tacos, enchiladas and chile reinos and all very good as were deserts. Some nice specials during the week such as Taco Tuesday's. Our server, Olivia, was friendly and attentive. We will return.
Scrumptious dishes, great customer service and vibrant ambiance.
Good great, including chorizo omelette, fish tacos, french toast ( like honey topping) and chilaquiles ( could have been spicier). Bloody marys and mimosas were delicious too.
Perfect place to hang out with friends as the noise level is minimal and you can enjoy great food and drinks
Pros-
We were late to our reservation but they still honored it! Drinks were delicious. Meat was very well seasoned and prepared.
Cons-
We waited for a host to greet us for a long time. Service was extremely slow. Music was very loud, our waiter didn't even hear our order, had to repeat it a few times. The tacos are overly complicated. Also, no valet service for a location with a horrible parking situation.
Will probably not return to this location
We checked into the Talbot and headed in for dinner here. Reservations were NOT needed as there was plenty of open tables. I had the shrimp enchiladas and my husband had the chicken creole dish. Both were absolutely amazing. Great service! Beautiful place! We came back a couple nights later to get dessert to take up to the room. The chocolate mousse was good!
All of our meals were fantastic and the service was great. Definitely will be coming back.
Best thing to happen to Streeterville in ages! Would prefer if the menu were the same as the Kinzie St location but understand why it has to be watered down (for the hotel guests, this is the ground floor restaurant for a neighborhood hotel).
Great food, great people, great time
Music way to loud. And when we asked the waiter to peer it a bit he said there was nothing they could do. Not good enough
Incredible Food and Margaritas! A must. Will be back!
Wonderful atmosphere! Very experienced bartender! Salmon was amazing!
Food is as delicious as Mercadito River North - atmosphere at this location is more casual. Service is prompt and one of the best bottomless brunches in town - highly recommend.
We enjoyed a quick lunch here while taking a shopping break; the tortilla soup, guacamole and tomatillo salsa was authentic, as were the black beans & rice. We had excellent service and the restaurant is clean, well lit and pleasant for dining. We've also had breakfast here and that has been equally good, so my husband and I are happy to recommend Mercadito Kitchen.
Amazing happy hour - delicious cocktails! Very good tacos. Great place.
We sat outside at a high top table. It was a beautiful fall evening. Waiter suggested delicious drinks. Ordered the shrimp stuffed pablano pepper and the Pollo tacos. Everything was delicious. We also had the salsa trio to start. I loved this place and will return soon to try the Carne asada!
The food was average but the service was terrible! Our server was incredibly slow and absent even though we were only 1 of 3 tables in the entire restaurant. The food was subpar with the guacamole being the star. The margaritas were small but potent. It was our anniversary dinner but this was never acknowledged. We will not return.
Great atmosphere and low noise level mid day.
The margaritas, although expensive, was amazing.
The waitstaff at first seemed to want to rush us out, which was strange because at the time the restaurant was half-empty and it was hours before close. Then the waitstaff ignored repeated requests to both bus our table and to get the check. There's no excuse for that when the restaurant isn't busy.
Taco's were outstanding and Taco Tuesday's allows you to half the order and try more Taco varieties
The staff is great and the food and drinks are even better. Misty' sleeve is an amazing margarita.
Had the Mahi Mahi tacos and they were fantastic! Sit outside if it's nice out. No sugar in the margaritas, very clean drinks. Definitely recommend and will be back!
First time paying using OpenTable and it worked well. Only thing you have to do is ask for your table number and you are ready to roll. Saved the hassle of waiting for the bill!
I have been to Mercadito several times and love the variety of dishes and drinks. Mercadito Kitchen which is located at the Hotel Talbot offers a much more limited offering in both food and drinks. We had the apparently award winning margheritas that were good. Our food was more basic - guacamole, nachos, and tacos. All were tasty and satisfying. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
Had a great dining experience: great food, great service. Upscale Mexican fare at a reasonable price.
Go Mondays they have special prices! Really it worth it ...!
Awesome tacos and great drinks!
I never have a bad experience here. The food, service, ambiance and everything is fabulous. The Nachos are delicious!!!!!! Highly recommend to anyone and everyone. Neighborhood hot spot.
Two worlds, fried plantain!
Fresh chips, guacamoles, and salsas but got a huge bit of jalapeño that was not okay (at least for more sensitive tastebuds). Seating outside and inside and nice looking bar. Service friendly but nothing extraordinary. Fresh fish tacos but a little pricey for only 3 tacos but that's what you'd expect. Returned here during brunch time and it was still pretty good.
The margaritas and steak nachos are superb 👍
Great tacos and guac for Sunday lunch. Many neighborhood couples and small family sitting with their dogs under the table for a relaxed gathering. Highly recommend.
My friends and I were in Chicago for a getaway weekend, and we had a birthday in the group. The birthday girl has celiac's disease and Mexican is usually a safe bet for gluten free options. I called the restaurant and asked about gluten free options and while they did not have a specific gluten free menu, she said many items were naturally gluten free. Upon arrival, not only did we find out that something as standard as complimentary chips and salsa weren't offered (but are available for purchase), but they are not gluten free. We asked the waitress if the kitchen could make a chimichanga (also standard fare at a Mexican establishment) and she said "I'll ask the bartender." The food we did order was tasty - particularly the enchiladas, but I'd suggest reviewing the menu thoroughly before going to confirm there is enough standard offering to please a large group, especially if there are picky eaters and/or allergies in the group.
Went there for a date, simply for drinks and apps... Sat outside and it was beautiful weather and a nice setup. Food was great; craft cocktails were great. Service was very slow and inattentive however. It was not a super busy night, so that's a little frustrating. We weren't in a rush, so it wasn't bad, but if we were dashing to catch a show or something, I would have been very annoyed.
Awesome unique drinks and great tacos.
