It was ok just ok
My family went to Monotony for Easter Brunch and it was fantastic! We even got to meet the Easter Bunny, who was going to each table, handing out candy and taking photos. The food was excellent. Lots to choose from on the brunch menu for our picky eaters. And the price was great. We will definitely go back.
Absolutely delicious! Great service! Good spot! Can’t wait to go back!
We wanted to try something new, so we found Menotomy via a search on Open Table. It was late (~8ish) and we were in the mood for some good comfort food. Based on the suggestion on Open Table, we decided to venture away from our normal haunts and give Menotomy a try. We are so glad we did!
Parking is a bit tough, but what you would expect for Mass Ave in Arlington. Upon entering the restaurant, we fell in love with the vibe and decor. There was a live band on this particular Thursday and they were just doing sound check. Our waitress was Christine and despite the hustle and bustle and noise level, she was able to provide superior service where other servers may get orders incorrect or not take the time to ask for confirmation. Everything from our drinks, to appetizers, main course, and dessert, were divine. Service was spectacular and in the background was this great 5 piece band that played a wide range of music. With the high level of energy came same great dancing by the crowd, which was really an unexpected source of entertainment! Older couples who had some great moves, younger couples who were just having a good time! It couldn't have been better!
We will be back to Menotomy for more adventures, people watching, and maybe perhaps some dancing!
Menotomy Grill has fairly decent food. I would not describe it as high-end restaurant food; but good enough bar food. The drinks are great though. The brunch menu is somehow limited for a vegetarian and is not particularly healthy. I was disappointed to see that my favorite dish, eggs in purgatory was taken off the menu.
I been there before. Good service and good food.
We had another great night here. They keep the menu updated and deliver a great meal in a fun environment.
We came to celebrate St Patty’s Day and enjoyed the atmosphere. We needed reservations and were seated in the dining area. The bar area and high tables were more crowded and nicely separated with a partition that had a glass upper portion so it felt connected to the dining area. We started with humas and pita chips. It was one of the lighter menu choices on a pub food menu. For dinner We Enjoyed a Guinness , Guinness stew, and the salmon burger. Dessert was tasty Irish cake.
The place is lively and packed to the gills - make a reservation. Our waiter was friendly and checked in with us just the right amount of times. I had a Caesar salad with shrimp for $17 - the salad was fine, the shrimp was undercooked. One friend was happy with her fish and chips and the other said some pieces of his steak tips were too tough even at medium rare. The apple crisp for dessert was delicious. I would go back but I feel it’s overpriced.
Consistent food quality and service. Always great. Extremely friendly.
This was our first time here, and we were delighted! Walking in, we were greeted warmly and the service was fantastic! Great atmosphere, from the cozy fireplace to the pleasant surroundings. We will be back!
I have dined at upwards of 50 restaurants through OpenTable, and this is the first time I have felt compelled to leave a review.
First off, the positives:
The restaurant building itself is nice, and the interior is decorated with various Massachusetts memorabilia. There are a number of large TVs with local sports on. There's a large bar, and a decent selection of drinks.
Unfortunately, the food and service at the restaurant were subpar. I made a reservation for 7pm on a Wednesday for myself, hoping to grab a quick bite after work. When I arrived I was told that there were no tables for one available, and that I could either be seated at the bar, or wait up to 30 minutes. To be fair, the restaurant was quite busy. Because I was staying within walking distance, I chose to wait. The wait ended up being only 15 minutes, but I was not amused that I was effectively treated as a walk-in. This is not to mention that I was marked a no show by the restaurant, and had to contact OpenTable to avoid being dinged.
I ordered the fried dill pickles, and the cavatelli pasta. Both portions were quite large.
The fried pickles came in a french fry stand type holder. Because the wrapping paper was too thin, the oil from the batter kept dripping on the table. The pickles themselves were poorly fried. The breading on the vast majority of the pickles had flaked off, and was generally too thin relative to the pickle. When a waiter came to collect my half-eaten pickles, I mentioned the dripping to them, and they made no acknowledgement of the problem, nor did they wipe off the growing puddle of oil on the table.
The cavatelli came in a large bowl. The pasta itself was fine, but for a $26 bowl of pasta listed as having "duck confit", there were sparingly few pieces of duck to be found. There needed to be a lot more toppings to balance out the thick pasta.
I really hope that my experience was an anomaly. Based on how I was served, and the food that I ate, I can't see myself returning.
Overall the food and drink and service are very good. Two negatives are the lighting which is to dark making it hard to read the menu and the level of noise which is pretty Hugh.
This is a fun place to go with good solid dinner options, great beer selection and nice ambiance. The staff is friendly and attentive. I always enjoy going their for dinner.
We had grilled chicken BLT and the roasted half chicken. Both were very good. Waiter was wonderful. Attentive, friendly and his recommendation for the chocolate pecan pie was great!
I've come to this restaurant many times and it is consistently great.
My 5 friends and I came here the other day and the food and atmosphere was amazing. I will definitely be coming back here, even if it's just by myself at the bar.
Our first visit here, after seeing a movie down the street. The French onion soup was delicious. The French dip sandwich needed more meat; I'd pay a couple of bucks more if that mean more roast beef. I liked having the option of having a salad instead of fries. My wife said her quinoa bowl had great ingredients but lacked any seasoning.
Unfortunately this was one of the poorer restaurant experiences we've had in a while. It took 30 minutes for the soup to come, and when it did, half the portion was cold, like it had half been under a lamp. We also had the salmon burger and Greek salad, and the salmon burger was OK but undercooked, and the Greek salad was just very mediocre... Actually the Greek salad you can buy at market basket is better! We hardly ever saw the server and when we did we had to flag her down for basic requests, like getting a drink refill after an hour. Maybe they were understaffed, but this was definitely a "miss" for us.
Appetizer of Vietnamese Pork Belly was small and more fat than meat. When the waiter was informed he said he would “tell the kitchen”. However the rest of the meal was OK. The restaurant and meals were Satisfactory. The waiter was friendly and efficient.
We've eaten at Menotomy Grill many times because it's in our neighborhood and serves decent food. Love the salmon. Often, we feel rushed. As soon as we sit down, before we've even said hello to our dining companions, we are immediately asked for our drink order. We'd like a few minutes to decide what to eat first. During the meal, servers keep walking by to see if we are finished. Immediately, after our last bite, our plates are cleared and we are asked about desert. This last experience was completely the opposite. We were at the table for 25 minutes before our drinks arrived. The waitress explained that she had been caught up with playing with a baby. It was 1 hour 10 minutes from the time we were seated to when our food was brought. We inquired why it was taking so long after about 45 minutes, and the waitress said she would check. She came back 10 minutes later and said the owner would come by. He only came with the food 15 minutes later and dropped it off with no explanation or apology. When we inquired about the wait, he said defensively that the order only took 25 minutes from the time it was put in. We explained that we had been seated for one hour and 10 minutes. No apology. This experience left a bad taste in our mouths.
The Menotomy Grill has quickly become a family favorite since we moved to Arlington last summer. The food is spectacular, the servers are friendly and attentive, and it’s a great place to sit down for a beautiful meal in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. We especially love coming in winter when there’s a roaring fire in the fireplace. The pan-seared salmon with pistachio gremolata is to-die-for, as are the Brussels sprouts with bacon and sweet potato fries. We love this place!
We sat at a hi top table, very happy waitress. Evening Menu specials were delicious. We had 2 of them and the puff pastry pot pie was sold out!
Very nice evening good ambiance.
I always enjoy the food and drink at Menotomy Grill. The service is pleasant and very efficient - maybe a bit too efficient, as my wife and I are typically walking out the door about an hour after arriving. On this visit, we had drinks, an app, and entrees, and we were out in 45 minutes flat. The entrees came out while we were still eating our appetizer; I always prefer a few minutes to relax between courses even at casual places. I understand the need to turn tables at a busy place, but at $100-150 for dinner for two, I don't like feeling rushed.
This place was awesome! The food was a little pricey for the portion sizes, but it was delicious.
We will be back!
Good food, excellent food, reasonably accessible parking
They have great live music there on Thursday nights... very talented professional musicians. No cover charge. Check their website.
The roast chicken was a little overdone and a little disappointing but the dessert was fantastic...it was called rum ball pudding...it was chocolate pudding with chocolate bits and rum with rum whipped cream...delish! This is not my first time there and I have enjoyed my meals in the past.
Our waitress was very understanding.
Busy friday night. But with online reservations we got right in. Wonderful food and good selection of local craft beer!
We had salads which were plentiful and tasty, especially adding shrimp. Price, was right for lunch. Will do it again.
Special menu for New Year's Eve was lovely - along with the live music, which can't be beat! A great value and resource for Arlington!
Good local restaurant. Menu has sufficient options for dinner meals and sandwiches.
Waiter was attentive without being overly so. We let the waiter know that we were not in a hurry and he served us at our pace. Other times we've eaten there when we wanted quicker service, that was also handled nicely.
Our food orders have always been prepared as we ordered, food served hot.
We have been able to have table conversations without being distracted by the overall noise level being a problem.
We've been to the Menotomy Grill several times over the last year and will continue to return on occasion.
No creme brûlée at 7pm . Major disappointment. Steak tips were rather tasteless and stringy. My husband enjoyed the Menotomy burger though.
This is a great place but much better ambiance in the evenings especially when they have live jazz music. During the day, it’s more like a sports bar- and just another one of Boston’s loud bar restaurant.
I was very disappointed with the "special" of the night. The meatloaf and gravy were too salty. Did not like the ketchup on the meatloaf. My friend had the cod cake dinner and was
also disappointed. Cod cakes were bland and the cole slaw was missing something. Not impressed. Rib appetizer $11 for 4 ribs was not a great deal. I have had much better. Although the meat came right off the ribs, they did not have much flavor and were just covered with BBQ sauce. Sangria was nothing special. Will not likely be back any time soon.
This was my 3rd time at Menotomy I do love it here, great staff even better cocktails! Food was excellent and came out relatively fast even though it was very busy...the mussels appetizer is a must every Time!
We had the most unpleasant end to a dinner with friends. We were abruptly asked to leave the restaurant after paying our bill as the owner interrupted someone at our table because he said he had a reservation waiting for the table. I recognize it’s a business, but we found this approach rude. It’s a shame because we enjoy the restaurant, but we won’t be going back after being treated this way.
Good food. Service was friendly. Noise level average. I would visit again for lunch and dinner.
