Menotomy Grill & Tavern
Settled in 1635. The village was incorporated as the town of Arlington in 1867 following the civil
war as a tribute to Arlington National Cemetery.
Our vision for Menotomy Grill & Tavern is to bring the tavern concept back to the town of Arlington by creating a rustic grill capitalizing on the coziness of a brick house featuring fireplace, open kitchen,
exposed beams, large planked hard wood floors, and historical artifacts and photos. Fostering a
loyal following will be the key to our success, so we welcome you to join us on Facebook for news, special offers and exciting events.
My SO and I loved the food and the ambience and our server was nice, but it took a really long time to get our food. We waited a full hour before our meals came. I would recommend but not if you are tight on time.
Everything was perfect. A truly great place to eat, drink and hang out with friends
Food was excellent and very generous portions. Our waiter was very gracious and accommodating.
Went last year and was disappointed with the noise and food. Gave it a try this year, and was very pleased. We had a margarita pizza and salad with a pinot noir. The meal was delicious and the noise level was fine. Looking forward to going back to Menotomy Grill.
Food concepts and ingredients, as well as preparation and plating were pretty underwhelming. Draft beer selection good. Might try again.
We visited for Saturday brunch. Food was generally good, but the hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict tasted like the cook substituted vinegar for lemon juice. Service was intrusive and we felt rushed, even though the place was not at all busy. Server went over specials before our entire party arrived and then had to do it again, came back multiple times in quick succession asking if we were ready to order, started clearing plates before all of us were done, brought the check while one person was still eating, and rushed us to pay the bill.
I have been to this restaurant several times...this time I did not find the quality of the food to be as good. I had roast chicken and it was overcooked...I couldn't even bite through the outer chicken and skin on some parts it was so tough. The flavor of the dish was not memorable either. Which is what my son said about his food as well (he got a lamb burger). The rest of the food was OK. The table we were sitting at also had extra legs underneath and there was not much room for our legs and the bench seats we were sitting on had multiple cushions where the joins happened to be where both my son and I were sitting which made it uncomfortable...I had always sat at tables with hairs before so had never encountered this before. Usually I really like the food at this restaurant but this time we were disappointed.
menu items cooked perfectly & dishes ordered with special instructions and were delivered exactly as asked.
Excellent service and delicious cod cakes. Will go aga6and order the same.
This is the 2nd time I've been to Menotomy. The first time several years ago the food was "meh". Not much in this visit has changed my mind. Dinner started off good with brisk and friendly service, the apps were good and drinks came out quickly. However, my burger that I asked medium rare came out well done. Since everyone else had their meals and I didn't want to wait til they cooked another one (which is always annoying), I ate 2/3 of it. Another diner ordered the mussels and said that a few of them were bad (tasted off and rubbery). The mussels were sent back. One other diner stated her fish was overcooked but for the same reason as me, ate some of it. All of these complaints were given to the server who simply shrugged and appeared annoyed. At no point did a manager come to the table. We did order two desserts, which were yummy. But everyone agreed that the desserts, at the very least, should have been on the house. It's sad that a restaurant has forgotten that it's in the service industry. One of the diners is from Arlington and stated that they will not be back. It's unfortunate.
The overall service was very slow for a not very busy night. 2 orders at the table where done wrong and came to the table wrong. When they corrected the mistake one guy got cold steak tips and the fries that came with my burger were cold. Also when my order came back corrected the server never checked back to make sure everything was ok. The server was slow and did not check up on us in a timely manner.
Overall the experience was sub-par for a restaurant of have been to several times and almost always have been happy.
Excellent menu and good service
Honored our reservation on a busy Saturday evening
Fun atmosphere! Great food!
Great find! Has a chic neighborhood feel. Food was great. My only complaint was the screens (and there weren't that many), but that's just me.
The food was great, the overall experience was good.
We must have had a new server. It took a long time before he can to the table, then gave the impression he wanted our complete order immediately. We ordered drinks and 2 appetizers and said we need a few more minutes to decide on entrees. The appetizers arrived after a longish time, no drinks. After 5-10 minutes, drinks arrived. 2 out of 4 were wrong.
They were fixed, but took a while.
Entrees were ordered and came promptly.
All food was very good, just service was off. Clearly a newbie that still has a lot of practice/training to do.
In the past we've had better meals there. But this one was mediocre.
We ordered the salmon cooked medium, and when it came, the inside was so pink it seemed raw. When we pointed this out to our waiter, he said (exact quote) "Oh well." We left 1/4 of our dish uneaten and the restaurant didn't do anything to make that up to us.
The mussels were delicious, and so were the side veggies. But the pork tacos tasted like they had a pound of sugar per taco, and more sauce than meat, almost inedible.
We felt hurried by the people busing the table, who kept coming to grab things before we finished them.
At the end of the meal the waiter ran our credit card for another table's bill, an amount twice as big as ours. When he re-did it for the right amount, he didn't seem very apologetic. He definitely belongs in a different profession, one that doesn't involve any customer service.
Fantastic food and atmosphere! Becoming one of our favorite places to go when we are in the area!
Good food. Nice relaxed place to meet friends and family in Arlington.
Sat outdoors very nice. Great service. Lots of interesting foods. I just had a wedge and beans side tho.
The food was great, service AMAZINGbut the nouse level was above normal. We had a hard time with conversations.
One of the best restaurants in our area. The menu has something for pretty much everybody. Service is great. Good for lunch, brunch and dinner with friends or business associates.
We have been to Menotomy many times, always good but service has sometimes been slow. This time, service was super speedy and we enjoyed several of the new menu items: the Forbidden Rice Bowl with steak tips added and the Vietnamese Sausage Ban Mi sandwich - both were excellent!!! Can't wait to go back again soon!
Overrated and over priced and the food is just ok
Our server was phenomenal, upbeat and charming. The food was great, the cocktails were good, the wine pour was generous (we are getting used to skimpy pours, so I thought I would mention that bonus generosity that put the icing on our happy cake.)
We ate outside on a beautiful night, the patio offered a quieter experience (there are speakers outside but we weren't overwhelmed with the volume) we like to have dinner and TALK.
Nice nice experience, and again special thanks to the server, a lovely woman with an incredible smile, whose upbeat attitude helped make the evening even better for us.
Nice atmosphere, convenient location, friendly staff, but on several occasions now I have found the food to be only mediocre and usually overdone with salt and flavorings. Probably won't be going back.
I love the atmosphere of the Menotomy Grill. It was the perfect way to have dinner before heading into Boston via Alewife! The only thing I would change is to make an official "dance" area since they have live music on Thursday nights. It's awkward to dance in the narrow area people use. Maybe the personal friends and guests who already love the night's music of the performer/band could sit back and let others get to know their fav!
Menotomy Grill is just what you want from a relaxed place in the neighborhood: warm vibe, easygoing food done very well, good wines ... Only the cocktails could use some kick upwards, but that doesn't detract from the overall good feeling.
We had a great family dinner here on a Sat. night. The food and service were excellent and we enjoyed the rustic ambience.
It was a great place for casual business lunch
The noise level at Menotomy Grille continues to be far too high for my taste. We had a waiter who was actually overly attentive and came to take our order immediately after he served our drinks. He kept returning but finally understood that we wanted to enjoy our cocktails before ordering our meals. This balance between being attentive and hounding the customer I am sure is very difficult to achieve. I think he was new - I actually had just been there a week before and during that visit our waitress understood right away that we wanted time to enjoy drinks.
All in all I really like Menotomy - the roasted chicken is fabulous and what I usually order but last time I had the steak tips - perfect! And loved the Parmesan fries. Keep up the good work.
The music was too loud, and Iike loud music! And management should recognize that the music brings in the crowds and the crowds like to dance so clearing that area in front of the band would be ideal.
Nice local grill.
The experience was fine—we were looking for comfortable and low key with reasonable menu prices and choices and that’s what we got. The Negroni cocktail ordered by 2 in our group was only so-so, a “disappointment.” The chorizo slices in the otherwise good PEI mussels appetizer dish were tough and not great. Most of the main dishes were not great, just “good” or so-so. The overall experience was a little lackadaisical, but maybe that's because it was a Sunday night? Overall, it was okay, comfortably informal, casual, and satisfying, just not great.
Great service and a fantastic brunch. The best MonteCristo!
Food was fabulous! A group of 5, we all enjoyed our meals. Waiter was attentive, drinks were great, music / dancing....wonderful evening. Highly recommend!
Great restaurant except when there is a live band that is obscenely loud.
Everything was perfect except it took 45 minutes for our order to come out.
Great place with an imaginative menu. Will visit again.
Great meal, excellent service (Billy) and good beer selection. My out-of-town client was very impressed as well. Will come again.
Horrible service!!!! Will not go back!!
