Mendenhall Inn Ratings and Reviews
Appetizers were great drinks were excellent soup and salad were great we had the main course was the stuffed lobster with crabmat lobster was tasteless and the crabmeat had to much filler in it, both of us didn't really enjoy it. Other wise we will be back but won't get that again great atmosphere.
Visited on New Year's Eve for the first time. Returned on Valentine's Day because we enjoyed the experience so much on New Year's. Excellent food, very pleasant service, and very nice setting. Our dinner was pleasant and unrushed. I would go again. Also found the Open Table app to be very easy to use.
When our waitress (Veronica) was taking our order she wasn't writing it down and I when I commented she said oh maybe I should. Ok that was the down fall. I let go she took my wine glass before I was finished. She brings our entree's and mine was completely wrong. We also ordered salads and she goes I will bring your salad while you wait for your dinner and looks at my husband and goes do you still want your salad. we had already been waiting a long time for our meal and he said no that is okay. He ordered the queen prime rib medium rare and I guess she forgot to right down the medium part but he ate it anyway. I ordered bake potato with my dinner and received mash potatoes after she got it wrong the first time we reminded her again and she still brought me mashed potatoes. My daughter had joined us and she had to leave before my half correct dinner arrived. So we will not be back and we still have a $50 gift card to use. I was expecting a great time and dinner and it was ruined by the very poor service.
We really like the Mendenhall Inn. My wife had the sirloin steak and it was excellent. I had the porterhouse steak which was the special for the evening and for the price, I was disappointed. It was a very large cut, but there was more fat and tendons than I expected. I know a porterhouse has that which gives it its flavor, but this was very difficult to eat. I do have to say the sauce was very good. The rest of the meal was fine.
Mendenhall Inn Restaurant - fine dining at its best, pro servers, superior entrees
In a separate review, we note that we had an average experience at the Inn which is part of this property. The restaurant is an absolute homerun on so many levels. The ambience of the main dining room is perfect with the fireplace, fine linens and seating options. The waitstaff are superb in their knowledge, timely service and willingness to make you have a memorable dining experience. Tuesday is “Fish Night” so I had the cod served in a baking dish and blended with asiago cheese. It was out-of-the-oven hot, tasty and superb. The mashed potatoes suffered from being room temp. The accompanying small Caesar salad was a nice bonus to the entree. My partner had the 8 oz filet mignon. It was tasty, high quality but undercooked at medium rare when she ordered medium. Because it was our anniversary, we were served a complimentary ice cream, fresh fruit, chocolate lava cake dessert to share. If you are in the Longwood Gardens/Chadds Ford, PA area, don’t miss this dining gem!!
Best brunch anywhere. After trying many well reviewed brunch places we decided Mendenhall is our favorite. From now on, we are having all of our special brunches here. The best bananas foster, great service, comfy chairs, beautiful dining room, quiet and champagne!
We thoroughly enjoyed this first time visit to Mendenhall Inn. The Sunday Brunch offered a broad selection of delicious quality foods. The service was perfect. Although the cost is pricey $30 plus, it was worth the ride for us after Sunday Church Service. The menu included the usual shrimp, lox and oysters,.The other selections were very attractive and high quality including the custom omelets, bananas foster and even optional special order entrees.
Planned brunch as a way to get together with in-laws, who we missed seeing over the holidays. My husband and I had been to brunch in December and it was so memorable we knew it was the right place. We were seated at a wonderful table, just far enough from other diners to be comfortable. We enjoyed the Sunday brunch - for 3 hours! Our waiter, Noe, was exceptional - took time to chat with us, kept our drinks filled, and our plates cleared. The food on the buffet was marvelous. One of the best seafood spreads in the area for sure. The lobster salad was particularly memorable. I would return just for that! Crab claws, smoked fish, oysters, mussels, shrimp - and that was just the seafood options! The omelet station was spot on as was the chocolate tower. Of course we had to indulge in the banana's foster made to order - spectacular. Cannot recommend highly enough if you want a dining experience in a lovely venue.
The renovations to this amazing restaurant have made it even better and we thought it was perfect before. There is better use of space and more intimacy in the new layout. We had a party of ten and everyone enjoyed what he/she ordered. The salmon was outstanding. Prime rib of each size was praised. Seafood platter was said to be delicious. As always, the snapper soup was excellent. Even though it was hard to find room for dessert, most managed because the desserts were so appealing. Service was very attentive and personalized. We truly enjoyed this special evening and would definitely recommend the Mendenhall Inn and Restaurant.
We had a very enjoyable brunch with friends and our server, Lori, couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. It was a great way to celebrate birthdays ( 2 ) in our party of 6. We were not rushed at all and had a great table by the window which afforded us both privacy and and ambiance.
My sons and I took my In-laws here for Sunday Brunch. It was an outstanding Brunch. The seafood spread was absolutely scrumptious. Oysters on the half shell, steamed shrimp, stone crab claws, and way too many more seafood based choices. And then there was a great salad bar with a very tasty crab bisque. Truly, just too many things to list. Suffice it to say that you will get your money's worth if you enjoy food. They also offer (for an additional $4.00 only) a few entree choices from the menu. But we said no way we could have eaten any more. BUT...if I lived near there (we were visiting), I'd opt to order an entree and just take it home for dinner. THAT is a no-brainer at only $4.00. All in all a very nice time, meal, and day. Highly recommend it! Oh, did I mention that mimosas or champagne were free flowing the entire time? ;-)
The calamari appetizer was very tasty with a light and crusty coating. Plan on sharing it - the serving size is very generous. Our Caesar salad was also very tasty with a rich creamy dressing. The Surf and Turf entree special of sirloin and lobster tail was fine, but I was disappointed that the lobster was a bit overdone and tough. We enjoyed Bananas Foster prepared table side for dessert - beautiful! Be ready because this dessert does have a strong liquor flavor. Our server Andy was terrific!
Comfortable and quiet enough that we could enjoy each other in conversation. Stuffed mushroom appetizer delightful, salad very nice. My lobster was lovely, but spouses's filet tasted a bit like liver (which I like but not when I order filet!). Service excellent, including a second server with a bot of free time who answered some questions about the history of the area. Molten fudge cake was a delightful ending. We'll be back.
Our experience was very good, appetizers and dinner was delicious the one thing we have to say is our waiter did not seem to understand English very well. We ask if salad was included with the dinner and he said yes, I ask him again because I felt he was just saying yes. When we ordered dinner we had to point out what we ordered on the menu. When we viewed our bill we were charged for them, I just let it go because we had to be somewhere else, I felt it would delay us even more and be a major problem trying to explain to him on what he told us. The young man did a very good job with everything else.
To the management please make sure your staff understands English, your next guest might not be so generous.
Was in town for a long weekend getaway and thought The Mendenhall Inn would be a nice place for a quiet early dinner on New Year's Eve. Although the food was wonderful, the restaurant was very noisy and did not lend itself to a romantic dinner for two. I was actually shocked by this. The room certainly was small enough and the crowd old enough for a quiet dinner, but somehow it was a cacophony. Furthermore, the service was relatively slow, which would have been fine if there was a romantic ambience achieved.
The French onion soup was a meal in itself--delicious and very satisfying! I loved it! The duck half was interesting--one would think a half duck would include breast, thigh, wing and leg. Nope--two legs and two thighs. Odd. But the dish was tasty and well presented.
Also, had the jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab imperial. Very, very good!
I had called ahead because the website stated there was a prix fixe option on Sundays. They put me on hold and assured me the prix fixe option would be available even though it was NYE and they would be having a Gala later (which we chose not to stay for). Nope--not an option. But in retrospect, we liked what we chose and were satisfied with our food.
I liked the option to get a 5 or 8oz pour on the wine. Nice.
Would go back for the great food, but would hope to have more peace. I felt the meal was delicious and a relatively good value for a special night like NYE!
We have been to this restaurant a number of times for special occasions and we have never been disappointed, until the other day. We went with two other couples for an early dinner on New Years Eve. The evening started out fine, but the service was noticeably slower than what we here used to. My husband ordered the prime rib and asked for it to be prepared medium-well. He has to eat it that way for medical reasons. The rest of us ordered halibut or salmon. The fish dinners came out all together, but no prime rib. When it finally came, it was rare. By this time, all of the tables in the room were full and our waitress was overly stretched as she was taking care of all of them. When we got her attention, we sent back the prime rib, explaining that he had asked for it to be medium-well. Time went by, and everyone but my husband is eating. His dinner came back and it was still not medium-well, so he sent it back again. More time went by, and the rest of us were almost finished with our dinners, even though we were eating slowly. The prime rib came back a third time and it still was not right. By this time he no longer wanted it. If the chef could not prepare the prime rib as he ordered, my husband should have been advised so that he could have ordered something else. He, and two other people at the table never got the second drinks that they had asked for. They did bring everyone a glass of champagne, which was nice, but certainly did not make up for the fact that my husband had no dinner at all that night, just a salad and two rolls. For the caliber of this restaurant, our experience was truly unacceptable. I spoke with an assistant manager before we left. He took my phone number and assured me that the manager would be in touch. We have not received a phone call. We will be most likely eating our special occasion meals elsewhere.
We have be coming here for 18 years to celebrate our anniversary! Unfortunately, we were unhappy with the food, and it was so hot in the room we were in we asked the waitress if they could turn the heat back, but they had a fire going so they turned the air on. We both had filet, asked for well done and medium well and both came out pretty rare! Neither of us finished our meal and we asked for containers to take it home for our animals. Neither of us wanted to complain, and didn’t, but since we didn’t finish our meal, and our server could see how red the meat was, she brought it to the manager’s attention. He came to our table and asked about our meal so we told him it was ok. He offered us free dessert. We usually get the bananas foster, but we just got ice cream, we didn’t want to stay much longer. I don’t know if the restaurant is under new management, but it seemed different. We always sat in the main dining room, but were seated in a large room with larger groups of people. We were surprised how empty the restaurant was!! Maybe it was just an off night, but I think we will look for another place to celebrate next year!
The food servings were not as good or as elegant s we have had in the past. We have celebrated special occasions at Mendenhall Inn over the years, and this is the first year we have been disappointed in the food.
The server "Erika" was wonderful but for $500 for six people, I expected and have received better, in the past.
Sorry to say we will not be going back and that is disappointing for us.
Server was great great the service was terrible. Way understaffed. Waited 20 minutes to get a server for a drink order and then 10 more minutes for the drinks. They had run out of a standard bar bourbon so had to order something else. Immediately ordered our meal because we could see what was happening. After waiting again the appetizers came and our server said we would have wait 15 more minutes if we wanted the snapper soup that we had ordered. The server handled it well and had brought a cup of the chowder if we wanted to switch and not wait. Chowder was good but nothing special. Finally got our entrees. Seafood entree were excellent, but the filet was terrible. Too many flaws to make it a good dining experience. Case of good staff and nice place with terrible management. Probably go back for bar food, but never for a dining experience.
This restaurant was the slowest place I have ever been too. Dinner took one hour and 40 minutes to arrive. The lobster special was good but my wife's halibut was so dry as to be inedible. My sister's steak ordered as medium came out rare. I complained to waitress who in a heavily accented voice said,to my ears, that an adjustment would be made to the bill, that never happened. When asked about the slow service I got the usual and annoying response " the kitchen got hit with a large group". I cannot understand how anyone can accept that type service for those prices.
Our family of three adults went to the Inn the past two Christmas Eves and enjoyed it. This time the service was so slow we missed a planned event afterward. The waitress was pleasant and apologetic but it seemed the problem was the kitchen. Even the manager was clearing tables to be able to seat long-waiting guests. Two of us had prime rib which was good but my crab imperial was burned on top and dry. Very disappointing!
