Mendenhall Inn Ratings and Reviews
The renovations to this amazing restaurant have made it even better and we thought it was perfect before. There is better use of space and more intimacy in the new layout. We had a party of ten and everyone enjoyed what he/she ordered. The salmon was outstanding. Prime rib of each size was praised. Seafood platter was said to be delicious. As always, the snapper soup was excellent. Even though it was hard to find room for dessert, most managed because the desserts were so appealing. Service was very attentive and personalized. We truly enjoyed this special evening and would definitely recommend the Mendenhall Inn and Restaurant.
We had a very enjoyable brunch with friends and our server, Lori, couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. It was a great way to celebrate birthdays ( 2 ) in our party of 6. We were not rushed at all and had a great table by the window which afforded us both privacy and and ambiance.
My sons and I took my In-laws here for Sunday Brunch. It was an outstanding Brunch. The seafood spread was absolutely scrumptious. Oysters on the half shell, steamed shrimp, stone crab claws, and way too many more seafood based choices. And then there was a great salad bar with a very tasty crab bisque. Truly, just too many things to list. Suffice it to say that you will get your money's worth if you enjoy food. They also offer (for an additional $4.00 only) a few entree choices from the menu. But we said no way we could have eaten any more. BUT...if I lived near there (we were visiting), I'd opt to order an entree and just take it home for dinner. THAT is a no-brainer at only $4.00. All in all a very nice time, meal, and day. Highly recommend it! Oh, did I mention that mimosas or champagne were free flowing the entire time? ;-)
The calamari appetizer was very tasty with a light and crusty coating. Plan on sharing it - the serving size is very generous. Our Caesar salad was also very tasty with a rich creamy dressing. The Surf and Turf entree special of sirloin and lobster tail was fine, but I was disappointed that the lobster was a bit overdone and tough. We enjoyed Bananas Foster prepared table side for dessert - beautiful! Be ready because this dessert does have a strong liquor flavor. Our server Andy was terrific!
Comfortable and quiet enough that we could enjoy each other in conversation. Stuffed mushroom appetizer delightful, salad very nice. My lobster was lovely, but spouses's filet tasted a bit like liver (which I like but not when I order filet!). Service excellent, including a second server with a bot of free time who answered some questions about the history of the area. Molten fudge cake was a delightful ending. We'll be back.
Pitiful. Where should I start?! Got every single part of our order wrong. App, dinner and desert. Halibut was horribly dry. Sirloin was like a sole of a shoe. Icy parking lot. Just bad. So bad. Have nothing good to say unfortunately. Water was good.
Our experience was very good, appetizers and dinner was delicious the one thing we have to say is our waiter did not seem to understand English very well. We ask if salad was included with the dinner and he said yes, I ask him again because I felt he was just saying yes. When we ordered dinner we had to point out what we ordered on the menu. When we viewed our bill we were charged for them, I just let it go because we had to be somewhere else, I felt it would delay us even more and be a major problem trying to explain to him on what he told us. The young man did a very good job with everything else.
To the management please make sure your staff understands English, your next guest might not be so generous.
Was in town for a long weekend getaway and thought The Mendenhall Inn would be a nice place for a quiet early dinner on New Year's Eve. Although the food was wonderful, the restaurant was very noisy and did not lend itself to a romantic dinner for two. I was actually shocked by this. The room certainly was small enough and the crowd old enough for a quiet dinner, but somehow it was a cacophony. Furthermore, the service was relatively slow, which would have been fine if there was a romantic ambience achieved.
The French onion soup was a meal in itself--delicious and very satisfying! I loved it! The duck half was interesting--one would think a half duck would include breast, thigh, wing and leg. Nope--two legs and two thighs. Odd. But the dish was tasty and well presented.
Also, had the jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab imperial. Very, very good!
I had called ahead because the website stated there was a prix fixe option on Sundays. They put me on hold and assured me the prix fixe option would be available even though it was NYE and they would be having a Gala later (which we chose not to stay for). Nope--not an option. But in retrospect, we liked what we chose and were satisfied with our food.
I liked the option to get a 5 or 8oz pour on the wine. Nice.
Would go back for the great food, but would hope to have more peace. I felt the meal was delicious and a relatively good value for a special night like NYE!
We have been to this restaurant a number of times for special occasions and we have never been disappointed, until the other day. We went with two other couples for an early dinner on New Years Eve. The evening started out fine, but the service was noticeably slower than what we here used to. My husband ordered the prime rib and asked for it to be prepared medium-well. He has to eat it that way for medical reasons. The rest of us ordered halibut or salmon. The fish dinners came out all together, but no prime rib. When it finally came, it was rare. By this time, all of the tables in the room were full and our waitress was overly stretched as she was taking care of all of them. When we got her attention, we sent back the prime rib, explaining that he had asked for it to be medium-well. Time went by, and everyone but my husband is eating. His dinner came back and it was still not medium-well, so he sent it back again. More time went by, and the rest of us were almost finished with our dinners, even though we were eating slowly. The prime rib came back a third time and it still was not right. By this time he no longer wanted it. If the chef could not prepare the prime rib as he ordered, my husband should have been advised so that he could have ordered something else. He, and two other people at the table never got the second drinks that they had asked for. They did bring everyone a glass of champagne, which was nice, but certainly did not make up for the fact that my husband had no dinner at all that night, just a salad and two rolls. For the caliber of this restaurant, our experience was truly unacceptable. I spoke with an assistant manager before we left. He took my phone number and assured me that the manager would be in touch. We have not received a phone call. We will be most likely eating our special occasion meals elsewhere.
We have be coming here for 18 years to celebrate our anniversary! Unfortunately, we were unhappy with the food, and it was so hot in the room we were in we asked the waitress if they could turn the heat back, but they had a fire going so they turned the air on. We both had filet, asked for well done and medium well and both came out pretty rare! Neither of us finished our meal and we asked for containers to take it home for our animals. Neither of us wanted to complain, and didn’t, but since we didn’t finish our meal, and our server could see how red the meat was, she brought it to the manager’s attention. He came to our table and asked about our meal so we told him it was ok. He offered us free dessert. We usually get the bananas foster, but we just got ice cream, we didn’t want to stay much longer. I don’t know if the restaurant is under new management, but it seemed different. We always sat in the main dining room, but were seated in a large room with larger groups of people. We were surprised how empty the restaurant was!! Maybe it was just an off night, but I think we will look for another place to celebrate next year!
The food servings were not as good or as elegant s we have had in the past. We have celebrated special occasions at Mendenhall Inn over the years, and this is the first year we have been disappointed in the food.
The server "Erika" was wonderful but for $500 for six people, I expected and have received better, in the past.
Sorry to say we will not be going back and that is disappointing for us.
Server was great great the service was terrible. Way understaffed. Waited 20 minutes to get a server for a drink order and then 10 more minutes for the drinks. They had run out of a standard bar bourbon so had to order something else. Immediately ordered our meal because we could see what was happening. After waiting again the appetizers came and our server said we would have wait 15 more minutes if we wanted the snapper soup that we had ordered. The server handled it well and had brought a cup of the chowder if we wanted to switch and not wait. Chowder was good but nothing special. Finally got our entrees. Seafood entree were excellent, but the filet was terrible. Too many flaws to make it a good dining experience. Case of good staff and nice place with terrible management. Probably go back for bar food, but never for a dining experience.
This restaurant was the slowest place I have ever been too. Dinner took one hour and 40 minutes to arrive. The lobster special was good but my wife's halibut was so dry as to be inedible. My sister's steak ordered as medium came out rare. I complained to waitress who in a heavily accented voice said,to my ears, that an adjustment would be made to the bill, that never happened. When asked about the slow service I got the usual and annoying response " the kitchen got hit with a large group". I cannot understand how anyone can accept that type service for those prices.
Our family of three adults went to the Inn the past two Christmas Eves and enjoyed it. This time the service was so slow we missed a planned event afterward. The waitress was pleasant and apologetic but it seemed the problem was the kitchen. Even the manager was clearing tables to be able to seat long-waiting guests. Two of us had prime rib which was good but my crab imperial was burned on top and dry. Very disappointing!
We dined early evening on Christmas Eve . The inn was tastefully decorated to reflect the season. The food was good and reasonably priced. The service was good but I thought the dry humor of the waiter was a bit condescending. I certainly don’t think my empty plate needs a comment . The banana foster was exceptional. I will return and hope I have a different server.
Food and service was exceptional. The overall cost was excellent. They didn’t have a signature drink for Christmas Eve like they have in the past. After I told the waitress what I have had been served there previously, she had the bartender fix a festive cocktail that was excellent.
We love dining at the Mendenhall Inn and will continue to do so in the future.
I made my reservation one month in advance. We arrived on time and when I gave my name they looked at me weird. I assume they didn’t have my reservation. The young hostess tried to seat us in the bar room. I asked why and reminded her how long the reservation was for and she was rude to me. She sat us in a nice room and then the Matre d moved us to a less desirable room with larger groups and it was quite loud. The wait staff was great to us but our food was mediocre at best with no flavor and it must have sat under hot lamps for too long because it was over cooked and dry. I was disappointed and I won’t be back. Yes it was a holiday but it was 5 pm, being busy couldn’t be a good excuse for me because they were not. It wasn’t worth the money we spent.
GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE. FOOD WAS SERVED IN A VERY TIMELY FASHION; DESPITE BEING A VERY BUSY EVENING. OUR SERVER WAS VERY ATTENTIVE AND PATIENT WITH OUR NEEDS AS TWO OF HE GUEST HAD GLUTEN AND NUT ALLERGIES. THE WHOLE EXPERIANCE WAS A HIGHLIGHT OF THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY FOR ME AND I HOPE TO MAKE IT A FAMILY TRADITION.
Awful experience. Steak (ordered medium) came out raw/cold. Waited 20 minutes for waitress to come back to our table. Balance of food was average. Drinks were never refilled or offered. Suggestion: have less people in tuxedos walking around doing nothing and more waitstaff. Also, no handicapp access to dining room ??
My husband and I took advantage of the December only lunch menu. We both had a shellfish melange with crab, shrimp, scallops, and lobsters. I had mine with basmati rice and husband had his with angel hair. Both excellent and chuck full of seafood. If it's on the menu, don't fail to order it.
We love this place and go often. Unfortunately on this occasion one of our friends had to send back his shrimp—squishy texture. Second time, same problem. The waitress was apologetic, handled our complaint with grace and comped us. We still love it there. No one’s perfect.
