Never a bad meal at Mendenhall. A family favorite for decades.
We have eaten here on several other occasions, including a wedding reception. Beautiful dining rooms. Many selections on the menu, including special offers on various days of the week. We had wonderful cocktails, appetizers, delicious entrees, all served with a great flair by a waiter who was wonderful. We will return. It was a Sunday evening and many people were there...make a reservation.
Has been one of my favorite restaurants for 20 years, food and service is always excellent
The server was inattentive. No refills on coffee. Slow to bring requested drinks. Cold clams casino.
We often eat at Mendenhall and especially enjoy having a casual meal in Alexander's Lounge. Last Sunday was the first time we went to Sunday Brunch. It was marvelous. Our server was attentive and kept the champagne glasses and coffee cups filled. There was so much good food on tbe buffet that we ended up taking our entrees home. We will certainly return often.
Excellent Dinner. Andy was a great waiter. He anticipated what we would need before we even asked for it.
We went for brunch, and even though we came at the end of the time frame, the service was superb. The brunch selection was great - omelette station, waffle station, bananas foster station, along with fresh fruit, mushroom soup, smoked salmon and more, outstanding. We will definitely be back again and make sure we have more time to enjoy it.
First time at the champagne brunch. Mimosas were good. Brunch selections appropriate. The buffet may be a little far from the seating area and there are a few stairs to navigate. May turn some people off. Our table of four approved and will be back.
We went to their Sunday Brunch. It was excellent. They had raw oysters, u peel shrimp, lobster salad, and stone claws. All were delicious. They, also, had a salad table with a delicious shrimp and scallop salad. On the lunchmeat table they had mussels, smoked salmon and baked salmon. You can tell we like seafood. They had a waffle and omelet station. You could have bananas foster and flambe coffee. Mini pastries and a chocolate fountain were available too. The only negative I could give is that the ice cream on the bananas foster wasn't great. Everything else was over the top and we would definitely go again. You, also, can get an entree to take home or eat there (no way) for an extra price.
Aside from the french onion soup (which was excellent), the meal was very ho-hum. The crab imperial I had was not nearly as good as it used to be at this restaurant. Not as creamy and less lump crab. I was disappointed.
I thought the food and service was fantastic. My only issue was I booked this reservation on a Friday night expecting to order the Seafood Night special. However I was not aware that it was not available due to the off season. I did not find out until after I tried to order it, then have to figure out something else to eat.
The food is always excellent and this might best restaurant in the area. They have a great variety of options on the menu from either land or sea. The complaint I have is sometimes the wait can be a little excessive. Bananas Foster table side, the best!
Love it as usual. Great food, ambiance and value. Very romantic and great for dressing up.
Very good, as always. The restaurant pleased everyone from age 10 to 55.
Appetizers were great drinks were excellent soup and salad were great we had the main course was the stuffed lobster with crabmat lobster was tasteless and the crabmeat had to much filler in it, both of us didn't really enjoy it. Other wise we will be back but won't get that again great atmosphere.
Special Valentine's day with another couple. Health issues for both couples overcome during 2017.
Visited on New Year's Eve for the first time. Returned on Valentine's Day because we enjoyed the experience so much on New Year's. Excellent food, very pleasant service, and very nice setting. Our dinner was pleasant and unrushed. I would go again. Also found the Open Table app to be very easy to use.
When our waitress (Veronica) was taking our order she wasn't writing it down and I when I commented she said oh maybe I should. Ok that was the down fall. I let go she took my wine glass before I was finished. She brings our entree's and mine was completely wrong. We also ordered salads and she goes I will bring your salad while you wait for your dinner and looks at my husband and goes do you still want your salad. we had already been waiting a long time for our meal and he said no that is okay. He ordered the queen prime rib medium rare and I guess she forgot to right down the medium part but he ate it anyway. I ordered bake potato with my dinner and received mash potatoes after she got it wrong the first time we reminded her again and she still brought me mashed potatoes. My daughter had joined us and she had to leave before my half correct dinner arrived. So we will not be back and we still have a $50 gift card to use. I was expecting a great time and dinner and it was ruined by the very poor service.
We really like the Mendenhall Inn. My wife had the sirloin steak and it was excellent. I had the porterhouse steak which was the special for the evening and for the price, I was disappointed. It was a very large cut, but there was more fat and tendons than I expected. I know a porterhouse has that which gives it its flavor, but this was very difficult to eat. I do have to say the sauce was very good. The rest of the meal was fine.
Mendenhall Inn Restaurant - fine dining at its best, pro servers, superior entrees
In a separate review, we note that we had an average experience at the Inn which is part of this property. The restaurant is an absolute homerun on so many levels. The ambience of the main dining room is perfect with the fireplace, fine linens and seating options. The waitstaff are superb in their knowledge, timely service and willingness to make you have a memorable dining experience. Tuesday is “Fish Night” so I had the cod served in a baking dish and blended with asiago cheese. It was out-of-the-oven hot, tasty and superb. The mashed potatoes suffered from being room temp. The accompanying small Caesar salad was a nice bonus to the entree. My partner had the 8 oz filet mignon. It was tasty, high quality but undercooked at medium rare when she ordered medium. Because it was our anniversary, we were served a complimentary ice cream, fresh fruit, chocolate lava cake dessert to share. If you are in the Longwood Gardens/Chadds Ford, PA area, don’t miss this dining gem!!
Went on a Monday so the place was wonderfully quiet.
Our waitress Lena was fantastic!!!!! She should get a raise.
The Atmosphere is great for romance or a group event.
Best brunch anywhere. After trying many well reviewed brunch places we decided Mendenhall is our favorite. From now on, we are having all of our special brunches here. The best bananas foster, great service, comfy chairs, beautiful dining room, quiet and champagne!
We thoroughly enjoyed this first time visit to Mendenhall Inn. The Sunday Brunch offered a broad selection of delicious quality foods. The service was perfect. Although the cost is pricey $30 plus, it was worth the ride for us after Sunday Church Service. The menu included the usual shrimp, lox and oysters,.The other selections were very attractive and high quality including the custom omelets, bananas foster and even optional special order entrees.
Sunday Brunch here is always a treat. Champagne, lobster salad, shrimp, made to order omelets and wonderful desserts. Wait staff are outstanding and Lori was delightful.
Planned brunch as a way to get together with in-laws, who we missed seeing over the holidays. My husband and I had been to brunch in December and it was so memorable we knew it was the right place. We were seated at a wonderful table, just far enough from other diners to be comfortable. We enjoyed the Sunday brunch - for 3 hours! Our waiter, Noe, was exceptional - took time to chat with us, kept our drinks filled, and our plates cleared. The food on the buffet was marvelous. One of the best seafood spreads in the area for sure. The lobster salad was particularly memorable. I would return just for that! Crab claws, smoked fish, oysters, mussels, shrimp - and that was just the seafood options! The omelet station was spot on as was the chocolate tower. Of course we had to indulge in the banana's foster made to order - spectacular. Cannot recommend highly enough if you want a dining experience in a lovely venue.
We had an extremely pleasant and lovely dinner for my girlfriends birthday dinner. Food and serves was wonderful. Our entire evenings experience was excellent.
The renovations to this amazing restaurant have made it even better and we thought it was perfect before. There is better use of space and more intimacy in the new layout. We had a party of ten and everyone enjoyed what he/she ordered. The salmon was outstanding. Prime rib of each size was praised. Seafood platter was said to be delicious. As always, the snapper soup was excellent. Even though it was hard to find room for dessert, most managed because the desserts were so appealing. Service was very attentive and personalized. We truly enjoyed this special evening and would definitely recommend the Mendenhall Inn and Restaurant.
We had a very enjoyable brunch with friends and our server, Lori, couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. It was a great way to celebrate birthdays ( 2 ) in our party of 6. We were not rushed at all and had a great table by the window which afforded us both privacy and and ambiance.
My sons and I took my In-laws here for Sunday Brunch. It was an outstanding Brunch. The seafood spread was absolutely scrumptious. Oysters on the half shell, steamed shrimp, stone crab claws, and way too many more seafood based choices. And then there was a great salad bar with a very tasty crab bisque. Truly, just too many things to list. Suffice it to say that you will get your money's worth if you enjoy food. They also offer (for an additional $4.00 only) a few entree choices from the menu. But we said no way we could have eaten any more. BUT...if I lived near there (we were visiting), I'd opt to order an entree and just take it home for dinner. THAT is a no-brainer at only $4.00. All in all a very nice time, meal, and day. Highly recommend it! Oh, did I mention that mimosas or champagne were free flowing the entire time? ;-)
Went here for a date night with my wife. It is the off season weeks before Valentine's Day so the place was pretty empty for a Saturday night. Food was delicious and the service was great.
The calamari appetizer was very tasty with a light and crusty coating. Plan on sharing it - the serving size is very generous. Our Caesar salad was also very tasty with a rich creamy dressing. The Surf and Turf entree special of sirloin and lobster tail was fine, but I was disappointed that the lobster was a bit overdone and tough. We enjoyed Bananas Foster prepared table side for dessert - beautiful! Be ready because this dessert does have a strong liquor flavor. Our server Andy was terrific!
My husband had a steak that was just so so. I had crab imperial that was over cooked and dried out.
As usual drinks, menu, food, service and atmosphere are excellent!
We haven’t been here for several years and our past ex
Comfortable and quiet enough that we could enjoy each other in conversation. Stuffed mushroom appetizer delightful, salad very nice. My lobster was lovely, but spouses's filet tasted a bit like liver (which I like but not when I order filet!). Service excellent, including a second server with a bot of free time who answered some questions about the history of the area. Molten fudge cake was a delightful ending. We'll be back.
Seated more promptly than usual for a New Years Eve dinner. Waitress busy, but knowledgeable when asked about specifics of the menu. Food came out hot, fish slightly under seasoned but good, prime rib perfect. Overall, a good dinner on a very busy night.
Pitiful. Where should I start?! Got every single part of our order wrong. App, dinner and desert. Halibut was horribly dry. Sirloin was like a sole of a shoe. Icy parking lot. Just bad. So bad. Have nothing good to say unfortunately. Water was good.
