Memories of India - Gloucester Road
Close to Kensington Palace, Hyde Park, the Royal Albert Hall and the museums, Memories of India attracts many TV personalities, royalty and has been praised by food critics and writers, including Fay Masschler and the late Egon Ronay.
The chef's prepare an indulgent mix of exotic flavours and spices, including a number of staple dishes like the chicken tikka masala, as well as original dishes like Officers' chops in a honey soy sauce, or lemon sole dipped in a blend of spices, mango extract, garlic and red chilli. There are specialities from the tandoori oven, vegetarian and gluten free choices and Gold Taste award winning desserts. With its delightful menu, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, Memories of India is an oasis.
Quaint little restaurant, but very good food. I was vegetarian on the night so could not taste the chicken & lamb dishes. I am sure they would have been pretty tasty. However, generally the food was quite tasty and the portions were solid. Will return.
Te duur voor de kwaliteit eten, wel goed van smaak en aardige mensen.
Vlees van slechte kwaliteit en de sausen te zwaar.
We visited Memories of India for a late night meal after a concert at the nearby Royal Albert Hall. We found it to be a small cosy restaurant with some interesting dishes not found on the average Indian restaurant menu. Tasty food and reasonable value. Service was generally friendly. Our only gripe was the long time it took to attract the attention of a waiter when we wished to place our order, given that it wasn't so busy at the time. Overall, however, I would certainly recommend Memories of India if looking for a nice Indian restaurant in that locality.
This was our second time in a week and were quite disappointed. We have just moved into the neighborhood and were hoping to make coming here a regular thing. But we were so disappointed.
First we realized that ‘regulars’ seem to get a better treatment. The waiter brought the thin Indian crispy cracker served as an appetizer to an Indian meal with sauces, without being asked.
Second we, as we probably look like tourists, were overcharged. And so was a couple next to our table.
Tandoori chicken 9.95
Tikka Marsala 10.50
Darks Daal 5.95
Plain Naan bread 2.75
One small beer
One bottle of water
So basically they made us pay £12 for a small beer and water?!? We will look for another Indian restaurant, which possibly threats all its costumers that same. Not much to ask, I’d say.
We had a wonderful time! We just moved to London and wanted to celebrate. It was a special evening and our waiter was super pleasant. He also suggested veggies to go with our meal. Outstanding experience. Thank you so much!
We chose to dine at this restaurant because we thought it was related to one that we loved in Amsterdam, and indeed it is a branch of the same. The ambience is tasteful, with a fine setting and a tempting menu. We chose the tandoori chicken (it came with a delicious fresh salad), separate dishes of okra and of mixed vegetable curry, and an order of paratha, or something just like it. While we waited, we were served an appetizer of papadum with a tasty set of sauces (a chutney and a mint sauce), a spicy pepper, and fresh, finely chopped vegetables (cucumber, onion, cilantro/coriander). A nice sparkling wine and draft Indian beer were our drinks, but a wide range of choices, including of wines, is available. The whole meal was delicious--as good as any Indian food we've ever had. We wish we were frequent travellers to London, but at least we're going to Amsterdam in the fall and will be able to dine at the sister restaurant.
Consistently decent dishes, good value, cheerful staff and enough of them. Good solid curry house - not trying to be too clever, good quality in all the dishes we tried (on more than one visit). A new regular haunt.
I could eat here every week!! I've never been disappointed. Every item on the menu is delicious and the service friendly and professional!
Outstanding restaurant.. from the service, to the food, to the ambience... everything is first class and well worth a visit!
Consistently high grade Indian food - I’ve never had a poor meal - just get irritated by bewildered and confused American tourists constantly looking at their Mobile phones and trying to work out the “intricacies” of ordering Indian food!!
Great local Indian - good food - good service - great location - v genuine long standing Indian
The food was fine. Service felt rushed. At one point uneaten food was removed without asking if we’d finished.
Es ging alles viel zu schnell. Vom Hinsetzen zum Zahlen in 50min!
Essen schmeckte aber prima
Flavourful dishes served by attentive waitstaff in a restaurant where you can have a conversation and be heard without having to raise your voice. Very good value—less than £30 for two people to leave pleasantly full.
We had a great birthday dinner and excellent food and service!
My birthday celebration!
Sensational neighbourhood Indian restaurant with wonderful food and friendly staff
One of my favourite Indian restaurants in London
It was raining hard outside but a ray of sunshine awaited us as we were ushered to our table. The staff are very friendly and the food sublime! Gobthere!
A very friendly restaurant good service nothing was too much trouble for the staff, happy to arrange food that was not on the menu. Attentive and obliging.
The food was really tasty. We are plant based eaters, we found enough to eat on The menu and they were happy to replace dishes containing animal products with something else more suitable on the menu. service was prompt and they were friendly
The food was very good. We were four people who had four different main-courses. All of us where very satisfied with our choices. The restaurant was very busy, and the waiters were not as present as I would like them to. Not to personal service and they did not askk us if we wanted dessert. ButI would like to go back for the great food!
This was my second time to Memories of India. We asked the waiter to chose the starters and mains and he did just that. My only regret is that I live in NY and cannot visit more often! Great place!!
Wonderful experience - food and service - will be back often.
All good , food , service and price we’ll come back thank you
An excellent and classic restaurant
The food was excellent. The waiters were attentive and the owner/host (?) came to check to see how things were twice. I ate alone, and usually that means being cast to some remote corner. However, that was not the case, I was given a rather nice table. The restroom was very clean - which I think should be a category on these reviews. The only thing that is a little disappointing is the decor, but not too troubling once you taste the first papadon. Bravo.
Cooking the rice needs to be improved !
It would have been an excellent dinner (delicious flavours) had it not been marred at the end by the waiter's insolent remark. As we were telling him we had loved the cuisine but did not think much of the desserts which were merely commercial ice creams, seeing that we had eaten them all the same, he just said : did anyone eat your desserts? Such a way of speaking to guests is unbearable !
Was looking for somewhere close to Royal Albert Hall to dine before the show.
We recieved prompt friendly service, food arrived to the table quickly.
The food was fresh, very tasty and reasonable portions.
It's a small place and the tables are quite close together but we all enjoyed our meal and would return in future.
Great dinner, well prepared with no fuss. Service was friendly and prompt. I would go back anytime. The kitchen is solid and a hardworking team making it all happne.
We were visiting London and basically "found" Memories of India by accident. The food was amazing and the portions were not so overwhelming that you leave half of it behind ! Absolutely the best Indian food that I've had in a long time.
Had read positive reviews but it didn’t live up to the expectations. Overrated and wouldn’t recommend or go again.
We had the menu for 2 along with the Chicken biryani and it was amaaazing . The salt laci as well must try restaurant.
Excellent food. Beautiful fkzvours, great service and good value.
The food was very tasty with a nice touch. The restuarant is quite small and booking is recommended. Personal very helpful and proive a good service.
A great stop when on Gloucester rd for well prepared, authentic Indian cuisine. Management and staff are lovely, attentive and welcoming! Highly recommended.
Good food but expensive. Handwritten bill that couldn’t clearly shown what we paid for
We ate at Memories of India before a prom. We were seated promptly, and orders taken. Some of the non alcoholic drinks on the menu were unavailable.
We ordered bhajis and poppadums while we were waiting- the poppadums came at the same time as our main meals. Cutlery was removed and not replaced - we had to ask for knives and forks.
The food was good - I particularly liked the paneer dish, and the kheema naan was tasty.
It was a good informal meal, but the service was lacking, and the costs were high for this.
