This old time haunt needs an overhaul. Our group of 4 had 50/50 success. Meals came minutes after soup which had been barely started. I had chicken stuffed with lobster. It was the toughest chicken I have ever had. At this price point I would rather go to other more consistent options.

Melvyn's is as "old school" as one can find. For us, this is great! We're eager to return. The nostalgia of a bygone era is enhanced with a delightful menu and a throwback to dining with grace and charm. Especially for the older crowd (and we're among them!), it is an up-to-date reminder of "the gold old days." But, with Melvyn's every day is a good day!

Tacky and yet good. 6 people. One was having birthday which I informed the waiter. Food was good. Not great but enjoyable. Okay here we go, my family is lifelong Chaine members. Argentiers. Melvyn's charged us $2.00 for a very insignificant and poor tasting mascarpone form with a blob of raspberry gel plunked on it. Wasn't worth the $2.00. But, to be charged for a birthday dessert, we ordered desserts on top to boot which was absurd to be charged for a birthday desert. First time ever.

We had some gin and tonics but were charged for Bombay Sapphire which we didn't specify. Our waiter was good. Service was slow but not surprising for Melvyn's. One wants to linger and relax so it was fine.

Over all decent but not great. Much ado. All and all a bit disappointed. Piano bar may as well be Marina Del Rey circa 1972. Call the gendarmes and get ye to the interior decorator. Also I just noticed we were charged for a Sauvignon Blanc we never ordered. Sorry, more. Vicki was jostled a few times by the cart passing through. Won't be back.

We went at the request of my 84 year old mother who described the restaurant as “an old fashioned
cafeteria attached to an old motel” she and my father had been to many years ago. Not quite. Very formal dining with professional servers and an very traditional continental menu. All very good, nothing really exceptional about the food mostly very classic high end fare done extremely well. A very convivial setting and we ended up chatting w other diners and thourougly enjoyed our meals. We then went to the piano bar and were utterly charmed by the pianist and charmed by the crowd which included a couple in their 90s dancing to the standards. Highly recommended!

Our food was Luke warm, but beautiful. The chef prepares a Cobb salad instead of a "wedge" because she doesn't like to serve iceberg lettuce. We ordered the Chateaubriand which was absolutely beautiful and delicious, however the "prepare table side" was weak...The chef also failed on the sauces. One of the best parts of this meal is the béarnaise sauce. Our creamed spinach was hot and delicious however we did not need to order it as there were side with our steak but the waiter did not tell us it came with anything. The soufflé was hot and delicious. Would we go back? Probably not :-(

This is the place that serves up the classic dishes of yesteryear and does them well. Table side preparation of several dishes like Steak Diane, Cherries Jubilee...really good. We were a party of eight and everyone enjoyed their food and the evening. Oh yea, Hollywood stars still come here as well. Jon Hamm, Don Draper of Mad Men, was enjoying his dinner there that night as well.

After a not so great experience a year ago, I was urged to try Melvyn's again and I am glad I did. From outstanding service to great food, the restaurant has been redecorated in the last year and is quite lovely.

As much as I really wanted to love the newly renovated Melyen’s Sadly I wasn’t blown away.
Some of the reasons are: when they remodeled they did keep the old charm but they could use to dim the lighting . We sat in a both where the lights were shinning in my eyes I order Shrimp cocktail only three tasteless shrimp came on the plate for $18. If they was delicious I wouldn’t mention it but they weren’t. Person I was with had a not special house salad. The thing that I found the worse was the Service. Maitre d was charming but the wait staff needs so much help.

The Ingleside Inn / Melvyn's is owned by The PlumpJack Group. They claim that they have "evolved into Northern California’s premier lifestyle and hospitality brand." Ha! I've owned a 2nd home in Palm Springs for 8 years. Never went to Melvyn's until this past NYE for brunch. The reason we decided to bring out-of-town guests together at Melvyn's was because we heard (and read) the property was purchased a little over a year ago and went through a face-lift. It's a bad face-lift with inattentive staff, bare-bones dining ambiance and literally the worse brunch meal I have ever had - in my entire life. Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Blueberry compote - had no lemon, ricotta or blueberries. Flat rubber discs with cooked raspberries on top. Void of color and not even a hint of sweetness. The Melvyn omelets with chicken sausage, mushrooms, cheese, etc. came with no cheese (not one omelet had cheese in it) and PORK sausage. How do I know...because we ordered a side of Chicken sausage and those chicken sausage were twice as plump with a completely different flavor and texture. We also read about their fresh made pastries and orders a plate of 4 at $5 each. J-O-K-E. They were nothing more than frozen puff pastry with poor quality raspberry jam. Drink coaster-sized pucks of over-baked dough that tasted exactly like Kellogg's Pop Tarts. The staff was abundant but service was scarce. Entrees came out on plates so hot you couldn't touch them and looking at the curled up edges of each extra-dry omelet, I didn't need a culinary degree to deduce all of our plates spent too much time under heat lights. If the PlumpJack Group thinks they're a premier lifestyle and hospitality brand - they need to rethink their strategy...cause they aren't even close. Stop trading off glamour days gone by. Close the dump. Fire the chef and staff. Re-invent, renovate and reinvigorate after all it's 2018 (not 1960). Palm Springs is a hot destination - Melvyn's and the Ingleside Inn is a hot mess.

My husband and I had a wonderful evening at Melvyn's. The waiter was most delightful and would ask, "....and what would the lady like?" The atmosphere was upscale, quiet, and sophisticated. I loved how some of the meals were prepared at the tables. The prices were very reasonable. All in all, a very nice evening. This past week we have eaten at 6 of Palm Springs most popular restaurants: Spencers, Le Valleruis, 849 to mention a few.... We found the customer services at Melvyn's to be the best! Thank you for your service and happy new year.

Melvin's iconic restaurant is coasting on its reputation. The menu could stand freshening--even classic, table-side events could be more interesting on the plate. Too many waiters zooming about with little or no actual service.

Our overall experience was soured by being seated over an hour past our 8PM reservation time. The maitre d’ was aloof and dismissive when we asked about our table after waiting 45 minutes, and we still had to wait 20 minutes more. When we were finally seated, we noticed several empty tables, and the dining room was rapidly clearing. The service once we sat down was rushed. We really looked forward to the “old Palms Springs “ experience but left disappointed. The atmosphere is great. The lounge area was lively and festive. But waiting over and hour past the reservation time then being rushed through dinner left us leaving feeling cheated out of a special evening.

Lunch at Melvyn’s was a disappointing experience. Rude, dismissive reception by a curmudgeon and the blandest Caesar salad you’ve ever experienced. Decent crab cakes but nothing memorable. Won’t be returning.

This place is sadly past its prime, and hanging on by its prior graces. The menu looks wonderful, and has lots of standard steak place options, when we asked our waiter if he had any suggestions or favorites he said, I don’t know what you like, I like Chinese food... for a place of this level and price that a waiter can’t guide you through a meal or offer suggestions is ridiculous. When the food did come it was either over cooked and cold or under cooked and cold. We were with friends celebrating my birthday and opted to not ruin the evening by complaining (and honestly I’m not sure any one would have cared if we did complain) The location is neat, the history of the place is obviously keeping it open, but the food and help is terrible. We had better service from a fast food taco place.

The meal was absolutely delicious, everything was prepared perfectly. Tableside food preparation of the spinach salad and steaks made the evening even more special. The service was wonderful and they were happy to accommodate our special requests. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special occasion dining experience.

I have been going to Melvyn's for years, but this was my first visit since the remolding. The dining room and patio look sophisticated and comfortable. The menu still has many of the old favorites, but with a twist. I feel the food is much better than before. I will be returning over and over again.

Went for Christmas for the 4th year. However this was the first since new ownership. Got there to find out (along with everyone else dining) they didn't start the Christmas menu until 2pm. Was told that 2pm was clearly stated online. I had to show them it wasn't. Had no choice but order off the regular menu. They were only serving limited items from the menu because of the holiday. Another let down. The Cobb salad was brown, burger and eggs benedict were cooked wrong and had to be sent back. Came back inedible. Then on the way out I gave the valet guy a $10 bill for the $5.00 charge and had to ask for my change. His response was "Oh, do you want change?"

To be fair, I will mention that the ambience is extremely charming, and we were excited to dine at Melvyn’s based on the old Hollywood feel. But that was by far the best part of our dinner. Our waiter seemed disinterested in us, and my husband and I both ordered our steaks prepared medium. When they arrive, mine was rare to medium rare, and his was well done. His cut was nicely marbled, but mine was all gristle and had very little meat that was not fat. The baby potatoes were dry and over cooked. We’re dessert people, but we felt that our meal was so poorly done that we didn’t want to risk dessert.

We have been going to Melvyn's for more than 25 years. The new owners and the re model
are outstanding. Great to see all the regular waiters and of course our Mater de. Dining is
perfect, attentive but not overbearing. Fun and friendly. The only negative was the bar service.
We always go to hear the piano man and have some after dinner drinks. We were totally
ignored for over 20 min. by the two hostesses. I finally walked to the bar area and asked her
if we were just being ignored or if she could come and help us. She sent the other hostess.
Everything was fine after that and the one hostess apologized as we left. Almost upset our
evening as the hostess was a little short, saying they were busy and can't get everywhere. We
of course will not hold that against Melvyn's, we will return.

The food was poor. Our reservation was for "standard" seating not "outdoor" but we were given outdoor and told there was no notation. Is this an Open Table issue? Not sure. But there is no tableside dining outdoors. Our food was horrible. Service was strange. A lot of servers but the service wasn't good and our waiter was concerned that he would get in trouble if he didn't take our order promptly. The bar was great. Don't bother with dinner.

For years i ate Melvyn's Cobb Salad, the best in the Coachella Valley. There is a new chef who has "upgraded" the Cobb from iceberg to romaine. Except in the process, the tiny chopped salad that gave a burst of all the components flavors has disappeared. It's now big pieces of Romaine and, despite the waiters comments, I believe a new salad dressing. Had it twice; I'll never order it again. The new chef has destroyed an iconic and famous dish in the name or "improvement". Please bring back the former, chopped, chopped salad. another guest had the patty melt - Blah . I love Melvyn's; have been going for years. But I don't like where it is going.

Always a wonderful pick, great service, from everyone. Very good food with lots to choose from. This is an old time restaurant with everything that went with it cozy, impecable service with waiters in tuxes . This is not a trending restaurant. We hope they never make it into the new cold sterile restaurants. They have valet parking and they need it very small area to park.

What a transformation! This iconic Palm Springs restaurant is located in the historic Ingleside Inn once a favorite of old-glamour Hollywood celebs including Spencer Tracy, Howard Hughes, and Norman Vincent Peale. However, in the past ten years or so, the restaurant had really become somewhat tired and run down until the PlumpJack Group acquired the property in 2016 and undertook a major restoration of the entire facility. What’s so fantastic about the renovated Melvyn’s is that they kept the 1940’s supper club feel with dark brown walls and romantic fixtures and even kept dishes on the menu that have virtually disappeared from modern view, including Steak Diane and Veal Oscar. They also kept the seasoned wait staff, many of whom have been with the property for decades and understand the art of classic dinner service. This visit, we were lucky enough to have Robert as our server who epitomizes excellent dining care; attentive, engaging, warm, and efficient. But on to dinner, we started with the Lobster Cocktail and Wedge Salad. The Lobster was served with a mango and citrus salad, remoulade, and cocktail sauce. A generous portion that was absolutely bright, fresh, and delicious. The Wedge Salad was classically dressed with chopped hard-boiled eggs, almonds, crispy bacon, and a creamy blue cheese dressing, but served atop baby gem lettuce as opposed to the traditional iceberg greens. This may be one of the best Wedge Salads we’ve ever had. For entrees, we chose the Seared Scallops and the Sole Piccata. Four magnificent scallops were accompanied by a roasted red pepper puree with wild rice, green beans, and baby carrots on the side. Spectacular dish. The sole was lightly sautéed in a delicate white wine, lemon, caper sauce that was simple but perfectly prepared. Not a easy feat. By dessert time, we were quite sated. Perhaps next time. Melvyn’s is an old yet new must-visit dining experience for locals and visitors alike. Can’t wait to go back.

My wife & I hadn’t been here in over 20 years, we were happy to return. We chose to because of the new owners, having eaten at one of their other restaurants, where everything was first rate. Here that practice was carried on, great food, personalized service, all while having prices that were more than competitive.
We have recommended this restaurant to our friends and we’ll definitely return.

They would not seat us due to some glitch. Two guys in tuxedos simply told us we had no reservation and seemed uncaring as if we were not worthy of their time. My Open Table email confirmed my 8:15 pm reservation but the app itself had changed to 7:15 pm. The tux guys had no interest in helping. I know I had selected 8:15 pm so my wife could finish her nap. The best part was being charged $5 for valet parking.
