Mele Bistro (formerly Village Bistro) Ratings and Reviews
This local gem has the best Italian and seafood menu in the area. The reasonably priced menu makes this restaurant a good value. Servers are quite knowledgeable and accommodating. Also, there is a fair amount of free parking.
Mele Bistro must be checked out and not overlooked.
The olive oil and bread were oustanding at Mele Bistro, but my ravioli dish was barely warm, and a bit undercooked. The tomatoes in the caprese salad were hard, unripe and tasteless; however, the cheese was delicious. It seems this place is still getting its new identity together and may improve down the road. We will try, again, sometime.
Food ok- but the terrible service negated any joy from the food.
The owner rounded every table extolling the food and how it is sourced. All this info was written on the menu- so we already knew it. Why? Because we had soooo much time to read while we waited for service. The owner should have paid more attention to his servers, who were just terrible, and slow.
The table next to us had to spend 15-20 minutes trying to get their check right at the end of the evening. We hoped to not have that issue, but alas- out check was totally messed up- so we ended a very unsatisfactory meal with yet another disappointment.
Next time- we’ll go to Ben’s Chili Bowl which is next door.
Mele Bistro is a pleasant comfortable restaurant and the friendly owner makes it a point to visit every table. Although the menu presents mostly Italian dishes, the best dishes are the seafood offerings. The pasta is nothing to rave about and the sauces are quite bland. I had a dish that was labeled as "spicy" but was far from it.
Previous experiences were great, so we came back for our anniversary. Service has declined, probably because there was one server for the entire place (the other two started helping a bit, but not with much communication). Food wasn't as ordered, waiter offered to bring more bread but that never happened, and wine glasses stayed empty for quite some time. Finally approached our waiter (at the register) to ask if we could order more wine and he simply brought us what we had the first round. Never asked if we wanted something different! Sad. I hope they finish renovations soon and get back to what they used to be...a great local restaurant that you were comfortable taking friends to...with no surprises! We want them to stay in our neighborhood!!
Arrived for reservation and seating promptly. It was the night before the Marine Corps marathon and they were serving a few groups so perhaps unfair to judge, but wait staff seemed harried and rushed. The menu was terrific and food was delicious. I'd go back.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Their advertised emphasis on fresh ingredients was true, and you can taste it in their food. Room for improvement on quality control, such as the first basket of bread we were served was too crusty, almost stale (like it had been left over from lunch), while the second basket was warm from the oven and absolutely heavenly. Entrees were awesome, although they either over-spiced the lobster ravioli, or need to forewarn guests that it is prepared very spicy. But they graciously replaced that entree for us, no questions asked. We will definitely go back.
Food was great especially the appetizers and preappitizers most notably the olives and zucchini. The bread and the condiments that came with it (including the olive oil) were the best I have had since living in Rome. I had the lamb and spinach ravioli and it was exceptional, as was the pasta others had in my party. I was a little disappointed in the dessert choices and chose to go elsewhere for dessert. The draft beer choices and prices were good as was the wine list. Service was excellent except at times - when it got really crowded - I felt ignored.
Excellent foods, mussels were sweet and flavorful, shrimp scampi was delicious, sea bass exquisite, and calves liver was cooked perfectly. Bread was crispy and piping hot! Service, as always, courteous, attentive and professional! Service staff anticipated customers' needs and was extremely accommodating! Best place to dine amongst friends! Decor was cozy and warm! Owner greeted guests as though they are close friends! Very uplifting! Thank you for the best Italian foods ever! We had a superb n enjoyable dining experience!
Staff: vry friendly, low key, helpful, seem to genuinely have an interest in what they do / what you eat. Owner comes by, several times, to see how you're doing. Nice touch that you just don't receive in Arlington.
Service: awesome seating at high top in front (outdoors) patio area on a sublime early autumn evening; plenty of seats avail inside, as well; parking is catch-as-catch-can in small lot immediately in front of restaurant or on nearby streets (unless you have rock star parking karma, allocate 15 mins to locate a spot during prime dining hrs, just sayin); you may have to ask for items like bread or drinks x2 but eventually the good come, this is a local place with professional but sometimes missing service. It's all good, though, part of this place's charm. Seriously. If you get bent out of shape because of small aspects when dining out, then pls, for all of our sakes, stay with The Cheesecake Factory.
Food: basket of bread is darn good; grilled organic salmon is excellent & recommended; sea bass was bland; bistro calamari is vry good & not the usual fired item which tastes like only waht you dip it in; garlic mussels are pungent, good, and you both better eat them if you're on date night (first rule of dating: you eat garlic, I eat garlic).
The wines looked good, as did the full bar. We skipped the alcohol this meal, went with club soda & waters.
Price: $88.50 with tax, tip additional. It's Arlington, so it's expensive. Recommended if you want good food, good local atmosphere from hard-working locals & a good night out of dining. Noise level: low when outside.
Extensive menu of Italian and seafood. Perhaps a bit too ambitious for the quality achieved and the predominantly neighborhood/casual crowd. Salad was fresh, lightly dressed and tasty. Pesto dish suffered from lack of pine nuts and flavor. Pasta was appropriate "al dente". Pasta "alfredo" dish was good...but not great. Good selection of wines, a bit pricey for the labels. Comfortable ambiance that would be even better with the background music at lower volume...or off. Service suffers somewhat from what appears to lack of specific table assignments. Co-owner works hard, pitches in and circulates to check with each table. All in all a good place worthy of a few repeat visits to select dishes you like the best.
The only reason I gave 3 stars for service was because it took a really long time to get our bill (and we are extremely patient people). Seems our waiter thought the other waiter brought it to us. But, that aside, our evening was delightful. Grilled calamari and warm olives to start. Lovely bread to dip in the sauce. Then we shared the rockfish plate. Just delicious and fresh! This bistro is so sweet and wait staff friendly and knowledgeable. We will come back again no doubt.
This is the second time I've been to Mele for lunch. The food is fabulous and so fresh! Everything we ordered was delicious. Highly recommend this place, can be a little pricy on some dishes that are flown in fresh. Can't say anything negative about food or service.
