Mele Bistro (formerly Village Bistro)
Really enjoyed my meal at Mele. First time going for an impromptu date night. Service was a bit slow but they were very busy. Beverages were tasty, particularly #1 off the Cocktail list. The owner/manager is a vibrant man who made us feel very welcome. I got a sense that he honestly cares about his diners’ experience.
If I had one complaint, and this is being fairly picky, I’d say the Lamb Ravioli dish could have been a bit larger for the price. That said, I left completely satiated.
All-in-all, we will be back for sure, as we look forwards to trying a few of the other dishes!
Frank and his team do an amazing job. As Rosslyn residents, Mele has become our local “go to” place for dinner with friends, a quiet dinner date or a family gathering. Great, fresh food, well prepared at an honest price - what more can you ask for? We will keep coming back but as the word gets out about this place it may be harder and harder to make a spur of the moment reservation.
The service was excellent, food was delicious as usual, the ambiance pleasant and we will return.
Excellent seafood! Everything on the extensive Mediterranean menu is very good. And the staff are really great people. It is a pleasure to dine there.
The food is always good. I like their salad, grilled whole fish and the bread a lot. I never tried their dessert. So, not sure. I think this is a great value restaurant. The owner is always smiling and friendly. The only complain I have is their waiters never smiles, and services slow at time. But, with prices that inexpensive. This is a great value place!
Waited forever for service. Spaghetti watery. Napkin smelled like it wasn’t cleaned. Such a waste of our money
Excellent every time!
Fantastic food. Some of the best ravioli I have ever had. The owner was great, and very personable.
Tremendous neighborhood restaurant. Always first rate experience. Fish always fresh. Service superb.
Excellent grilled bluefish served in a comfortable dining room at a surprisingly reasonable price.
We continue to hope this restaurant will improve. The food certainly has, but the service is very slow.
We enjoyed an absolutely wonderful meal and can't wait to go back... there were so many great options on the menu (including for dietary restricted folks)!!!
I had a high expectation before going there as I saw a lot of good reviews online. However, food is just ok. I wanted to try their ravioli that day but they didn't have it.
Very nice meal and excellent service.
Went there Monday and they were busy but not enough help so the service suffered.
We have been to Mele Bistro somewhere between 30 and 50 times in the last three years. The food has always been excellent. If you are looking for fish, we have not found anywhere in the entire DC area that can compete with Mele. They typically have a selection of 5 or 6 fresh fish choices every day. We have tried many other places, most significantly more expensive, for variety or for a better view than a shopping center parking lot, but the quality of the food, the breadth of the menu and the wonderful personality of the owner makes you forget those things. In the end, our experience with so many other overrated and disappointing restaurants in the DC Metro area brings us back to Mele Bistro.
A really excellent meal, as are all the meals I've had there!!
I was BLOWN AWAY. Never have I ever tasted red snapper so fresh, so perfectly cooked, so flavorful. Overnight fish from Hawaii? Yes, please!! My husband and I are both Italian, and we’ve been to Italy, and Mele Bistro’s food was SPOT ON. The portions were the perfect amount and the atmosphere was just what we needed. Our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable and put it simply: no TVs, no wifi, and nothing that isn’t fresh or from a farm. My only regret is that we didn’t find this place sooner!
The food was very good, but the service is best described as “not attentive”. Whenever anyone is asked to provide service, they do, but as customers, it never seems as though any server is dedicated to providing you service.
Excellent restaurant- food is great! We love going there and it’s very consistent in every measurement.
Very wonderful evening with great food!
Love this place
Great food as always. Superb service.
Great as always
So many great choices and and great quality. Definitely someplace that we’ll go back to many times.
My friends invited me to Mele Bistro on Tuesday night. The restaurant was full, the patio and the dining room. There was a line of people to get into the restaurant. We had a Hawaiian Hapuku Sea bass, Smoked scallops ravioli, lamb burger, lamb sirloin, and Dover sole. The lamb is farm to table and the Hawaiian sea bass was overnight fish from Hawaii. We were all surprised that with about 120 people, the food was amazing. Endive salad and spicy mussels were superb. The selection of teas surprised all of us. The wine list offers good selection of wine.
I decided to go back for lunch following day. They had several big parties and they welcomed me like a family. I had Mero Sea bass, another fantastic dish. I definitely will go back when I am in town.
I grew up in a Sicilian restaurant kitchen, so Italian food is usually not my go to for eating out. However, Mele was recommended to me by a friend who lived in Italy for several years. He claimed the food was legitimately as good if not better, so I had to see for myself.
In short, I was blown away. It’s extremely deceptive for its size and location. The ambiance and mood was trendy and lively but sincerely Italian. The service as incredible, we were shown filets from fish that came from Hawaii and New Zealand before we ordered, and explained that those cuts were next-day-air shipped to the restaurant. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer, I had the cast iron sea bass, and finished with blood orange gelato.
The calamari was good, but not excellent. It was breaded a little too heavily for my personal taste, but was certainly fresh.
The sea bass however, was the entire reason I’m taking the time to write this review. It was nothing short of the best filet of fish I’ve had in my life. It was perfectly cooked, fork tender, and just a tad crispy on the outside. I highly recommend it, and will be returning.
Lastly, the gelato. We were given two options of coconut and blood orange. I selected the blood orange and was again blown away. It was served in two small scoops on a frosted dish, and was incredibly fresh and light.
I sincerely recommend Mele to anyone critical of Italian cuisine, it may very well change your mind for the better.
this is a great place for a good, solid, delicious meal. Nothing out of the ordinary, but some days you just need a great meal at a good price, so this is the place
We have been at Mele a few times and even if you gave to wait a long time in the end it is worth for the high quality of food; we always try to order fish, incredibly fresh, well cooked not too spicy or saucy and nicely presented. Also the meat was amazingly delicious.
Consider it a very slow food place for very relaxing moments.
I would like the place less dark and more simply decorated.
The staff warmly greeted us and sat us but then forgot to get us menus. So, we had to get up and ask for them after waiting about ten minutes. We were finally able to order drinks after about 20 minutes. This was the story of the evening. Good food but slow and frustrating service, seemingly because they are understaffed. We probably won’t be back.
Very friendly service and absolutely appreciated the 'values based' philosophy of this restaurant, esp no food sources from China.
Awesome meals and great service as always. Cant wait to go again.
Great spot. I enjoyed the meal and the service.
Lunch meeting. All went well at the restaurant. The owner is very accommodating, & makes the experience worthwhile.
Our group of 7 was celebrating a birthday. We had a relaxed Sunday afternoon meal that made us feel as if we were in Europe - no rush and no drama. We enjoyed bottles of wine and meals of scallops, trout, chicken parmigiana, sea bass, seafood pasta, and rockfish. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Coffee with tiramisu and dolce de leche cheese cake with a candle made the treat fun. Thank you Mele Bistro!
We have been to Mele Bistro a few times, the food is exceptional. All fresh. Service is generally very good but sometimes it can be slow. The owner, is delightful and engaging, always on the floor helping his staff. This is a great neighborhood restaurant.
Excellent food and service. A neighborhood gem, will go back
Food was great. After we ordered salad, drinks, and a small plate, we had trouble getting a waiters attention to put in our entree. That is the only reason I gave them a 4 for service. Other than that, the owner is great, the food is great, and the restaurant has a cozy vibe.
We go here as often as possible. A neighborhood gem. Carlos and Pablo ensure our total satisfaction every visit - even for special diets. Very accommodating and sincerely interested in our experience. I love the trout but we’ve also had the pasta and chicken fajitas. Very good. Didn’t care for the veal chop (fatty) but might just had caught a bad one. They volunteered to take it off the bill. Reds by the glass are delish and the portions are generous.
