Mele Bistro (formerly Village Bistro)
Great food. Tremendous host/owner welcoming and catering to your every need. Our favorite place to bring friends when visiting us in Arlington.
Our meal was fabulous. We had the Lamb, Swordfish, Ahi Tuna and Scallops and everything was perfect. The salads were kinda boring, but the entrées were terrific. Ambiance was casual. Very good tiramisu too. Highly recommend.
Always gracious, warm, and welcoming - AND delicious, fresh, healthy food. Dies not get better than this.
We have been going to Mele (formerly Village Bistro) frequently for 20 years and have never had a bad meal! Our favorite!
Great Neighborhood restaurant with great selection of fresh fish.
Mele Bistro has amazing food. This is why you go there. Atmosphere in general is very friendly, however there are some problems. It is a popular place, unfortunately manager is not able to manage the room in a good time manner. Despite of having reservation we waited over 20 minutes to be sited. We were not offered a drink, and people who came after us sat down beforehand. Once we sat down we had to wait for the waiter very long. Overall we were happy that we went there, but we decided to come or very early or late in order to have almost empty space to get better service.
We had read wonderful things about the restaurant and one of our guests had colleagues who had been there several times. Overall we were very pleased, and our expectations met. A couple of items to note; if the restaurant is very busy, do not expect to get in and out quickly. We went on a Sat. night, they had just finished with two very big tables, and we did have reservations. We had to wait a bit to be seated; and then we had to work hard to get a waiter to come to the table. We understood, but if you are annoyed by this type of event then be apprised. They are a little slower on service. Due to how busy they were, a few parts of the service fell short. I ordered one type of fish; I was quite clear on the order. But I received another type. It was delicious so I did not complain. My friend asked to order a glass of wine (after having a cocktail), but the wait staff either did not hear or remember to bring it. We could not tell. However, over all it was a tasty meal, we enjoyed what we had, and it was a fun and delicious night.
Service was terrible. Not enough servers. Had to ask for menus, drinks, food, & check. Owner however is friendly & very welcoming. One male server who also works the bar is slow, & seems confused. Food is excellent.
Pris Fixe small menu with hyper local freshness. Few tables contributes to cozy feeling, the chef is right there. Excellent dishes with lovely unexpected interludes. No pressure timing. This is will become a local favorite. Cambridge is more expensive than Somerville. No problem parking, meters expire at 6pm.
The quality of food is very good for the price one pays. There are a lot of nice fish dishes and, generally, healthier meal choices with a strong accent on good vegetables. Staff is friendly and eager to please.
We love this restaurant. The food is always fresh and good. The bread is excellent! (and free).
Their service (the waiters) can use tiny improvement -- I don't mean the service is bad, but the one or two waiters we usually have when we go there ALWAYS ask if this is our first time there. It seems they should try to remember their frequent customers and make them feel slightly special (except the owner -- well, I think he is the owner - always smiling and greeting us super friendly). I was tiny upset that last time when we dined there, the waiter gave us the check as soon as we were done with our entree and did not even ask us if we wanted desserts. Everyone of us actually did want desserts and each ordered one (not sharing). It felt like they wanted us to get out of there asap... Not a good way to end the meal - but the desserts are all great (I think the Cholocate one is the best, lemon is good too)
Excellent food delivered by friendly waiter who was very knowledgable about to menu. The owner took personal care to be sure that we were attended to. We are looking forward to our next visit.
I have lived in Arlington for 10 years and never knew about this place; it's so tucked away in the strip mall. Everything was exceptional and I will go back!
Friday nights get busy and a bit noisy, but so much that you can't hear your dining companion. The portabello mushroom appetizer was great. I do think that IF they can make pasta softer than al dente they should offer that. My butternut squash was tasty, but more al dente than I like. The espresso was great -- many times espresso is just a more bitter version of coffee, but theirs actually had flavor. Also the dessert chocolate pie was quite good.
Once again, the food and service were spectacular. The server thoroughly explained where the food was imported from and how it was prepared. Beautiful ambiance as well. We will be back!
Everything was perfect from the bread to the amazing scallops, mushroom risotto, filet mignon and dessert!
Our meal was excellent. Service was a little slow but for us we enjoyed because we were a family get together and not in a rush. I had the Japanese fish dish. It was excellent.
Date Night with babe....It was Awesome...Will be back for Sure!!!
Wonderful staff, very accommodating with special requests. Food is always good and consistent. The best little neighborhood restaurant. The owner is quite a character, a marvelous host.
Loved the host and the waiter. The food was phenomenal and they made me look amazing for my date (bringing flowers saying they’re from me). Had the absolute best time. Cannot wait to go back
Valentine's Dinner. Super busy, but still, very slow and inattentive service. 35mins for drinks and another 25mins before the first appetizer.
I went on Valentine’s Day with my girlfriend. I thought the food was fantastic, but they seemed a bit short staffed that night and we felt like we were forgotten a couple of times.
They are Understaffed and not able to handle large crowds. Really bad service. Food was alright. Loud music.
Not going back.
Just another outstanding evening at Mele. A wonderful host and great food. Could not ask for more in Arlington.
Food is delicious. Service was not good. Waiters were disorganized and running around, clearly stressed out.
My wife and I visited this restaurant for the first time on Valentines Day. We both had an excellent meal and enjoyed the evening. The only blip was somewhat spotty service, which might have been due to how busy the restaurant was (which was predictable and thus should have been dealt with), or perhaps for some other reason. The service was friendly and professional, but there were times when service was delayed, mostly in taking an order (we did not order everything at the same time). But, overall we really enjoyed our visit and had a very nice dinner. I expect we'll be back.
Consistently great food!
Mele Bistro is my go-to place in DC... I take people there all the time. Frank and the staff are awesome
Excellent flavorful food and friendly service. Lots of unique pasta options and very fresh ingredients. Limited vegetarian options, but enough to find an couple of options that all sounded delicious. It was crowded, so a bit hard to track down the waiter when we wanted refills on water and the kitchen missed a request regarding a food allergy, but the issue was immediately corrected and handled very well by staff. We'll definitely go again.
The food was outstanding, fresh, and beautiful on the plate. The owner is so personal and makes you feel welcome. This is one of my local favorites.
While the owner was very friendly and knowledgeable and the pasta made onsite, both the pasta and the fish were over-cooked. May have caught them on an off night as the fish recommended was actually unavailable.
Employees are friendly. A little dark inside. Of course, It's an Italian, obviously!! We enjoy there. Relax, mellow, and enjoy it.
While this was an anniversary of our meeting, we come here for everyday occasions as well. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and “special”. Frank welcomes us each time with a big smile and a great story. Carlos and others wait on us with warmth and efficiency. And the food is outstanding, especially the seafood. Always fresh, not overwhelmed with sauces and a choice of small or large plate with great vegetable or starch accompaniments, included in the price. Can’t say enough good things about Merle.
When we arrived at Mele, the place was already packed. I told a manager that we have a reservation for 6 people, but he seemed surprised and it was obvious that there was no table for us. He never came back to us, and we just left the restaurant.
I may go there again because I like the restaurant, but they need a little work for a booking system.
I'm so glad we chose Mele for our business lunch! I will definitely return. The 4th Century chicken soup was to die for, almost overshadowing the equally luscious grilled halibut. See you again soon!
Owner Frank and his team are always welcoming and customer-friendly. Best bread in town; outstanding warm olive appetizer; excellent soups; and one of the very best selections of seafood -- prepared in a variety of ways -- this side of the Atlantic coast. All at a reasonable price in a very attractive, creatively-designed setting.
We always enjoy dining here and would recommend it. The food is top notch, service is attentive and the owner always stops by and remembers you even if it’s been a while since you’ve been in.
What a great menu! I was surprised to see an Italian restaurant flying in fresh fish from all over the world - especially Hawaii! outstanding meal...good wine list.
Great Ambiance! Delicious food!!
When I get back to DC I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!
Mele is homemade, fresh delicious food. It is a gem f a restaurant. The bread is amazing!!! The owner ensures to say hello to each person who enters his establishment.
