The food was delicious and creative. When we asked, they moved us to a quieter table.
Reserved a table for 4. We're knowledgeable diners who enjoy fine dining, good wine selections and good service. Our reservation was for the night Michigan played in the Final Four, so we were apprehensive about crowd size, service level and noise level. A superb experience in every way! We share every dish. The crab cakes and calimari starters were great and the cocktails were delicious and balanced. The sea bass, steak, mushroom pasta and scallop entries were spot on and well presented. Service (thanks, Racheal!) was knowledgeable, friendly and prompt. Most patrons were in the bar for the game so ambient noise in the house was minimal. Ambience 95fprpL1C1Hf was very good. Overall a very pleasurable experience. We'll be back!

New menus just isn’t good
Read the reviews that weren’t great and took a chance anyway - glad we did! Great restaurant to share food and it was delicious. Great cocktail menu too!
Our dinner for two left us disagreeing over how we felt about this restaurant. Atmosphere was nice but being in the basement felt a little odd. When the waitress brought the wine we ordered from the wine list she informed us that it had been misprinted and so presented us with another option. This was well handled but why the misprint ? My sea bass was absolutely to die for but the steak left one wanting for more. The service however was very good.
They didn’t seem to know how to cook a steak medium. I ordered my steak medium and the disconnect between the server and the kitchen is unfortunate. I ordered medium. The steak came out medium well.
Seems simple, but if you’re going to charge me $35 for a steak I expect it to done right. The staff tried to address the issue, however, when my meal arrived cooked correctly, my date had finished her food and had to watch me eat. It’s the simple things, but they matter. Just get it right.
When we learned that Eve, of eve the restaurant, was collaborating with Melange to create a fresh new menu, we had to try it. I have some peculiar food allergies that Eve has always been able to accomodate, so I had hope that Melange could do the same. They did, and they did it well. My Greens and Fresh Herb Salad was a nice mix of fresh, tender greens drizzled with olive oil and fresh citrus. The citrus enhanced the greens nicely, while the herbed crouton with French Cheese added a burst of intense flavor soothed by the creaminess of the cheese.
My main course of Winter Mushroom Spaccatelli with Walnut-Basil Pesto, Mushroom Fricassee had robust flavor and went very will with the almost paper thin sliced Grilled Ribeye. The Ribeye was cooked to perfection -seared crisply on the outside and rare on the inside.
The Citrus Pie was a refreshing finish to my meal. It was neither too sweet, nor too tart, but just right in it's nutty crust and topped with Chantilly Cream.
The round booth where we were seated gave us a good sense of privacy. The staff was very attentive and made sure that we had everything we needed.
I would definitely recommend Melange to my friends.
Since Eve began consulting in the kitchen, Melange has developed a much more artistic and well executed menu than from a year ago. Ginger-Lime Martini is as excellent as I remember from Eve's last restaurant. Sushi plate very tasty and original. Fish dishes and steak with 40 garlic cloves all excellent. Highly recommend, especially to those who, like us, may have become jaded over the past year or two.

The meal was amazing. Eve and her team has done a wonderful job bringing their style and cuisine to this venue. The ginger lime martinis are perfect and the food was delicious.
The new menu (Eve) is a significant improvement. I had been several times, but was not overly impressed with the menu. I came back to see how Eve changed things, and now, I will be back much more often.

Fantastic service and really enjoyed the menu updates. If you haven't tried Melange in a few mos it's worth another try with the new menu updates from the Chef at Eve. Ambiance is good, but I feel it lacks something really special. It's now a bit updated but feels more. I used to enjoy how dark and romantic it was and now it seems the lights are on a bit too bright. Overall enjoyed it though.
We were drawn in by the redesigned menu, but the food did not live up to the descriptions.
The simple fish, described as seared with lime and green chilies, was delivered, significantly overcooked and coated in chili powder.
The vegetables had the opposite problem. I was reminded, as I bit into an undercooked brussels sprout, that I am overdue for a dental appointment.
The server was friendly and helpful when she arrived, but we had to wait for a surprisingly long time for our first point of contact. Our water had already been filled up to or three times before we saw her.
Too bad. I really wanted this to be part of our regular A2 dining experience.
The new menu by Eve is excellent! I had many good choices to pick from, and all the dishes were tasty and satisfying. I loved the Duck Confit Nachos!

We were disappointed by the over seasoned carrot soup. The color was an unappealing brown and it did not taste at all like fresh carrots, it tasted more like mole sauce. The duck confit nachos were stop sweet and not have any heat to them. The Spanish eggs were all one texture- smooth and soft. It needed some crunch or different texture. Again the spices were strange. The best dish was the mushroom spaccetelli. This seems like an amateur chef trying to mix unusual tastes and failing. Sorry. The tres leches was also good. The place has a nice ambiance and was quiet enough to talk, probably because there were only 6-8 other diners. Bring back the old menu, or something more like Pacific Rim. This menu is not very fulfilling from a gourmand’s perspective.
Lovely experience. Excellent food. The best Sushi in Ann Arbor, candle light dining and quiet enough to hear for a good conversation.
Our only concern was that one appetizer and two entrees were not served warm enough. It was Restaurant Week, so we let it go considering how busy everyone was. The food was excellent overall except for that. Eve's touch is clearly in evidence.
Went with my wife during restaurant week. Wonderful food and experience. The wait staff was very polite and considerate.

The food was excellent, interesting, spicy, not fatty or greasy, very tasty and innovative. Turns out that Eve Aronoff has influence over the menu and I love her cuisine. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.
Went for Restaurant Week. We have been to many area restaurants over the years for Restaurant Week and this was the BEST meal we have had during this occasion. Sea bass was excellent as was the carrot purée. Well worth the money. Will definitely be returning soon.

The food for the restaurant week is terrible, and the portion of each dish is so small. My friends and I left the restaurant hungry. I won't visit this restaurant again.
We had our first dinner at Melange as part of Ann Arbor Restaurant week. We had the "legendary" duck confit nachos, and they totally lived up to their reputation! What a terrific way to start the dinner. We also appreciated the amuse bouche of naan, and the avocado naan on the prix fixe menu were also a hit. We had the sea bass (great, but spicy), the ratatouile (with goat cheese, remarkably good!). The service was extraordinary-- the whole team kept our table cleared, provided water regularly (something higher end restaurants forget). The music playlist was a surprise-- wonderful mix of current and past music, pop and jazz, while not being too intrusive. The decor is really great, which is a challenge in a basement restaurant. We will be back!

Eve's touch on the menu is a welcome addition to what was once a tired, ho-hum menu. The naan at the beginning was divine. Way better than the avocado naan that came as an appetizer, which was good, but lacked a little something. The sea bass was outstanding, and others seemed to like their scallops. I've been missing Eve's Simple Fish, which is a chili pepper and lime encrusted fish. Though I don't think salmon is the best for this (I'd rather see halibut or similar), it was also outstanding. The chocolate cake with chilies in it was fantastic.
The drink menu leans heavily on gin and vodka, and all were good, but lacked a certain alcoholic kick or bitterness I would prefer in a cocktail. They were a bit too sweet.
Ambience is a lovely candle lit glow. Service was fine, but mostly neutral.
All in all, we were very pleased with the food and ambiance, and we'll be going back again very soon.

Celebrated a birthday here. The cozy booths are great for conversation. Very good food and wine/cocktails, and excellent service.
We had appetizers and drinks (in lounge, happy hour special) and then had dinner. The house special wines selections were excellent and the food was tasty. The kitchen and bar was heavy handed. All of the dishes were spicy (e.g., chili oil on a Caesar salad) or salty. Likewise, the cocktail my wife order was extremely strong. I recommend going to Melange for appetizers and drinks before a show or before dinner somewhere else.

Our food was very good but the service did not match the quality of the menu or food. We chose Melange for dinner after reading a story about their new menu that was a collaboration with Eve Aranoff. Her restaurants have been favorites of ours and we miss having them as part of A2's choices. The menu showed her influence and we enjoyed all the items we ordered--sushi fantasy, arroz con pollo, seabass, and the mushroom vegetarian option. Desserts were lovely. Our server was not knowledgeable about the menu or the dishes. For many questions--even the most basic, he had to leave to find an answer from someone else. He was an unsteady server, brought our dinners serially, and served them to the wrong diner. It appeared to us as a case of severely inadequate training, unexpected in a restaurant this pricey. The dining area is nicely formal although it was disconcerting to be able to see through the wine bottle storage wall the array of TV's over the bar, all turned to game shows or sports. They diluted the sense of elegance that the dining area seemed to strive for.
Quality of food was amazing but I did not believe my scallops were worth $38.00!
My friend and I enjoyed the two sushi rolls and Japanese fish but we we're quite disappointed that sitting in the restaurant almost all the sushi choices were no longer available. Apparently you have to sit at the bar to get more sushi roll choices.
Absolutely love this place. Food was great, staff was very attentive. Would go back again.
